What people love about Central Europe Tours
- Best of Central Europe
I though the Intrepid tour was fantastic. The group leader did a great job in looking after us and providing us with good orientation in all the countries we visited. The only point that could be improved, was in relation to accommodation. In Prague, five people were placed in the one hotel with one bathroom and toilet. This is not really ideal, however, when we raised this issue, our group leader went out of his way to provide an alternate accommodation for my husband and I. I felt that this was really good and we were very pleased with the outcome. The other tour participants were great and I recommend this to anyone who is interested in a great holiday. Thank you Zsolt.

This tour had everything I was looking for! Great Eastern European food, great local beer, and a variety of things to do for any type of interest. The hikes were fantastic, and the transportation between stops was well organized. This tour offers a good balance of free time and time with the group, which allows you to come together at the end of the day over dinner to discuss your day.

It was my very first Intrepid trip and I enjoyed every moment of it. It was more than I expected! I loved the chemistry of the group (I miss them dearly), the accommodation location as well as the included activities. Being in a small group also has a lot of advantages like getting to know each of them personally and build friendships even after the trip. I was just so glad I took the trip through Intrepid!

"We were on a boat - Omega Kiss which had mosquitos on board which had access to our compartments. Interior paneling that allowed us to see in our neighbors compartment. Trash in bathroom not being picked up , need for pans and utensils in kitchen - our door knob kept falling off. The Captain could care less about providing a trip that we were comfortable with -He was In a hurry to get to the next port- only sailed for several hours even though we had fantastic opportunities to sail our last days. Would motor to our final ports without stopping to swim and have lunch just so he could get off the boat. Tour Radar attempted to add charges after our final contract and would not let us cancel what we knew was bound to be an awkward affair . Our departure price was reduced and Intrepid should honor their lowest price guarantee . Not a good experience at all - Intrepid promised the moon and didn't at all deliver. really regret having anything to do with trip - felt cheated and overcharged.

"This was a combined trip/s from Berlin to Budapest and then Budapest to Spit so I had an experience with two different tour groups. The scenery and history is explained so well by our tour guide and learning more about the Serb/Bosnian war was invaluable. Auschwitch was cold, wet and raining and it depicted the conditions under which these people had to survive. Very moving day indeed for all. Budapest has such beautiful scenery and lovely icecream, cakes and chocolates! Spit is a walled city and I was there before the crowds which made it more comfortable for all.

"We had some doubts about how this tour would operate. The tour operator is in China, and the tour is in Croatia. How could this possibly work? Very well, in fact. The tour operator was always very responsive to any questions I had. There is a local operator in Croatia who was both pro active, advising us of what and who was coming next, and responsive whenever I had questions. We were setup with a driver who was courteous and helpful. He knew quite a bit to tell us as we went along, but was not intrusive. The tour arranged excellent hotels, had very good and interesting suggestions for restaurants, and a fine itinerary. When bad weather meant that we missed our trip to Hvar and the Blue Cave, they were ready with a substitute. In short, this was a memorable tour. Expensive, but strongly recommended anyhow.

Discover Central Europe tours for every budget
Want to see Central Europe without breaking the bank? Our most popular budget routes run 7-10 days, connecting places like Munich or Budapest with stops in Prague, Vienna and also Bratislava. We kick things off with local orientation walks so you can get your bearings before heading out solo. You'll stay in simple but clean European hotels - they're usually a bit outside the city centers but the public transport connections are solid. Our travelers like how the optional activities work - you can keep costs down by exploring independently or join extra experiences like evening Danube cruises, which most people say are worth the extra euros.

Demographics
Our solo tours through Central Europe work really well with small groups of 10-16 travelers, which makes it easy to meet new friends along the way. You'll get a nice mix of group activities and personal time - join in for guided city walks and local beer halls, then branch off to explore using our guides' insider transport tips. Prague, Budapest and Krakow are particularly good picks for solo travel since they're safe cities with lots going on after dark. Our travelers tell us they love having someone sort out the train connections between places while keeping the freedom to discover things at their own pace.
The riverside routes connecting Vienna, Budapest and Prague are consistently top picks for couples. You get a perfect blend of romantic moments like classical concerts in Vienna's old halls and evening cruises on the Danube, plus practical perks such as central hotels and flexible meal arrangements. Many pairs tell us they appreciate having the key details sorted while keeping their evenings open for private dinners and walks together. The journey includes lovely stops in quieter spots like Cesky Krumlov and Bratislava where you can step away from the busy cities, and also includes shared experiences at castles and wineries.
Young travelers tend to go for our active Central Europe tours that combine culture with outdoor experiences. The routes include hiking up in Slovakia's Tatra Mountains, taking on the rapids of Dunajec River and cycling the Danube bike paths. There's plenty of social time built in - you'll share dinners in Prague's beer halls, learn to cook Polish dishes in Krakow and check out Budapest's unique ruin bars. Our younger guests like having an expert handle the planning while leaving them free to discover local nightlife and cool spots. The balance of planned activities and free time lets them shape their own experience.
Our senior travelers usually pick the comfort-focused tours covering Central Europe's highlights at an easier pace. We include hotels right in the city centers, gentle orientation walks and cultural experiences like music venues in Vienna and thermal baths in Budapest. The schedule leaves good gaps between activities, and our guides know exactly which restaurants and sites work best for different mobility needs. The older travelers in our groups really value having someone manage the train connections while still keeping their independence to explore as they like. They particularly enjoy our small groups and the chance to learn local history and culture from guides who know their stuff.
