- Classic Inca Trail Trek 4D/3N to Machu Picchu (Group service )
Originally booked to do the 4D 3N Inca trail to Machu Picchu, the Alpaca Expeditions team was able to adjust our trek to the Salkantay trek due to the closed portions from the mud slides. Although the Salkantay Trek was slightly harder than our original trek, Ronald and Carlos were patient, helpful, and energetic through the entire experience. They Alpaca team really thought of everything! The food, staff, camp, portable toilet, ponchos, and the people helped make this an unforgettable experience. There is not a challenge that this amazing staff cannot handle. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

This tour was amazing! I have done other tours in the past and this one is at the top of the list!
- 7 Day Cusco Travel Package: Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Humantay Lake, and Rainbow Mountain.
The tour was really great. Edy was great at communicating times for pickup and ensuring we were all ok. Carlos and Mehaw were amazing guides and their drivers. Our final day we went to Lake Humantay, a huge day. Don't know who our guide was as he never told us his name or the driver. In a group of 13 my friend and I were the only english speaking people so communication was really lacking. The guide would explain the walk and what to do in Spainish and then very briefly explain it in english to my friend and I. As you know it is a hard walk up to the Lake and I almost turned around before I got there, but the guide was just worried we were late, I didn't get any supportive words of encouragement or any help. After finally making it off the mountain the drive back to Cusco the guide didn't really speak to any of us. The drop off point was a Plaza about 1km from our accomodation, it was raining, cold and dark. Nobody said anything we just had to get off the bus and walk. So it was a shame the tour ended on a sour note, because our accomodation was great, the other tour guides were topnotch and felt really safe and secure. Would recommend this company again, just not the day hike tours.

Travel Machu Picchu your way
You've got three solid walking routes to reach Machu Picchu. The Classic Inca Trail takes 4 days with nights spent camping while professional chefs cook up proper restaurant-quality meals right there on the trail. Our clients love how the porters move quickly ahead to get the camps ready before groups arrive. If you're up for something more challenging, the Salkantay Trek runs 7 days through quite diverse landscapes - you'll go from glacier peaks down into cloud forests. The Quarry Trail has become really popular with people who want to avoid crowds; our hikers typically see just 3-4 other trekkers during their whole journey, which is quite different from the busier Inca Trail. All paths lead to Machu Picchu, but the timing varies - Inca Trail groups get there at sunrise through the Sun Gate, while Quarry Trail folks catch an early bus up from Aguas Calientes.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursOur active tours mix hiking with cultural visits and Amazon experiences over multiple days. The 8-day trip is particularly good - you'll trek to Machu Picchu and then head deep into the jungle by motorized canoe where expert guides help spot macaws, monkeys and also nighttime wildlife. Another solid choice is the 7-day Cusco region tour that combines a hike up to Rainbow Mountain at 5,020m with visits to Sacred Valley communities. The guides on these mixed trips really shine when sharing their deep knowledge of Andean culture and philosophy. You'll stay in both hotels and tented camps, with porters carrying the heavy stuff so you can focus on each day's experiences.
See all Active toursExplore a wide diversity of coach / bus tours through Machu Picchu. We have 8 adventures that vary from 6 days to 18 days. With the greatest number of departures in August, this is also the most popular time of the year.
See all Coach / Bus toursOur most popular Peru tours blend Cusco's history with Machu Picchu and some remarkable natural sites. The 7-day package starts in Cusco where you'll explore the Cathedral and Qoricancha temple, then moves to the Sacred Valley to discover Sacsayhuaman fortress and the ancient ruins at Pisac. Our travelers often mention how their guides make Inca history come alive while handling all the practical details. The trip includes day hikes to Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain - they're quite demanding but our customers say the views are worth every step. Many choose this complete package since it gives enough time to adjust to the altitude while seeing multiple key sites.

