Very hard but rewarding, meet some amazing people, Mohammad our guide was brilliant, highly recommend
- Mount Toubkal Trek
Can't fault this trip, or our guide, Lahcen. Really was a very special trip.
- Winter Toubkal Trek (4 days)
An enjoyable four day adventure treking to and around Mt Toubkal. Communication was lacking at times, although we stayed flexible and everything worked out fine. The pick up was on time and very comfortable, with a lovely breakfast provided before our walk start at Imlil and amazing lunch on return four days later. All guides were very friendly and experienced in the local area and terrain. English was not widely spoken and therefore don't expect a detailed cultural commentary but we always felt safe and with a little french we got by. Food to and from the refuge was good however breakfast and lunch at the refuge was basic and a bit small for the significant energy needed for the trek - extra chocolate bars definitely required! The refugee was warm with large fires and the communal dorms were very comfortable. Be aware the toilets and showers were very basic, no toilet paper or hot water. Pay attention to the kit list, prepare for basic accommodation and you'll have an amazing experience. Thank you to Ibrahim our guide, we couldn't have had a friendlier or more genuine man. Clearly fondly known to all in the Toubkal area and made our trek authentic, safe and as relaxing as climbing a 4000m mountain can be!

The multi-day Toubkal treks really shine when you take time to adjust to the altitude. Our most requested option runs 4 days with stays in local Berber houses - travelers appreciate the smart acclimatization schedule around Imlil before going higher. There's also a great 3-day route starting from Aquersioul at 1,600m that crosses Tizi n'Oudite pass and lets you sleep in genuine mountain villages. Many clients still go for the direct 3-day climb, especially loving that pre-dawn push to catch sunrise at the top. If you want to ease into it, the 4-day Berber Villages route explores Mizane and Imnane valleys before the summit attempt. Strong hikers often pick the 6-day option which adds more peaks across the Toubkal massif.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursYou can mix up your Toubkal experience beyond just hiking. Our weekend package combines mountain trekking with paragliding over Moulay Brahim - you really can't beat those aerial Atlas views. Another solid choice pairs a shorter Toubkal climb with biking through Ourika Valley, pedaling past local farms and walnut groves. The e-bike tours let you cover more ground while getting close to Berber life, including home-cooked lunches in villages. Our gravel bike tours have struck a sweet spot with clients who want both solid riding and cultural connections, especially during stays in traditional guesthouses.
See all Active toursOur most popular Toubkal treks blend summit climbing with authentic cultural experiences. A really practical 4-day option starts in Marrakech with traditional cooking classes before heading to the mountains - travelers often tell us they love this mix of city culture and mountain challenge. There's also a direct 3-day route where you'll stay in local Berber homes along the way; the families are wonderful hosts and give you real insight into mountain life. If you want more time to explore, the 5-day tours let you discover hidden valleys and local communities while also helping your body adjust to the altitude naturally. For those who prefer sleeping under the stars rather than in refuges, we've got options that include camping in some remarkable spots along the route.

"We actually did not get to go on this tour. Due to unavoidable conflicts we were not able to go. We contacted Intrepid multiple times leading up to the trip to see if we could take a credit for another trip instead of cashing in on the insurance policy. Literally no response from them until the day we were supposed to leave. I can't attest to the actual trips but the administration is not great. Along with the lack of communication or just "automated emails", they sent us the attestation form of our physical fitness the day we were to leave for the trip (would think that would need to be done when you first book the trip). When we first booked the trip, I tried desperately to get anyone at Intrepid to send me an itinerary of the trip add-ons or what the heck was included in the add-on. For example a bike ride was offered as a day add-on after the trek but no one could tell me where the bike ride went or what it included.....just that I could pay to add it on. Based on this customer service, I would not book an Intrepid trip again. I think the company is too large with too many trips to provide quality customer service.

"A great trip. Everything was perfect. From the punctual transfer from the hotel to the mountains, the welcome at the starting point of the hike, a very experienced friendly guide, the food throughout the hike, the beautiful nature and the people in the Berber villages. Many thanks to Hassan and Mohamed

Discover Mount Toubkal tours for every budget
The 3-day Toubkal treks really hit the mark for travelers watching their budget. You get straight to the good stuff - qualified guides take you up the mountain with mules carrying your bags and all the basic gear you need. Our clients love staying in local Berber homes along the way, where families serve up proper homemade tagines and pour endless cups of mint tea. The guides are great at reading the group, adjusting the walking pace so everyone can acclimatize properly. While the mountain refuges are simple, they've got all you need for a good rest before summit day. It's a no-frills approach that keeps costs down but gives you the full mountain experience.
If you prefer your mountain climbing with added comfort, our premium Toubkal routes blend serious hiking with some nice extras. The valley treks are particularly popular, using eco-lodges with pools as staging points before heading up to the summit. You'll get your own transfer from Marrakech, skilled cooks who prepare fresh picnics and nights in traditional kasbahs with proper beds. Most accommodations have en-suite rooms and reliable hot showers - something our clients really appreciate after a long day on the trails. The Toubkal Lodge is a highlight, offering clear views of the peaks and excellent local cooking. Many travelers choose the comfort valley trek, which takes you through walnut groves and mountain villages to help with acclimatization before the main climb.

