The 6 Day Best ıf France with the Loire Valley and Normandy tour was outstanding!! Dominique, our tour guide was beyond amazing! He was knowledgeable, informative, helpful and established a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Jean Paul our driver, was the best!! And, it goes without saying that all of the destinations were phenomenally beautiful. We are already searching the options for our next trip with Eskapas!!

Good itinerary - D-day and Mt. St. Michel were standouts. I also really liked Loire Castles. Amazing...! We saw the most charming little towns. Experienced informative talks about the places we went, and had enough free time to wonder through the shops. Out tour guide Gilbert was superb. Every effort made to make our travel experience excellent .e was a wealth of information and his maps and storytelling really brought history to life. All well organized. Hotels are standards and their meals are OK. Bu we went out to eat in local restaurants. Can't wait to book my next trip.

This was the trip of a lifetime!!! We never could have planned and organized a trip so detailed and just perfect in every way on our own!!! We had such a wonderful time with the group and everything went so smoothly. We loved all of the tours and the driver was prompt and professional. All tickets were purchased in advance and waiting for us upon arrival so all we had to do the entire trip was enjoy ourselves!!! There was not a single moment we had to “think”. Everything was handled for us. Ann Marie was a wonderful tour guide, her English was great and her knowledge of France, Art, History was wonderful. She made us feel like locals by the time our tour was finished! Thank you very much for helping us to live this great experience.

The Loire Valley castles form the cultural heart of Northern France, where you'll walk through elaborate châteaux and spend time in their perfectly kept gardens. Our guests love exploring Rouen and Honfleur - two towns that really show off their medieval roots and seaside character. The impressive Pont de Normandie bridge links these areas, and lately we've seen more travelers choosing to explore the Loire Valley by bike, combining countryside rides with stops at family wineries and local market squares. When it comes to Paris, the Eiffel Tower and Louvre are must-sees, but our travelers suggest taking your time rather than rushing these famous spots. If you're looking for quieter moments and nice weather, spring and fall bring fewer tourists and comfortable conditions for exploring outdoor sites and historical places.
See all Northern France toursSouthern France captivates with experiences that blend medieval charm and coastal beauty. Our customers regularly tell us how much they love cycling through quiet lanes between vineyards, stopping at stone-built villages where time seems to have stood still. The local cuisine forms a central part of the journey - from morning markets filled with fresh produce to evening wine tastings in centuries-old cellars. The combination of biking through wine country and exploring historic townscapes creates those perfect, slow-paced days that travelers remember long after returning home. What sets these tours apart are the local guides who bring each location to life with stories and insider knowledge of hidden spots and local traditions.
See all Southern France toursProvence blends artistic heritage with landscapes that really tell a story. You'll find France's only classified road - the Cezanne Route - which takes you through the exact spots where the artist created his famous works. Our travelers often fall for the medieval character of Gordes, and many follow Van Gogh's path through the region. Days unfold naturally here - maybe a morning cycle past lavender fields, then wandering through hilltop villages in the afternoon. The Calanques give you fantastic hiking where limestone meets sea, and the food scene in Lyon alone makes the journey worthwhile. While June through August brings the famous purple lavender fields, September offers wine harvest experiences with smaller crowds. What makes trips special are those intimate moments - cooking with locals in village kitchens and visiting private châteaux that aren't in guidebooks.
See all Provence toursA Rhone River cruise brings France's cultural highlights right to you, with TourRadar customers frequently talking about three main draws: the natural beauty of the Camargue with its wild horses and pink flamingos, the impressive Roman engineering at Pont du Gard and also the grand Papal Palace in Avignon. The onboard experience gets lots of praise too - from the local wine selections to the regional dishes prepared by the kitchen team. Many travelers mention how much they enjoy the intimate cooking classes with local chefs and wine tastings in historic cellars, especially in Beaujolais and Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

See France from a unique perspective with one of our top-rated river cruise tours, brought to you by internationally acclaimed cruise companies. Experience iconic cities like Paris, the castle-dotted natural Loire Valley, and heavenly food and wine.
See all River Cruise toursThe Mont Blanc area offers really well-designed hiking routes that combine proper challenges with top-notch alpine views. Our groups love taking the cable car up to Bellevue before setting off on the Tour du Mont Blanc path right under the Bionnassay glacier. Over in the Ardeche, you can walk through volcanic terrain around Les Estables, following paths across the Echamps plateau to quiet spots like the Soutron chapel. If you're interested in mixing history with coastal walks, the Normandy trails between Deauville and Bayeux let you explore sections of Omaha Beach before heading inland through apple orchards and traditional farms. These hikes work so well because you're not just walking - you're discovering cultural spots, whether that's up at Chamonix viewpoints or in small medieval Ardeche villages.
See all Hiking & Trekking toursFrance offers solid active trips, from paddling the Dordogne to cycling through Provence's vineyards. On the Dordogne, you'll canoe past medieval castles and limestone cliffs, staying in riverside châteaux and visiting places like the Grotte de Lacave. Cyclists find great routes around Mont Ventoux and through the Rhône Valley, while others prefer mixing biking with wine tasting in areas like Chateauneuf du Pape. Our travelers tell us they love how these tours balance physical activity with cultural bits - maybe paddling in the morning, then exploring an old village or learning about local wines later on.
See all Active toursFrom the lavender fields of Provence to the dazzling beaches of Marseille, there’s no better way to see France’s storybook countryside than on two wheels. Ride past the verdant vineyards of Bordeaux, climb the weaving roads of the Alps, or pedal through the picturesque Loire Valley.

