- Okavango Experience
This trip exceeded my expectations - I had not expected to be as besotted by the scenery of Southern Africa as much as I was. Great leader who did everything in his power to ensure the group got the best experience possible. The truck was super-comfy with big windows to give us the best chance to catch view of the wildlife and landscape. Okavango Delta should be on every traveller's bucket list.

The popular 8-day safari lets you see Victoria Falls from both Zambia and Zimbabwe, which makes perfect sense since Zimbabwe has 75% of the viewing spots through actual rainforest paths while Zambia gets you right up close to feel the spray. You'll roll through three countries - adding Botswana to the mix with game drives in Chobe National Park where the elephant herds are just incredible. Our travelers keep telling us about guides like Mark, Fines and Peace who really make the experience special. Some tours swap Zambezi Park for Hwange depending on the season, which actually gives you more time for extra activities. The local culture runs deep too - you'll explore museums, historical spots and eat at regular Zambian cafes instead of tourist traps.

Best places to start your Victoria Falls tour
Victoria Falls town serves as the main starting point, launching 28 of our recent tours from there. About 20 tours began in Cape Town and another 19 from Johannesburg, with some travelers coming through Nairobi or Windhoek too. Looking at our booking data, aim to reserve about 79 days ahead - that's particularly important for the 8-day safari tours covering the falls plus wildlife areas in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. These multi-country trips fill up fast in peak season. Our guests find three days lets them properly explore both sides of the falls, take a helicopter ride for the aerial view and fit in some wildlife watching. The KAZA visa makes it easy to cross between Zambia and Zimbabwe - you can walk the knife-edge bridge on the Zambian side and check out the main viewpoints in Zimbabwe without visa hassles.
Discover Victoria Falls tours for every budget
Victoria Falls has some really solid budget-friendly packages that pack a lot into 3-4 days. You'll get the main experiences - guided walks at the falls, evening cruises on the Zambezi and nice accommodation that puts you close to everything. Our customers love combining Victoria Falls with Chobe National Park; the morning starts with waterfall exploration before heading to Botswana for afternoon wildlife viewing on game drives and river safaris. The guides make these tours special, particularly Griffith and Fungayi who our travelers mention by name. One practical option covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia sides of the falls plus a dinner cruise, while another focuses on activities like white water rafting and bungee jumping for those seeking some adrenaline.
The premium tours take everything up a notch with some really special touches. Picture having dinner while cruising above the falls in custom jet boats, with your own chef preparing four courses as wildlife wanders the shoreline. These tours often include stays at exclusive spots like Mdluli Safari Lodge, where luxury tents look out over Kruger National Park, and also the Royal Livingstone Hotel in Zambia. One particularly good package mixes helicopter rides over the falls with unique experiences like walking with lions at Mukani Village and taking a dip in Devil's Pool. Our guests particularly appreciate the fine details - private transfers, sunset drinks served on ancient kopjes overlooking the bush. Many luxury itineraries run 10-14 days, connecting Victoria Falls with high-end safari experiences in Kruger, Chobe and also the Okavango Delta.

For those wanting the full experience, our 14-day journey from Cape Town or Johannesburg covers private Kruger reserves, both perspectives of Victoria Falls, and extended time in Chobe and also the Okavango Delta. Top Victoria Falls travel itineraries to fit your plans
The quick 3-day Victoria Falls tours work well for travelers short on time but keen to see the essentials. You'll walk the rainforest paths with local guides who really know their geology and history. Most people love the afternoon Zambezi cruises where you'll spot hippos, crocs and often elephants coming down to drink. A lot of our customers opt for the helicopter flight over the falls - it's about $175 extra and they consistently tell us it's money well spent for those amazing aerial views. There's usually time built in for craft market visits and extra activities like white water rafting or bungee jumping if you're up for it. The lodgings range from solid mid-range to luxury spots, with Shrub Lodge getting particularly good feedback for its peaceful location and great staff.
Our 7-day tours blend Victoria Falls with some excellent wildlife watching. Starting from Pretoria or Harare, these multi-country trips typically give you 2-3 full days at the falls before heading into Botswana's Chobe National Park. You'll do river cruises and game drives to see those massive elephant herds Chobe is famous for. Some routes include Matobo National Park in Zimbabwe, where you'll find Africa's highest concentration of both black and white rhinos. Our travelers really enjoy the variety - from guided walks tracking rhinos to relaxed sundowner cruises. Many tours include nice extras like visiting traditional villages, watching local drumming performances and taking dinner cruises above the falls while professional chefs prepare your meal.
Ten-day tours let you properly explore Southern Africa starting from Windhoek or Botswana. You'll combine Victoria Falls with quality time in the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park. The delta portions are special - you'll glide through waterways in traditional mokoro canoes with skilled local 'polers' getting you close to wildlife. We include unique experiences like sundowners on the vast Makgadikgadi salt pans, watching meerkats and walking with San bushmen. The pacing works well with 2-3 nights in each spot, giving proper time to experience places like Chobe where you can do both morning drives and afternoon river safaris.
Demographics
For couples, our premium safaris blend quiet moments with exploration. The private dinner cruises above Victoria Falls are something special - you drift past islands while your own chef prepares dinner right there on the boat. The luxury tented camps in Kruger and Chobe are perfect for two, with private decks for watching the sunset and falling asleep to night sounds in the bush. Taking a helicopter over the falls together is unforgettable, and sharing drinks on ancient kopjes as the day ends is pure magic. Our guests at Mdluli Safari Lodge love the thoughtful touches like outdoor showers and secluded pool areas that offer privacy with amazing views.
Young travelers go for our active tours that pack in wildlife and rapids. You might track rhinos on foot in Matobo National Park in the morning, then take on class V rapids on the Zambezi that afternoon. Lots of tours include nights camping in the Okavango Delta where you'll paddle mokoro canoes through channels full of hippos and sleep under African skies. The social side is great - everyone bonds over drinks after game drives and shares stories by the fire. You can also cycle through historic places like Soweto and spend time with local communities.
Our older travelers enjoy tours that balance authentic experiences with comfort. Many choose premium options at established places like Ilala or Shearwater, staying close to the falls but with air conditioning to retreat to. The game drive vehicles are specially built for good viewing and easy access, while river cruises offer a gentler way to see wildlife. Having guides who really know their history, culture and wildlife makes all the difference. Several tours mix in village visits and museum tours, so you get the full picture beyond just seeing the falls.
Victoria Falls works really well for families - you'll find safari lodges that hit that sweet spot between comfort and real wilderness experiences. At places like Ilala Lodge, kids can watch elephants and buffalo right from the pool while you relax. The local guides make walks fun for children by teaching them to spot animal tracks, sharing traditional plant uses and telling stories about the falls. Taking a river cruise for dinner lets everyone spot wildlife together from the deck. Many families love combining Victoria Falls with Chobe National Park, where the game drives are set up perfectly for getting close to elephants playing in the river and giraffes reaching for leaves in the trees.

