What people love about Latin America Tours
- Volcano Trail: Waves & Local Ways
Completely fell in love with Central America on this trip! So many hidden G Adventures gems along the way and can't recommend this enough. Our guide Marcela was fantastic and I'll definitely be going back one day
- Volcano Trail: Waves & Local Ways
This was my first solo travel adventure. My CEO, Rosemary, was amazing - friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and fun! The hotels were all simple, but clean and comfortable, and the homestay is definitely a fun experience. Transportation was generally on time (less than an hour wait once or twice). I booked this tour very last minute with G Adventures and I would absolutely book another tour through them.
- Volcano Trail: Waves & Local Ways
This was just awesome.
Most popular destinations in Latin America
The Inca Trail consistently ranks as our customers' favorite highlight in South America, taking you through cloud forests and mountain passes before reaching Machu Picchu. Peru shows its rich variety through places like the wildlife-packed Ballestas Islands and Lake Titicaca, while Bolivia offers some really unique experiences - you can watch Cholitas wrestling in La Paz and explore the old silver mines of Potosi. Over at Iguazu Falls, especially from the Argentine side, you'll see nature at full power, and our travelers love getting close to the cascades on boat rides. Most of our guests find April through October ideal for visiting, with clear skies and nice temperatures for hiking and photos. The green season from November to March brings fewer crowds at major sites and lush landscapes, though you might catch some rain.
See all South America tours toursMachu Picchu and the Sacred Valley remain Peru's most requested experiences, where our travelers connect deeply with local guides who excel at bringing Incan stories to life. You've got two fantastic routes to reach those famous ruins - the Salkantay Trek and the classic Inca Trail, each offering its own unique angle on the Andean landscape. These multi-day walks need some serious leg work but pay off with peaceful mountain passes and quiet camping spots well away from the busy tourist areas. The food really makes these treks special, particularly when guides prepare Pachamanca, cooking your meal in traditional earth ovens to keep you going through the high-altitude paths. While you can trek year-round, most of our customers find April through October gives the most reliable weather, though you might catch some incredible misty morning photos any time of year.
See all Peru tours toursCentral America hits that sweet spot where culture meets nature in the best possible way. Our travelers can't get enough of Nicaragua's smart routing that takes you from dramatic volcanic areas right into beautifully preserved colonial towns. When you hop on a bike to explore Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, you're getting three distinctly different countries at just the right pace, with local guides who know every rainforest trail and coastal path like the back of their hand. What really works is how these tours mix the must-do highlights with flexible activity options, handle the tricky border logistics and get you trying genuine local dishes along the way. It's interesting - even our shorter tours feel properly complete instead of rushed, giving you a proper taste of Central American daily life. For the most reliable exploring weather, aim for December through April during dry season, though heading out just before or after can mean fewer tourists and those occasional afternoon showers that keep everything looking fresh and green.
See all Central America tours toursThe Perito Moreno Glacier puts on quite a show, where you can watch huge chunks of ice plunge into the lake from several spots - both along the walkways and right up close by boat. Our travelers tell us October-November or March-April hit the sweet spot, with nice temperatures and fewer people around. Head north to El Chalten and the trails take you straight to Patagonia's jagged peaks. The path to Laguna de los Tres is a proper workout but worth every step, getting you right in front of Mount Fitz Roy's towering granite walls. Over in Buenos Aires, evening tango shows really capture what the city's about - the dancers tell stories through their precise moves and passion. A lot of our guests pair these shows with traditional asado at local parillas, which is exactly what the locals do.