The 3-day Toubkal treks come with several smart route choices. Through Imlil, you'll spend a night at Dar Ouassaggou before climbing up to the Toubkal Refuge at 3,206m. Our clients really love meeting local families in Ait Souka village, where they serve home-style meals, and getting cultural insights from Berber guides along the trail. Starting from Imi Oughlad gives you a gentler approach through juniper woods and mountain villages before connecting to the main path - it's particularly good for seeing daily village life. Some travelers prefer the direct route with two nights at the refuge for better altitude adjustment, while others choose valley treks with guesthouse stays and easier hiking on the lower paths. These quick routes work well because they mix proper altitude adaptation with real local experiences.
TourRadar recommends visiting:
Marrakesh, Imlil, Mount Toubkal
Week-long treks let you really sink into the Atlas Mountains. Our most effective route begins in Marrakech's medina and includes two nights in Aroumd village to get used to mountain life before the summit push. Our travelers often tell us this slower pace makes a big difference - you'll get proper time to adjust to the altitude, explore traditional markets and learn about Amazigh culture. Many guests choose the Mizane Valley camping option, loving the starlit nights and tasty meals from our camp cooks. Winter climbs also run for seven days, adding essential crampon practice and flexible weather days, plus you get to see the mountains wearing their snow coat.
TourRadar recommends visiting:
Marrakesh, Imlil, Tacheddirt, Tizi n’ Ououraïne, Amsouzart, Lac d’Ifni, Mount Toubkal
The 10-day journeys blend Toubkal with Morocco's rich culture. Our full route starts in Casablanca, moves through Chefchaouen's blue alleyways and includes a desert night before heading to the Atlas Mountains. There's also a trek-focused option that starts with easy walks in the Azzadene Valley, builds up with smaller peaks and then takes on Toubkal - our clients say this gradual approach really helps with altitude. These longer trips give you time to properly explore historic kasbahs, traditional markets and also remote Berber villages that you'd miss on shorter treks.

Demographics
Young adventurers gravitate toward the direct 3-day routes up Toubkal, where they find a perfect balance of physical challenges and genuine cultural moments. Our travelers connect with Berber families over traditional tagines, sleep under pristine mountain skies, and the popular 4-day options let them join cooking sessions in local homes. The mountain refuges create natural meeting points where climbers from different corners of the world swap stories and share experiences. Pre-dawn summit attempts appeal especially to younger groups, who often follow their climb with peaceful afternoons in village hammams. Those looking for extra challenges take on gravel biking through Ourika Valley, pedaling past traditional villages and stopping at walnut groves for scenic lunches along the way. The guides strike an expert balance, maintaining safety protocols while giving groups enough space to feel independent, and keeping spirits high as travelers forge natural bonds during their mountain journey.
Families with younger kids do really well on our slower-paced 5-day Toubkal routes that include rest days in the valleys. Parents appreciate how the guides share local stories and keep children engaged while walking through Berber villages and along gentle paths. The circuit routes starting from Imlil work nicely for families, with mules carrying gear and plenty of photo stops. Many choose our guesthouse-based trips which offer proper family rooms and home-cooked meals that kids actually enjoy. Multi-day acclimatization lets everyone adjust naturally, and the guides are great at spotting when younger hikers need an extra break or snack stop on the trail.
Young teens particularly connect with our 4-day programs that mix cultural activities like bread-making in local homes with gradual hiking up to the refuge. Teen groups often prefer camping to guesthouses, creating their own little community at base camp. The guides know exactly how to balance safety with letting teens feel independent on the mountain, keeping parents relaxed and kids motivated through the summit push.

- Spring 2025
Spring's perfect for climbing Toubkal and you can really take your time with our 6-day valley routes. You'll see walnut trees coming into bloom while you're getting used to the altitude. The 4-day trips strike a nice balance - you get proper summit preparation plus time to explore places like Jardin Secret and also Bahia Palace back in Marrakech. Our travelers love learning local cooking in Marrakech and staying in traditional Berber homes. Most people choose the mountain refuges and guesthouses, though some tours offer camping under those clear spring skies.

- Summer 2025
Summer sees more people reach the summit than any other season, with different ways to tackle the climb. The 7-day route gives you proper time in Aroumd village - our clients consistently say this makes all the difference. If you're used to altitude, the 3-day direct route might suit you better. Summer lets you sleep out on guesthouse terraces under the stars, with the refuge providing shelter higher up. The guides plan around the heat, often starting before dawn so you catch sunrise spreading across the Atlas mountains.

- Fall / Autumn 2025
Autumn brings better visibility and cooler hiking weather, making it great for photos. While the 3-day direct routes work well, many people go for 5-day trips to explore quieter valleys too. The autumn light really brings out the mountain scenery and the trails are more peaceful. You might learn to make traditional bread in Imlil, visit Sidi Chamarouch shrine or share meals with local families. The mountain refuges are quieter too, giving you more chances to chat with fellow hikers and also local guides. Based on what our travelers tell us, Intrepid stands out for Moroccan treks - they're organized, fairly priced and their guides Lahcen and Mo really know their routes and local culture. Trek in Morocco is another solid choice; Abdul gets lots of praise from clients who enjoy his attentive style and the company's home-cooked meals along the trail. View Morocco delivers good experiences overall, though you should know that some guests mention basic sleeping arrangements at higher camps and occasional delays in email responses. Their routes are solid but communication could be smoother. If you're into mountain biking rather than hiking, MTB Morocco runs a tight operation. They maintain their bikes well, provide quality gear and can adjust routes based on your riding level. Our cyclists particularly like how they handle everything from beginner trails to technical single-track descents. Best to book any of these several months ahead, especially for spring treks between March and May when conditions are ideal and groups fill up quickly. The companies all handle logistics like mule support for bags, camping gear and food prep - letting you focus on the walking or riding.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter on Toubkal transforms into something totally different. The 3-day direct ascent works really well with our small groups of 4-8 people, and we provide proper winter gear along with experienced high-altitude guides. The mountain refuges are pretty basic but they're exactly what you need in winter conditions. Our travelers tell us how much they appreciate the hot, filling traditional meals after a day in the cold. We keep the routes flexible too - if the weather turns, we can switch to alternative valley paths that still give you that winter mountain experience.
