Back in 1989, two guys from Melbourne, Australia by the names of Darrell and Manch set off on an adventure to the other side of the world. They travelled to Africa and without air conditioning on their modified truck, they filled it with supplies, some beer, a bunch of aviator sunglasses, and...

The itinerary allowed me to experience the essence of both Bolivia and Argentina, and whetted the appetite for more!

Desi is a legend. She made sure we all had activities we were interested in and hooked us up with expertlocal guides in places like Sucre.

I enjoyed this trip, Argentina more than Bolivia. There could have been less time spent in Bolivia, La Paz you only need to spend max 2 days there not three. While the cable cars are fun to ride, you can do them in a day as well as taking in all the popular attractions. Our Intrepid Guide Desi was lovely and did her best to ensure we were all comfortable and settled throughout the trip. Sucre was a nice little town, the time here could have been extended to be able to spend Christmas here where it was warm. Potosi was a waste of time and money and could have been bypassed completely. We arrived on Christmas day, nothing was open. The only café that was open - Koala Café - The food was disgraceful and the service was terrible. The local town was also covered in rubbish and every child on the street was begging for money from every member of the tour group as they walked passed them. (I understand that there is a lot of poverty in Bolivia, however, at least 3 children were just lined up along the street while a couple of mothers sat and watched from a short distance away). Uyuni was another nice warm place to visit before the salt flats and desert journey, an extra day could have been spent here instead of Potosi. The Bolivian Salt Flats and desert was amazing. The local Bolivian guide was not so amazing. Her name was Nadia and she didn't have great people skills. She was rude to our Intrepid guide Desi and spoke rudely to the group collectively. She was bossy and didn't try to get to know anybody or even anyone's names. During our stay in the Salt hotel, I shared a room with another tour member and Desi and Nadia. During a conversation between myself, Desi and the other tour member, Nadia was lying in bed not joining in on the conversation even though she was listening in on it. When something was said that wasn't to her liking, She got very loud and somewhat angry at us, telling us all that we were wrong and then proceeded to abruptlygive us her opinion. Needless to say the rest of us were a little shocked by her outburst and attitude. She was also very dismissive to the health of tour members especially when one member was ill. She also continued to herd us around as though we were sheep barking orders at us to follow her, listen to her, get back into the car so we can leave and then take her time getting back into the car so she could speak to other tour guides that she knew. I believe the whole tour group was glad to say goodbye to her at the end. I would have liked to have spent more time in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile (Cutting time down in cold and depressing Bolivia would have easily enabled this). This town in the desert was lovely and the atmosphere was bright, bubbly and the locals were very friendly and welcoming. One afternoon/evening here definitely was not enough to be able to immerse ourselves in local life or the culture. Everyone on the tour was sad to say goodbye to this place and everyone would have loved to have spent more time here. Our new tour Intrepid guide Emilio was pretty cool and friendly. Salta, Argentina was a pretty cool place, however, getting from the bus station to the accommodation was not appropriate for a large group like ours. We all had to catch small taxis with drivers who didn't want to take us. There was a lot of difficulty moving us all to the accommodation and back to the bus station at the end of our stay. It would be way more appropriate to get us a mini van/ bus to move everyone and their luggage. Probably cheaper too. New Years eve was spent here and both Intrepid guidesEmilio and Lorenzo put on a New Years BBQ and party which was a great success. Buenos Aires was fantastic!! I will definitely return to this beautiful city one day and spend more time here.

I thought there should be more included in the tour- ie when we get to new places, I would expect the guide to give information/history of places as well as city tours. Also, I didn’t appreciate having data taken up by travel- it could’ve been done during the night, particularly because there were two intrepid groups travelling from San Pedro during the day, which could’ve easily been arranged for private overnight trip, allowing another day in San Pedro