See all Hiking & Trekking toursOur Latin American active tours really dig into what makes each place special. We've got routes combining Mexico, Belize and Guatemala where you can swim with nurse sharks at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and climb actual Mayan temples at Tikal. In South America, you'll walk Cusco's old streets before taking on those high-altitude paths to Machu Picchu. Our customers love getting hands-on with the culture - making pupusas in El Salvador, cooking with local families in Belize and also exploring deeper into each place. For wildlife fans, the Amazon Basin tours let you spot river dolphins and walk rainforest trails. Accommodation varies from jungle lodges to colonial hotels, though our travelers point out that comfort standards can differ quite a bit between locations.
See all Active toursCoach tours make covering Latin America's vast distances smooth and comfortable. The 19-day route from Peru through Bolivia and into Brazil is particularly popular - our customers like how it balances guided visits with time to explore independently. Another well-reviewed option runs through Guatemala, Belize and Mexico over two weeks, taking care of all those tricky border crossings so you can focus on the experience. We pick hotels carefully for these routes, though some spots in remote areas are fairly simple. The real advantage here is how these coach journeys handle all the complex logistics while you get to concentrate on enjoying each place fully.

Our travelers who've explored Peru consistently point to UnuRaymi as a standout choice for solo adventures - they're quick to respond and really adapt their service to each person's needs. G Adventures has built up a solid reputation with their local Chief Experience Officers who know their stuff, plus they've got the cultural elements down pat. Just keep in mind you might need to budget extra for some activities and the hotels are comfortable but basic. While Intrepid offers plenty of route options, we've heard from several customers who felt they could have handled unexpected changes better. It's worth noting that both Contiki and G Adventures got good marks in this area - their teams stepped up when plans needed adjusting. What makes these companies different comes down to how they handle the day-to-day details. UnuRaymi excels at the personal touch, especially helpful when you're trying to figure out which parts of Peru to visit and also how to get around. G Adventures balances structure with cultural experiences, though you'll want to factor in those extra activity costs. Intrepid's routes are solid but they could be more flexible when things don't go as planned. The feedback we get tends to focus on these practical aspects rather than just the destinations themselves. It's these real experiences from actual travelers that help paint the clearest picture of what you can expect from each company.

"OneSeed was beyond my expectations! All the teammates - Shelby, Chris - were very helpful and supportive from the pre-trip until the end. My favorite part of the trip was getting to know all the details and history behind Sacred Valley in Peru, and having Wilbert as our guide. His knowledge makes the difference for sure. It was so special having his presence during the tours. This expedition has changed my perspective of trips. It was my first time traveling to a such historic location, and I'll keep my mind open for that kind of trip. I'm already excited to have a new expedition with them.

Best places to start your Latin America tour
Lima tops our list as the main jumping-off point for Latin American tours, with 16 groups starting their journey there. Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro each launch 11 tours, while Antigua and also Playa del Carmen send off 10 groups apiece. Looking at our booking data, most travelers secure their spots around 87 days before departure, but you'll want to move faster for Inca Trail tours since those permits are limited and quick to disappear in peak season. Lima works really well for first-timers - you can get used to the altitude gradually, and the local food scene (especially the ceviche) gives you a proper taste of what Latin America's all about. Our guides always recommend taking at least two days to adjust to the altitude and drinking plenty of water before tackling any serious hiking.

Central American routes really deliver for budget-conscious travelers. The most popular trip runs 17 days from Nicaragua to Panama, mixing cloud forest adventures in Monteverde with hands-on cooking lessons making pupusas in El Salvador's old colonial centers. Another solid choice covers Guatemala and Honduras, where you'll discover Copán's Mayan sites and spend nights with local families near Lake Atitlán. Our travelers keep telling us how much they loved volcano boarding in Nicaragua and getting in the water with rays in Belize. You'll stay in simple but clean places, and there's plenty of free time to find your own favorite local restaurants and spots to explore. The overnight buses between stops are actually a smart way to cover ground while keeping costs down.
South American luxury tours focus on those special experiences you can't get elsewhere. There's this fantastic route starting in Santiago that takes you into the Atacama Desert, where you'll have the Tatio geysers all to yourself at sunrise. In Bolivia, you'll rest up in high-end salt hotels near Uyuni and take premium cruises on Lake Titicaca. Another refined option moves from Buenos Aires through Uruguay's historic ranches and also Brazil's coastline, staying at carefully picked boutique properties along the way. Our guests really value having private transfers, expert naturalists in the Amazon and first-class trains through Peru's Sacred Valley. You get nice touches too - sipping champagne by Iguazu Falls and entering Machu Picchu before the daily crowds show up.
