Travel Southern Vietnam your way
Southern Vietnam really delivers for active travelers who want to mix physical activities with genuine cultural experiences. Our most popular routes run 10-15 days, taking you on quite a journey from Ho Chi Minh City through the Mekong Delta and up north to Hanoi. You'll find yourself cycling along quiet paths between Hoi An's rice paddies, learning to paddle traditional basket boats in water coconut forests and exploring the fascinating network of Cu Chi Tunnels. Many guests particularly enjoy hopping on motorcycles to tour the Hue countryside, visiting both the Forbidden Purple City and also ancient royal tombs. There's something special about taking the overnight train from Hue to Hanoi, while kayaking in Halong Bay lets you discover hidden caves and floating villages at your own pace. Our local guides consistently get great feedback for knowing their history inside out and adapting activities to match different fitness levels.
See all Active toursLooking to explore Vietnam by bike? The options run from easy 4-day Mekong routes to full 12-day journeys mixing cycling with other transport. The Mekong Delta rides work well for casual cyclists - you'll pedal past fruit orchards on quiet roads, hop local ferries across canals and drop by village workshops. For more experienced riders, the Hai Van Pass between Hue and Hoi An offers ocean views that make every uphill stretch count. Our travelers tell us the real magic happens in the villages, where chance meetings with local families and school children become trip highlights. A support vehicle follows along, so you can ride as much as you want, and the guides know all the best spots for a cool drink break under the shade of a banyan tree.

See all Coach / Bus toursVietnam really opens up when you take time to explore it properly. The best tours run 10-15 days, starting in Ho Chi Minh City and working north through the Mekong Delta's waterways up to Hanoi. What our customers love is how these trips mix famous sites with genuine local moments - you'll go from the Cu Chi war tunnels one day to making coconut candy in a village workshop the next. The overnight Halong Bay cruise lets you kayak into limestone caves and find quiet coves for swimming. Our travelers often mention their guides as the highlight, saying how personal stories brought everything to life, from war history to daily life in modern Vietnam.

Three tour operators consistently stand out when our travelers book Vietnam trips. Vietnam Tour Fun gets mentioned a lot by solo travelers - they provide extra support that really matters when you're exploring on your own. Their guides know how to balance giving you space while making sure everything runs smoothly. Legend Travel Group and Hoi An Express have built solid reputations too. Our customers particularly appreciate how quickly they handle any bumps in the road - whether it's tweaking an itinerary or sorting out unexpected issues. While a few travelers noted some minor problems with hotels or transfers, they emphasized that the operators resolved things promptly and professionally. What makes these companies work well is their attention to detail. The guides are genuinely knowledgeable about local culture, history and also cuisine. They structure their tours thoughtfully, so you get a proper mix of must-see spots and local experiences without feeling rushed. This practical, organized approach, combined with responsive service, seems to be why our travelers keep choosing them for Vietnam trips.

"A fantastic two-week tour of Vietnam (covering Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh) and finishing in Siem Reap, Cambodia, involving two internal flights and all manner of day trips and excursions. (The old town of Hoi An, exploring the Cu Chi tunnels, paddling on the Mekong River, and discovering Cambodia were the highlights for me). The whole tour was extremely well planned and slickly executed - pickups were almost invariably on time, transport comfortable and air-conditioned, restaurants and food excellent, and tour guides overwhelmingly knowledgeable and very personable. On the one occasion a bus trip didn't happen as scheduled, the office staff moved into action quickly and a good solution was found. Special mention to Sophia, in the Hoi An office, who without over-communicating kept us fully in the picture as to what to expect and what to prepare each day. I really felt well provided for and the entire experience was great value for money. I can recommend Hoi An Express without hesitation.

Demographics
Our 10-day Vietnam routes work really well for solo travelers who want organized logistics but plenty of independence. The overnight trains from Hanoi to Hue turn out to be great social spots - our guests often tell us they've made friends for the rest of their journey there. Starting in Hanoi makes sense for most people; you'll dive into the Old Quarter's food scene before heading to Halong Bay where we can easily arrange single cabins. The mix feels right with group cooking classes in Hoi An balanced by free time to explore the lantern-lit streets or visit local tailors.
Couples often pick our 12-14 day Vietnam and Cambodia combinations for good reason. You get private balcony views over Halong Bay at sunrise and lovely dinners in colonial mansions. Many couples have told us how much they enjoyed cycling together through Hoi An's countryside and learning traditional recipes at organic farms. We include nice touches like floating lanterns on the Thu Bon River and photo tours through Angkor's temples with expert guides. The pace works well - you'll have guided experiences but also plenty of private time to wander markets, relax on beaches and find quiet cafes together.
Our 7-10 day active routes really appeal to young adults looking to pack in lots of experiences. You might start with food tours in Hanoi's Old Quarter, then head for kayaking and cave exploration in Halong Bay. The tours often include countryside motorbike rides through Hue and cooking classes in local homes. Days fill up with Cu Chi Tunnel visits and Mekong Delta trips, while evenings are free to check out bars and music spots in Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City. It's a quick pace but there's still room to go with the flow when you want to.
Older travelers appreciate our thoughtfully paced 10-14 day journeys that take time to settle into each place. Our local guides get great feedback for bringing Vietnam's history to life at spots like the Temple of Literature and Cu Chi Tunnels. Instead of long bus rides, you'll enjoy comfortable Mekong Delta river cruises and evening cyclo rides through Hanoi's Old Quarter. The flexibility works well - join morning market visits and cooking classes if you like, or take quiet afternoons to relax and explore on your own terms.
Families exploring Southern Vietnam get real value from our longer 10-14 day routes. Parents tell us they love how the tours mix guided visits with free afternoons - you'll learn to make white rose dumplings in Hanoi, then have time to relax at Cua Dai Beach. Kids get excited about the Mekong Delta where they can watch coconut candy being made and feed honey to bees at local farms. The basket boat rides are always a hit, and the Temple of Literature visits work well with curious young minds. Many families say the Halong Bay overnight cruises are their trip highlights, with chances to kayak, swim and spot monkeys in the limestone caves.
