What people love about East Coast USA Tours
- Niagara Falls, Washington DC, Philadelphia & Amish Country 4D/3N (from New York)
Great tour. Good guides. Decent transport. Had a wonderful time. Wish we had spent more time in New York!
- Great Eastern Cities
It was great. We has a lovely time. The tour director, Esther, was very experienced and knowledgeable. The driver, Mark, was very kind. The places covered was more than adequate and we saw/experienced a lot more than we expected
- Georgia History Trail to Nashville
This Intrepid tour was exceptional, in terms of presenting us with a pretty full picture of life in the modern South, as well as its past history. Our only complaint was that Nashville didn't really fit. Although we enjoyed seeing it, we did not enjoy two long days driving, less time in Charleston, and practically zero time in Asheville just to get there. This tour would be so much more cohesive if it started or ended in New Orleans, which fits much better in terms of colonial history. Intrepid's commitment to sustainability and eco-responsible travel was much appreciated, as was it's sensitivity to the full history--not just the romanticized history--of the American south. Definitely would recommend this tour.

Our White Mountains and Great Smokies treks put you right in the heart of Appalachian wilderness. Up north, the Presidential Peaks route follows well-maintained Appalachian Trail sections where you'll sleep in mountain huts above the treeline - the views are simply exceptional from up there. Mount Washington's notorious weather patterns add a real element of raw nature to your experience. Down in the Smokies, we combine paddling and hiking with nights camping along Eagle Creek. Our guide John gets fantastic feedback from travelers for his mix of safety knowledge, local insights and even his cooking. The Lost Cove Trail gives you 2,260 feet of elevation gain through rich forest landscapes before reaching the old Shuckstack fire tower.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursExplore a wide diversity of coach / bus tours through East Coast USA. We have 40 adventures that vary from 3 days to 14 days. With the greatest number of departures in September, this is also the most popular time of the year.
See all Coach / Bus toursThe East Coast really opens up on our multi-state tours, with two routes that consistently get great feedback. There's a quick-but-thorough 4-day trip covering four states where you'll get right up to Niagara Falls, walk through the amazing rock formations at Watkins Glen State Park and explore Philadelphia's historic core. Our guide Bruno gets lots of mentions from travelers for making historical stories come alive without overwhelming anyone. If you've got more time, the 8-day DC to NYC route lets you properly experience each stop - you'll spend quality time at places like the National Museum of African American History and see traditional Amish life up close. This longer option includes special spots like Mount Vernon Estate and gives you proper time to explore rather than just ticking boxes.

Looking at the East Coast tour options, Bamba Experience stands out with their Niagara Falls, Washington DC, Philadelphia and Amish Country package. Our travelers consistently mention how well-organized everything is, from the transport to the daily scheduling. The guides know their stuff too, though it's worth noting some tours mix different language groups which can slow things down a bit. If you're interested in a more intimate experience, Empire Tours has been getting great feedback - especially guide Bruno who manages to make history both interesting and funny according to recent travelers. He's particularly good at mixing in the right amount of humor while keeping the facts straight. For something a bit different, Intrepid's Georgia History Trail to Nashville tour digs deep into the region's past. They're serious about sustainable travel and our customers appreciate that environmental focus. Just keep in mind that adding Nashville makes for some longer travel days since it's quite a distance from the other stops. Globus rounds out the reliable options - they've got the logistics down to a science. Their tours handle all the small details like hotel check-ins, luggage transfers and entrance tickets so you can focus on enjoying the places you're visiting instead of managing the practical stuff.

"This is a good tour if you want to learn about different parts of southern American history. Some days you’re always going to be on the move and some days you’ll only spend half the day on a tour. It’s a good trip. Also if you want to check out different cities down south where you might want to visit again or perhaps move to one day.

"The overall organization prior to the beginning of the tour was great and sufficient. Very friendly and helpful guides! They knew the best photo spots and provided some general background information. I would have liked a bit more facts about the places we visited and additional information such as historic dates and fun facts and so on though. The bus and driver were great as well. Unfortunately, some locations were closed due to public holidays and the upcoming presidential inauguration in Washington D.C. The guides provided good alternatives but it would have been nice to know in advance, that the itinerary needs to be slightly changed. The stops in Washington from were a bit rushed and a lot of walking was involved, which might not be suitable for children and elderly people. We went to the Canadian side for the Niagara Falls. This was not specifically mentioned on the itinerary. Even upon asking beforehand whether we will be leaving the US, it was said that we will not go to the Canadian side. This should have been clearly stated on the itinerary. For return trips to New York, a lot of time was spent on the bus (up to 4 hours). It would have been nice to know this in advance to better prepare. Overall great experience - I would recommend the tour in general.

