What people love about Morocco Tours in January
- 9 Days Tour From Casablanca to Marrakech via the Sahara desert (Group)
My family (me, my husband and my 17-year-old daughter) went on this tour at the end of February, 2023. It was fabulous! At first we weren't positive it was a trustworthy company, as some of the reviews on other websites didn't seem real. I expressed this concern to Ali, the owner, and he did exactly the right things to make me feel comfortable. Our family enjoys flexibility when we travel and this was exactly the right way for us to see Morocco! A lot of people in restaurants and hotels speak English, but it was so helpful to have Sabir, our driver, there to help us with the Moroccan Arabic on occasion. The itinerary was exactly what we wanted to see. I did a lot of research comparing this to her to other tours and while there is a lot of driving, seeing Chefchaouen and sleeping in the Sahara were absolutely worth it. The large van we had was spacious and comfortable and routinely cleaned by our wonderful driver, Youssef The accommodations were routinely good though in Chefchaouen and Marrakech they were a little further away from the main sightseeing area than ideal. The food was great, the landscape unexpected and dramatic, the people friendly and the entire trip very safe. We have self-driven on many tours, but we were very glad we had sabir, especially in the mountains and Marrakech. I can't read this company or tore highly enough! You should use them for an exceptional Moroccan experience!
- 6 Days Best of Morocco
Just back from an amazing tour of Morocco with Ali from Morocco Joy Travel. Ali was an extraordinary tour guide. His exquisite attention to detail made the trip perfect. The riads were beautiful, comfortable and far exceeded our expectations. The restaurants and rest stops Ali chose had delicious food and clean facilities. The winding and narrow roads in Dades Valley, were beautiful and challenging, but Ali navigated them easily. Truly amazing driving skills. The rides in the van were filled with music, easy conversation, awesome stops for photos and a lot of laughter. We learned so much about Moroccan culture, history and traditions. Ali is the perfect tour guide!
- Imperial Cities & Sahara Discovery Tour from Marrakech
Honestly the guides and tour was amazing! The only thing that made it a bit annoying were 2 women who were on the tour. They were some of the most awful humans I have ever encountered and because of one of them yelling at the staff at the hotel and our guide for helping her, it made us 30 minutes late to depart. That then was a snowball effect which caused me to miss the ruins. So I was bummed about that; however, the professionalism of the guides with the 2 women who never once apologized for their behavior, their derogatory comments, (the list can go on) was outstanding. Issam, Moncef, and Fouad all were so respectful to them and never stopped providing 5 star hospitality to them. That speaks volumes for the tour company and the employees. The accommodations were amazing along with the food. 100% would recommend! Traveling solo as a female, I never once felt unsafe or disrespected. Because of the staff, I will be going back to Morocco!
What our customers ask about Morocco Tours in January 2026
What is the weather like in Morocco during January?
Morocco's January climate shows distinct regional variations. Marrakech and coastal areas see mild days around 65-70°F (18-21°C) with cooler nights dropping to 45°F (7°C). The Atlas Mountains and northern cities like Chefchaouen experience colder conditions often reaching freezing after dark. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The weather was quite cold especially in the mountains. Morocco is a country worth visiting where you can appreciate its special traditions despite the winter conditions."
What are the best places to visit in Morocco during January?
The winter month presents ideal conditions for exploring Marrakech's key sites like the Koutoubia Mosque and Bahia Palace with fewer tourists around. The historic medina of Fes becomes more accessible with pleasant daytime temperatures and accommodations like Hotel Royal Mirage offer good winter rates. The coastal town of Essaouira though windier provides a quieter setting for discovering local culture.
Are there any special festivals or events in Morocco during January?
The month brings several cultural highlights including the Marrakech Marathon and local music festivals throughout the country. Djemaa el-Fna square keeps its energy with traditional performers while Chefchaouen celebrates Amazigh culture through local festivities. As one TourRadar review states: "Even in January the nightlife at Djemaa el-Fna was incredible with musicians storytellers and amazing food stalls creating a magical atmosphere."
How crowded are tourist attractions in Morocco during January?
January falls within Morocco's quiet season bringing noticeably smaller crowds to major sites including the Fes Medina Chefchaouen's streets and Marrakech's main square. A TourRadar reviewer observed: "We often had sites almost to ourselves in January especially at places like Volubilis and Ait Benhaddou Kasbah making it perfect for photography and peaceful exploration." Properties like Riad Mogador Menara often reduce their rates during this period.
How does January affect desert experiences in Morocco?
The winter month creates pleasant conditions for daytime desert activities such as camel treks and sand boarding. Nights can be cold but upscale camps like Aiour Luxury Camp provide heated accommodation and extra warmth. According to a TourRadar reviewer: "The winter desert experience was magical - clear skies perfect for stargazing and surprisingly comfortable with the camp's amenities. The sunset camel ride was perfect in the mild January weather."
What are the prices like for Morocco tours in January?
The winter season brings reduced rates at many accommodations including the Hotel Dellarosa Boutique Marrakech. TourRadar statistics show daily tour costs averaging 100-130 USD lower than peak season prices. While desert excursions maintain regular rates the overall cost of traveling through Morocco tends to be more budget-friendly during January.