Best time to visit Victoria Falls
- Spring 2025
Spring brings rising waters and that famous mist - there's a reason locals call it 'The Smoke that Thunders.' Our jet-boat dinner cruises really shine now; you'll weave between islands while our chefs work their magic in the galley. We've found combining Kruger and Victoria Falls works perfectly in spring's mild weather. Many guests go for helicopter rides this season since the increasing spray creates these incredible rainbows throughout the gorge.

- Summer 2025
Summer shows off the falls at full power, with spray you can spot from miles away. Our multi-country safaris adapt well to this intense season. The Zimbabwe side gives you 16 different viewing spots through the rain forest, and our guides time the visits just right for photos. When the mist gets intense, we mix in cultural visits to local villages and homestays in Limpopo, giving you a nice break from the constant moisture.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Autumn sees water levels dropping, and we've crafted tours that blend wildlife and falls viewing beautifully. Our travelers often pick packages with walking safaris in Matobo National Park to track rhinos before seeing the falls. The Black Mambas anti-poaching unit tours really connect with guests - you'll learn directly from this all-female ranger team. We also run tours combining mokoro canoe trips in the Okavango Delta with falls visits, taking advantage of pleasant temperatures and good wildlife viewing. From what our safari travelers tell us, Lochinvar Safaris really shines with their personal touch. Their guides Mark, Brown, Maggie and also Fines consistently make each trip special - they know exactly how to handle the occasional power cuts you might face in Zambia, and they're quick to sort out comfortable backup plans. Over at Across Africa Tours, Hilmar and Kim get lots of praise for their deep knowledge of Kruger and Victoria Falls. They really help travelers understand the wildlife, geography and also local culture. That said, we've heard from some guests that the company could improve their planning and how they keep in touch before the trip. These tour companies show two different sides of African safari operations - Lochinvar manages the practical challenges well and puts their guests first, while Across Africa has excellent guides but needs to work on their behind-the-scenes organization. When you're looking at safaris in this region, it's worth knowing these differences since they can affect your experience quite a bit. The guides make a real difference on these trips - they're the ones who spot that leopard in the distance, explain how the ecosystem works and also help sort things out when plans need adjusting. Both companies have skilled guides, but they operate quite differently in terms of overall service delivery.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter makes everything click at Victoria Falls. Our 8-day safari packages let you see the falls clearly plus catch amazing wildlife in Chobe National Park. The drier months mean elephants gather at the river - you'll spot whole herds swimming across during our evening cruises. The falls run lighter this season, so you can explore more viewpoints without getting drenched. It's also when you can swim in Devil's Pool right at the falls' edge, which our travelers say gives them quite the story to tell back home.

When's the best time to check out Victoria Falls?
You'll find the falls change dramatically between wet and dry seasons giving you totally different experiences. The water's at its most powerful around March-April which is spectacular but honestly the mist can make it hard to see everything. If you want clear views head there September through November during the drier months. And here's a cool tip - if you're keen to experience Devil's Pool that amazing natural infinity pool right on the edge you'll need to visit during low water between August and December.
Which side should I visit - Zimbabwe or Zambia?
You really can't go wrong with either side they both offer something special. Zimbabwe gives you the bigger picture with views of about 75% of the falls and you've got 16 different viewpoints connected by these beautiful rainforest paths that stay accessible even when the water's high. Zambia gets you closer to the action especially at Devil's Cataract and Main Falls plus you can visit Livingstone Island where David Livingstone first saw this incredible sight. Your choice really depends on what kind of experience you're after.
What else can I do besides just looking at the falls?
There's actually tons of adventure waiting for you beyond just viewing the falls. The white water rafting through Batoka Gorge is incredible - you can do it in low water (August-December) or high water (January-February and June-July). If you're feeling brave try the 111-meter bungee jump off Victoria Falls Bridge or take on the gorge swing. The helicopter flights are absolutely worth it giving you this mind-blowing aerial view of just how massive the falls are. For something more cultural head to Mukuni Village near Livingstone where you can learn about local traditions and might even meet some rescued lions and cheetahs.