"I would like to share my experience for the future travellers to be aware of the challenges they might face when travelling to the USA. I have booked my trip on January for myself and my friend and we have encountered several problems: -1 - VISA to the US.Please be aware that you might need a Visa, an ESTA would not suffice. In this case try to fill in the application asap as the waiting times for an interview date is over three months. We could not secure an interview date before our original tour departure date (April) hence we had to reschedule our tour date to September which costed us £200/person. My friend had an interview date just 10 days before the departure date, thought this would be very very stressful and wanted to cancel the tour altogether in time (within 60 days before the departure date) and we've been told that in this case there will be no refund at all, she will lose all her payment (due to the previous rescheduling). She's had her Visa/Passport just in the very last minute so she could join the tour but the late purchase of the flight ticket costed her double. -2-no transfer available from the airport to the hotel, you have to book your own transfer -3-to our shock on the very first day in NY our tour guide informed us that due to crossing the border to Canada (Niagara Falls) we might encounter problems with our Visa. As we had 10 year Visa to the US we did not have any problems finally, but this had been an unnecessary/avoidable stress and this issue (Canada Visa problems) had been nowhere specified by the travel agent beforehand. -4- this was supposed to be an English speaking tour, but because the majority of the group were Germans, turned out to be a German speaking one. Our tour guide really tried to translate everything, but we've still missed out a lot, not to mention losing lots of precious time. -5-the tour turned out to be a basic one: done only what was absolutely necessary, nothing more. The optionals in NY weren't mentioned and the others had gone ahead only if weather permitting or fulfilled the minimum of 10 travellers criteria. -6- we had only one(!) proper breakfast included (in Williamsport) in seven days + two breakfast vouchers (valid for a bagel/muffin + hot drink) in Washington DC and no dinner at all (original plan included a group dinner?) On the other hand we had several breaks during the long travels between destinations, the scenery and the cities spectacular, the hotels are very good and the tour guide had been knowledgeable and helpful.

Best places to start your East Coast USA tour
You've got solid choices for where to start your East Coast journey - New York City and Boston each run 23 departures, while Washington DC offers 12 starting points throughout the year. We're seeing folks book around 3.5 months (110 days) ahead, especially for the popular multi-city routes hitting Niagara Falls and Washington DC. Charleston and Asheville work well as alternative kickoff spots with 6 departures each, giving you a fresh take on the region. Our customers love how they can mix up their days between city attractions and natural spaces - maybe catch a Broadway show one day, then walk coastal paths the next. The East Coast works year-round really - from wandering the free Smithsonian museums to exploring Cape Cod's beaches, each season brings something different to the table.

Portland serves as your starting point, then you'll ride quiet roads to Marshall Point lighthouse and Port Clyde's working waterfront. The route takes in Rockland's art galleries and museums and also Camden's picture-perfect harbor. Over in Acadia National Park, another private tour lets you cycle the car-free carriage roads at your own speed. We've mapped out e-bike friendly alternatives around the Schoodic Peninsula, and strong riders can tackle Cadillac Mountain if they're up for it. Our travelers often tell us how much they value being able to adjust their daily mileage based on how they're feeling.

