- 8 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing - Lemosho Route
8 of us ladies went on the 8 days Mount Kilimanjaro climb via Lemosho route with guides Isaac and Arnold. Isaac’s team was INCREDIBLE! All of the porters, guides, and cooks were so accommodating, they went above and beyond what would be expected for service! Every morning and evening we were brought warm water to wash up with before breakfast and dinner. That is such a treat when camping, let alone climbing a giant, cold mountain! The team would sing songs to keep our spirits up, and even have dancing parties when we got to camp! They were very considerate when it came to our dietary restrictions, and provided us with more than enough delicious food every day! The summit night is very tough, leaving at midnight to summit at 6 am. It is cold, dark, and windy. Isaac brought 4 extra team members with us to make sure we had a successful summit. They continuously sang, gave us water, warmed our hands up with their hands, and even walked arm in arm with us when we were so tired that it was difficult to keep going! They were all so genuine and lovely, we felt as if they were friends or family rather than a company. Isaac is so knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging! He is a wonderful person, and Steppe Dogs Adventures is very lucky to have him as a leader! Steppe Dogs Adventures as a company was very easy to communicate with. They were timely when it came to responding to emails, and helpful with transportation from Nairobi, (which is a little difficult to figure out if you are in a different county). They took our feedback to heart, and even helped us with transportation days after our trek as well. Frank and Daines in the main office were available on their phones at all times when we needed them, and made us feel safe and appreciative about every aspect of our trip. Thank you Steppe Dogs Adventures, that was an experience of a life time and we will definitely be back!
- 10 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing - Lemosho Route
My girl friend and I did the 10 day Mount Kilimanjaro trek via Lemosho route. The guides were amazing and supported us very well. All the meals were huge with lots of fruit and vegetables. Our chef was great and made sure we had coffee in the tent each morning, lots of food to eat, snacks and tea at the end of the day and helped with out packs when we came in. The route is challenging but through the great crew we had then we made it to the top of the Mount Kilimanjaro. Uhuru peak never forget haha :)

Amazing Experience I did the 8 days Lemosho route with Pace Maker Adventures (8 days of actual hiking) and couldn't have been more pleased with an experience. My guide Abubakar was very knowledgeable and helpful. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking to climb Kilimanjaro Allan
Travel Lemosho Route your way
For those seeking the Lemosho experience, we've seen incredible success with several distinct tour variations ranging from 8-10 days. The longer 10-day trek gives you extra time to take in the mountain's changing environments, with our travelers particularly loving the peaceful walk through ancient forests to Mti Mkubwa camp on day one. The 8-day version has become increasingly popular among our more experienced hikers, striking an ideal balance between acclimatization and maintaining momentum. Both options feature the same exceptional route across Shira Plateau and up the dramatic Barranco Wall. What really sets these tours apart is the support crew - our clients regularly tell us about their amazingly attentive guides like Justice, Godfrey and Emanuel who've gained quite a reputation on the mountain. They're masters at reading both the conditions and their clients, knowing exactly when to push and when to ease back. The porters work magic too, somehow managing to serve up hot meals at 4,000 meters that our climbers say rival restaurant quality - everything from fresh fruit to hot soups and even pizza at Karanga Camp. The morning health checks have proven invaluable, with guides monitoring oxygen levels and providing honest feedback about everyone's readiness for summit day. Our travelers especially value the flexible approach to the final ascent - guides will adjust the pace and schedule based on weather patterns and group energy levels, sometimes opting for an earlier start to catch better conditions. This personalized attention has helped achieve remarkably high summit success rates, with over 90% of our groups reaching Uhuru Peak.

Best tour companies for Lemosho Route tours
The Lemosho Route stands out as a smart pick for climbing Kilimanjaro - our travelers consistently mention how the gradual climb helps their bodies adjust to the altitude. It's particularly well-suited if you're looking to balance good summit chances with really nice mountain views along the way. We've had excellent feedback about several guide companies, particularly Almighty Kilimanjaro, Migration Venture Africa and also Steppe Dogs Adventure. What makes these operators special is how their guides handle the practical challenges - they'll often grab your bag when you're tired, know exactly when to push or when to slow down and keep the whole group's spirits up during tough stretches. The camping setup is actually quite comfortable, and you'll be surprised by how good the food is up there on the mountain. Our customers regularly tell us about meals they didn't expect possible at high altitude. The whole crew - from guides to porters and cooks - works together to create this supportive atmosphere that makes a big difference when you're dealing with long days of hiking and the altitude challenges. It's honestly what transforms a physically demanding climb into something you'll look back on as a genuine achievement.