"An extremely well organised tour. Our guide Monica was an amazing guide. Monica went out of her way to make the trip safe, enjoyable and comfortable. Our chef Vidal made an amazing variety and quality of meals each day. Our chief porter Juan did a great job organising the porters. Katy in the office was good to deal with in the lead up to the hike. I highly recommend the 4 day Inka trail hike. We had 14 porters carrying 20kg each for the 6 paid customers and the attention to detail was awesome. The Inka ruins we saw along the way and MachuPicchu was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Best places to start your Machu Picchu tour
Cusco naturally serves as the main gateway to Machu Picchu, with 61 of our tours kicking off from this former Incan capital. Another 36 tours start from Lima, giving you flexibility in planning. Our booking patterns show most people lock in their trips about 4 months ahead - that's 127 days to be exact. This becomes especially important during June, July and also August when spots fill up fast. The sweet spot for visiting tends to be April-May or September-October, when you'll get nice weather and fewer tourists sharing the paths. Taking two days at the site works really well - one with a guide to get the full historical picture and another to explore on your own or tackle Huayna Picchu. Late afternoon often gives you the best light for photos, plus the site feels more peaceful as day visitors start heading out. For dealing with the altitude, spending 2-3 days in Cusco beforehand helps your body adjust and lets you properly take in this remarkable UNESCO site.
Discover Machu Picchu tours for every budget
If you're watching your budget in Peru, we've got some really solid tour options. The Trek & Climb Nevado Mariposa packs serious high-altitude experiences into 4 days - you'll learn proper mountaineering skills while pushing up to 5,870m. Our climbers tell us they love how it mixes technical challenges with local culture, starting in mountain villages before heading to the glaciers. Another great value choice combines Rainbow Mountain with Ausangate across 3 days; our hikers particularly enjoy reaching the viewpoint early, beating the crowds and getting extra time at the equally impressive Red Valley. For those short on time, the basic Machu Picchu by Train fits guided ruins exploration and Sacred Valley market visits into just 3 efficient days.
Our premium Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu combinations consistently impress luxury-seeking travelers. The 6-day deluxe package includes private transport throughout, with carefully selected upscale stays in Urubamba and Aguas Calientes. Our guests often mention how much they appreciate the expert guides who make Inca history come alive at places like Moray's agricultural terraces and also Maras' salt ponds. Another favorite spans 9 days from Lima to Cusco, featuring private museum access, excellent dining and authentic cultural encounters. What makes these tours special is the careful attention - from airport pickup to premium train rides through the Andes.

- Summer 2025
Summer's dry weather makes for reliable touring, though you'll want to book at least 4 months ahead during peak season. Our most requested tour runs 7 days from Lima to Cusco, mixing coastal desert activities with mountain culture. People particularly enjoy sandboarding at Huacachina oasis and tasting wines in Ica before heading to higher ground. The Quarry Trail becomes a smart alternative in summer - you get views similar to the Inca Trail but meet only 2-3 other groups over three days. For photographers, we time some Machu Picchu visits for late afternoon when summer's clear skies and lighting create perfect conditions.

Many autumn departures line up with local harvest festivals, so you'll experience genuine Andean celebrations along the way. Their guide Charly knows every detail of the route, and our travelers consistently mention how well-organized everything is - from the quality meals to the experienced porters who handle all the logistics. - Winter 2025 / 2026
Machu Picchu in winter offers a different side of Peru - you'll find fewer people around and the rains bring out vivid green landscapes. Our 7-day tours work really well, connecting Lima's colonial sites with Cusco's Inca buildings. Most people start at the Ballestas Islands to watch sea lions and penguins before heading up into the mountains. We give travelers a full day in Cusco to adjust to the altitude while exploring places like San Francisco's catacombs and Santo Domingo convent. The 4-day Classic Inca Trail stays popular even in the wet season - our customers often mention how impressed they are watching the porters handle slippery conditions while still cooking great meals. If you prefer an easier pace, several tours take the scenic train through the Sacred Valley with extra stops at the fascinating Maras salt ponds and Moray terraces.