The East Coast has some really solid 3-day tours worth checking out. The DC to New York route pulls in history fans with Georgetown's lively nightlife and a nice Potomac River cruise - though you'll need to plan around the October to March boat closure. If you're into nature, the Smoky Mountains tours take you along 8-mile stretches of the Appalachian Trail where you can find spots like Grotto Falls - pretty cool how the trail actually goes behind the waterfall. Our guests love staying in quiet mountain lodges and often spot black bears and elk while exploring Cades Cove. Down south near Savannah, the horse-drawn carriages through Beaufort add that classic Southern touch.
Don't miss out on visiting:
New York City, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Lancaster
Week-long tours between Boston and DC give you proper time to really get to know each stop. Food lovers start in Boston's North End with Italian bakeries and work their way to New York's Lower East Side for authentic Jewish food spots. Maine's coastal routes are perfect for cycling - you'll pedal Acadia's carriage roads and hop ferries to nearby islands. Heading south, Charleston and Savannah blend history with great food scenes - our customers keep talking about the carriage rides and especially Jesse Blanco's local food tours. The Hudson Valley route mixes culture and nature, from Norman Rockwell's museum to evening cruises past old Victorian homes.
Don't miss out on visiting:
Charleston, Savannah, Jekyll Island, Jacksonville
See all toursTen days really lets you sink into New England's rhythm, particularly during fall color season. These routes weave together Boston's Freedom Trail and Plymouth's colonial sites with relaxed stays in mountain lodges and seaside towns. The Florida routes offer something totally different - starting in Miami, heading down to spot dolphins in the Keys and then curving up through Naples and St. Petersburg with its white sand beaches. Our travelers really like having two nights in key spots like Cape Cod's villages and Newport's mansions - it gives them time to explore properly.

If you're traveling solo, our city-focused shorter tours work really well. The 4-day New York Uncovered gives you that sweet spot of planned activities and free time - you'll get your bearings with walks through Soho and over the Brooklyn Bridge, then have room to bike Central Park or join LGBTQ+ history tours at your own pace. Our guide Jon knows how to make everyone feel part of the group while giving space for personal interests. Another good pick combines Niagara Falls and Washington DC in 4 days, where guides Bruno and Irene weave historical facts into engaging stories that keep solo travelers connected throughout.
Our Cape Cod and Islands tour hits just the right notes for couples wanting quality time together. You'll start with a laid-back Boston harbor cruise before exploring Nantucket's historic wharves and also Martha's Vineyard's sandy beaches. What makes it work for couples is how it mixes guided parts with downtime - join a whale watching trip or wander the waterfront yourselves. The hotels are picked with couples in mind, like Newport's Viking Hotel, though yes, some bathrooms run small. Tour guides Hillary and Joanne really nail that blend of romance and interesting commentary our travelers love.
Our NYC tours really click with young adults by mixing the must-sees with local culture. The 4-day New York Uncovered gets it right - you'll do Liberty Island and Times Square but also cycle through Central Park and check out Brooklyn's cool DUMBO area. That evening yacht cruise for Manhattan sunsets? Young adults love it. There's also our NYC-Washington combo that adds variety - you get Georgetown's night scene plus time in Chelsea Market and on the High Line. It's ideal if you want your sightseeing with a proper dose of current city life.
Our history-focused routes consistently draw senior travelers, especially covering Civil War sites and colonial spots. The Georgia History Trail moves at a comfortable pace through Atlanta's History Center, Savannah's Bonaventure Cemetery and also Charleston's historic quarter. Our travelers mention how guide Claire Kredens handles the longer drives well, though some wish for fewer stops to cut drive times. The Washington DC-Gettysburg route is another favorite, featuring the monuments and battlefield sites plus nice touches like dinner at the historic Dobbin House. The cultural bits really resonate - meeting Amish families and exploring African American history in specialized museums.

- Spring 2025
Spring brings D.C.'s famous cherry blossoms, and our travelers time their visits perfectly to see the Jefferson Memorial framed in pink. The routes through Virginia and Pennsylvania show off awakening gardens at Mount Vernon, Monticello and also other historic estates. Gettysburg tours feel different in spring's mild weather - our guides share battle stories while you walk the fields without summer's heat. Over in Colonial Williamsburg, costumed interpreters bring history outside with garden talks and craft demonstrations. What works well in spring is mixing outdoor monuments with indoor museums, so our customers can duck inside when those April showers appear.

Winter transforms the East Coast experience, especially up at Niagara Falls where the Cave of the Winds shows off dramatic ice formations. D.C.'s free Smithsonian museums become perfect warm refuges filled with culture and history. The winter route adapts nicely through the Finger Lakes - instead of summer's Watkins Glen State Park, you'll discover the quieter beauty of Montour Falls. Moving south to Philadelphia, you can take your time exploring Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell away from the crowds. What's really special about winter in Lancaster County is seeing authentic Amish life when most tourists have gone home. Our travelers often tell us they love having extra time to dig deep into museums and historical sites during the cooler months.