Group
66 tours in Lemosho RouteThe Lemosho route really comes alive when you're climbing with a group, and G Adventures has gotten this format down to an art. Their 8-10 day trips bring together people who start as strangers but end up sharing something special. Our clients often tell us how summit night created bonds that stuck - there's nothing quite like pushing through those final hours together. The mess tent becomes this warm social hub where everyone swaps stories over hot meals. You might find yourself climbing next to people from Australia, Canada, Germany and also Japan, all watching out for each other as you head up the mountain. Those daily health checks and afternoon practice hikes seem to spark friendships that last well beyond Tanzania.
Small Group
36 tours in Lemosho RouteLemosho route climbs work beautifully with 8-12 people - it's enough to create that group energy but small enough for guides to really look after everyone. The narrow trails and camp logistics just flow better with these numbers. Our climbers like having companions to chat with during breaks but appreciate how the whole group can stick together through the trickier sections. These smaller teams zip through the entry formalities at Londorossi Gate and can easily adjust their pace when needed. It makes a real difference during summit night too, when everyone naturally finds their own rhythm.

Top Lemosho Route travel itineraries to fit your plans
The 7-day Lemosho route has really caught on with our clients who want a solid Kilimanjaro climb without taking too much time off work. You get all the important bits of the route packed into a week, with enough time to adjust to the altitude safely. Our travelers keep telling us how impressed they are with the whole support crew - the guides check on everyone's health regularly and somehow the camp team manages to cook up proper hot meals even at 4,000 meters which is pretty remarkable. The path takes you through some fascinating changes, starting in thick rainforest near Mti Mkubwa Camp, across the wide-open Shira Plateau and then up the challenging Great Barranco Wall. A lot of our successful groups mention that having multiple guides made a real difference, especially on summit night where some teams even provide personal porters to carry your daypack up to Uhuru Peak.
The 10-day version of our Lemosho climb gives you the best shot at reaching the top. The extra days really make a difference, especially around Shira Plateau and Karanga Valley where you can properly adjust to the altitude. Our clients find the afternoon walks up to Kosovo Camp particularly helpful for getting ready for the big summit push. They love waking up to coffee brought right to their tent and it's quite something how the crew keeps serving proper meals even at extreme heights. Having those extra days also means we can be flexible if the weather isn't playing nice, which is why our summit success rates stay consistently high.
Demographics
If you're climbing Kilimanjaro solo, our 8-day Lemosho tours give you the best of both worlds - you'll join a friendly group of 4-20 people but still get personal guide support when you need it most. Our solo travelers, especially women, often tell us how safe and looked after they feel with our professional crews. You'll start connecting with your group during the pre-climb briefings and the mess tent becomes this great social space where everyone bonds over meals. What really makes a difference is having your own guide for summit night - that one-on-one support really helps when you're making the final push to the top.
The Lemosho route works beautifully for couples, with 8-10 day trips that balance group climbing and private time together. We assign dedicated guides so pairs can walk at their own pace while still being part of the larger expedition. Our couples love their private tent setup and the little extras our crews provide - like morning coffee delivered to your tent and rest stops set up in spots with incredible mountain views. The longer routes include rest days that let you really enjoy places like Shira Plateau and Karanga Valley together. You'll get plenty of time as a couple during breaks and evenings while still enjoying the social aspects of group climbing.
Our younger climbers love the energy of 7-8 day Lemosho expeditions where groups of 8-16 people quickly become friends through shared challenges. The guides are great at reading the group - they'll pick up the pace when everyone's feeling strong and add extra hikes for those wanting more. Camp life gets really social with everyone swapping stories over dinner, and summit night creates this amazing team spirit as climbers encourage each other all the way up. We include things that really appeal to younger travelers like photo tips for that perfect sunrise shot at Uhuru Peak and chances to learn Tanzanian culture from the guides who grew up here.
Our older climbers do particularly well on 8-10 day Lemosho tours where we've fine-tuned everything for their needs. The itineraries include strategic rest stops and our experienced guides know exactly how to support senior climbers - we even helped an 80-year-old cancer survivor reach Uhuru Peak with specially adapted support. The crews go above and beyond with comfort touches like bringing warm washing water twice daily. We keep to a steady "pole pole" (slowly slowly) pace and the guides do extra health checks, monitoring oxygen and vital signs morning and evening. Having private tents and quality sleeping gear makes a big difference too - proper rest between hiking days is crucial for older climbers.
Our family groups have great experiences on the Lemosho route, with tours running 8-9 days that really work well for mixed ages. We send out big support teams - up to 31 porters for 4-9 climbers - which means everyone gets the attention they need. The guides check everyone's health twice a day and adjust the walking speed so parents and kids can stay together comfortably. The food is a real highlight; our mountain chefs cook hot meals at each camp and they know exactly what younger climbers like - think fresh pizza and chips right there on the mountain. We use top-quality camping gear with roomy tents so families can rest properly between hikes. The crews are wonderful with families; they get everyone involved with songs, share stories about Tanzania and sometimes even manage to get birthday cakes up the mountain for surprise celebrations.

