What people love about touring South Italy solo
- Southern Italy
My husband and I spent an amazing ten days in Italy thanks to Alex from Eskapas. Also our guide Adrian was fun, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. I would absolutely recommend your tour company again and I have already. Thank you again! We loved every minute of it!
- Sicilian Secrets - Tour of Sicily 6 days
The tour guide, Placido, was excellent as well as the bus driver. They had good rapport with the group. We saw amazing sights, the accommodations were good, especially in Agrigento, and the commentary was good. Some things to improve: it should be highlighted that this is a WALKING tour and requires some mobility. We had three people who were challenged daily and the group was significantly slowed down as a result; also, there should be better communication between the tour company and cities and provinces about local events which might hinder the passage of the tour bus. (In our case it was a cycling race, which made it impossible to cross the road to our destination of Marsala and a wine tasting.) ; and finally, each day there were additional costs to get into sights. Each day it should be mentioned which places are optional and at what cost. We have already mentioned the tour to people we have met with good reviews but the above improvements would make it even better.
- Sicilian Secrets - Mini Tour of Sicily 5 days
We loved the Sicilian Secrets tour. Accommodation was great at most places and good at the lowest rated hotel. The places we. I sited we would not have been able to visit on our own especially the valley of the temples and the roman villa
What our customers ask about South Italy Tours for Solo Travelers
What makes South Italy particularly appealing for solo travelers?
South Italy's varied landscape and rich experiences make it ideal for independent exploration. In Sicily, travelers can hike Europe's largest active volcano, Mount Etna, visit local farms for honey tastings, and spend evenings in the medieval streets of Taormina. The region's mix of outdoor activities, food experiences, and cultural sites creates natural opportunities to connect with fellow travelers and locals alike.
Are South Italy tours welcoming for solo travelers?
Solo travelers regularly find themselves at home on South Italy tours, particularly in places like Sorrento where the relaxed pace and small group settings make it natural to bond with other participants. Recent travelers report making lasting friendships during their tours while enjoying the flexibility to balance group activities with personal exploration.
What type of accommodation can I expect as a solo traveler?
Tours typically use 3-4 star hotels that blend comfort with local character. In Catania, the Il Principe Hotel provides modern amenities in a central location, while the Hotel Aegusa in Favignana offers a more intimate setting. All rooms come with private bathrooms and air conditioning standard.
How much free time will I have to explore on my own?
Tours maintain a flexible schedule that pairs guided experiences with independent exploration. In cities like Palermo and Taormina, afternoons are often left open for personal interests, whether that's finding a local café, shopping in neighborhood markets, or visiting museums at your own pace.
What's included in meals on South Italy tours?
Daily breakfast comes standard with most tours, complemented by selected group meals throughout the itinerary. The Sicily Food & Wine Tour adds local food experiences like granita tastings in Catania and visits to honey producers near Mount Etna, alongside meals at local restaurants.
Are the hotels used on South Italy tours well-located for solo exploration?
Hotels are selected for their central locations and ease of access to local attractions. The Hotel Risorgimento in San Lazzaro puts guests steps from the main square, while Il Principe Hotel in Catania sits in the heart of the city, making independent exploration straightforward and secure.