Spring trekking on Lemosho is fantastic, especially from March through May when you'll see fewer other groups on the mountain. You'll appreciate coming into camp to find hot meals ready after a long day of hiking, with our dedicated porter teams handling all the heavy equipment. The guides really shine during spring - they read weather patterns expertly and know precisely when to push forward or hold back at camp.

Summer has become peak season on Lemosho, with our 7-10 day routes booking up months ahead from June through August. We build flexibility into the schedule around the Lava Tower section, so groups can time this key acclimatization point just right. The guides maintain that essential "pole pole" (slow) pace which helps nearly everyone make it to the top. You'll get detailed briefings about summer climbing conditions and extra support for summit night when it still gets quite cold. - Winter 2025 / 2026
The winter months from December through February bring excellent climbing conditions on Lemosho. You'll find clear views above the cloud line and solid trail conditions that make the trek more predictable. Our top winter routes take 8-10 days with an extra night at Shira 2 Camp (3,900m) - that extra time really helps your body adjust before the tough sections ahead. The guides know exactly how to handle winter conditions and keep a close eye on everyone's progress with medical checks twice daily. We provide proper winter camping gear including thermal sleeping bags and tough mountain tents that hold up well in cold conditions. What Makes the Lemosho Route So Special?
You know what's really amazing about Lemosho? It's got this incredible 90% success rate for reaching the summit which is pretty much unbeatable on Kilimanjaro. The route takes you through six different zones starting in this beautiful rainforest at Londorossi Gate around 2200m where you'll spot colobus monkeys swinging overhead. What's really special is how you get to cross the Shira Plateau at 3500m with these stunning views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru that you just don't get anywhere else. The first couple days are super quiet too since you're on the western side away from the busier routes.
How Long Does it Take and What Affects Your Timing?
Most people do Lemosho in 7 or 8 days though you can stretch it from 6 to 9 depending on what works for you. If you're looking for the best shot at reaching the top go for the 8-day option which gives you an extra day to adjust at Shira 2 Camp at about 3850m. This is especially important if you're coming from sea level or you're over 50. You're looking at about 70km total hiking with most days being 4-8 hours except summit day that's a big one at 12-15 hours.
What Should You Expect to Pay and What's Included?
Prices really vary on Lemosho running from 48 up to 50 depending on what kind of experience you're after. A solid mid-range package around 00-3500 covers pretty much everything you need airport pickup hotel stays in Moshi those daily park fees at 5 all your camping gear good guides at a 1:2 ratio plenty of porters and three hot meals every day plus oxygen just in case. If you want to go premium you'll get private toilets better gear medical monitoring and extra acclimatization days. Budget options still work fine they just combine groups and keep the gear basic but reliable.
Should You Go With a Local or International Company?
Local Tanzanian companies based right there in Moshi or Arusha usually charge between 00-3000 and they've got great relationships with experienced Lemosho guides. You get this authentic experience and they're usually more flexible with bookings plus your money goes straight into the local community. International operators charge more like 00-6000 but you're getting extra booking protection really structured safety systems and guides who speak multiple languages. The key is finding someone with an 85%+ success rate on Lemosho KPAP certification and lots of experience managing high-altitude climbs above 4000m.