Based on the tour companies mentioned, here's what our travelers have shared: Insight Tours really delivers on the essentials - their guides Elizabeth and Shona consistently get high marks for deep local knowledge and genuine enthusiasm. You'll stay in upscale hotels and the daily timing works well, giving you enough time to actually experience each stop. If you're looking for flexibility, Cosmos has developed this handy CosmosGO app that lets you explore at your own pace. The schedules are well-planned but we've had mixed feedback about their local guides. A couple of our travelers with medical needs mentioned having some difficulties getting proper accommodations sorted out. For active trips, Explore is doing particularly good work with their cycling tours. Their guide Erwin knows exactly when to push the pace and when to ease off - you'll get your exercise but won't feel rushed. The routes are carefully mapped to give you a proper mix of pedaling and relaxing. Paris City Vision's three-day Normandy tour comes with solid organization and Flora's guiding gets lots of praise. That said, several people felt they needed more time at key spots and weren't thrilled with the meal quality. It's worth noting this feedback came from TourRadar customers who took the trip in the past year. The nice thing about each of these companies is they all handle the logistics - you just need to decide what style fits your travel preferences and energy level.

"First the positive. Olbia, Maddalena, and Bonifacio are beautiful. The waters are crystal clear. The sailing is amazing. The approach to Corsica is particularly stunning. The captain was extremely competent and we always felt safe. We only had 3 people plus the captain on the boat, which made the accommodations comfortable enough (8 people would have been way too many for me). On the not so positive side, the beaches were just ok and the snorkeling was unimpressive. We did not experience any walking trails nor much wild life. Breakfasts and lunches were all on the boat, as were 4 dinners. It was not our understanding that, literally, the captain’s only responsibility was to sail the boat. He didn’t help with paying for, preparing, or cleaning up after meals. With only the 3 passengers, this meant that on our vacation, we took care of him. We called him when lunch/dinner was ready and cleaned his dishes when we were all done. He didn’t seem particularly appreciative nor did he reciprocate in any way. He didn’t offer tips on walking trails or comment on wild life opportunities. He took the zodiac out once, on request. Basically, he dropped anchor and we were on our own. Overall, it was a beautiful trip but it didn’t totally live up to the expectations set by the itinerary.

Best places to start your France tour
Our data shows Paris is the clear winner for starting tours - 48 of our travelers begin there. While you can also start from Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon and also Blois, these cities see smaller numbers with about 4-7 departures each. Looking at booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your spot around 4 months ahead (124 days to be exact) to get the dates you prefer, especially during busy periods. The timing that works best according to our past guests is April through June or September through October. These months give you lovely weather and real local experiences without July-August crowds. You'll find it easier to chat with locals and get tables at popular spots during these quieter seasons, particularly in busy areas like Paris and the French Riviera.
Discover France tours for every budget
France has some really solid value tours that pack in the good stuff without breaking the bank. The 6-day French highlights tour is our most popular budget option - you'll float down the Seine, see the Eiffel Tower and then head out to explore the Loire Valley's medieval towns and grand châteaux. Our travelers keep telling us how much they love the local experiences in places like Rouen and Saint-Malo, where the guides make history come alive right in front of you. If you prefer two wheels, there's a great Provence cycling route that takes you through apple orchards and charming spots like L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The routes are carefully mapped and our cyclists really appreciate having backup support, especially during those warm Provence afternoons.
River cruising in France takes luxury travel to another level, combining plush comfort with deep cultural experiences. The Seine and Rhône routes are particular standouts - these ships offer top-notch amenities while getting you right to the heart of French culture. One of our best cruises includes dinner at Paul Bocuse's Abbaye de Collonges, which our guests say is simply incredible. The Burgundy and Provence route is another favorite, stopping at premium vineyards and historical sites along the way. With about 135 passengers per vessel, these cruises feel much more intimate than bigger ships. You get attentive service thanks to the high staff numbers, and the large cabin windows mean you won't miss a moment of France rolling by.

Having detailed GPS routes while keeping the freedom to wander off and discover hidden corners makes these tours really special.

Week-long tours dig deeper into specific French regions. The Loire Valley cycling routes are carefully mapped to avoid traffic, letting you pedal easily between grand châteaux. Our guests particularly enjoy stopping at small wine producers, exploring Villandry's gardens and finding their own rhythm through medieval villages. The 7-day Rhône river cruises offer another solid option - you'll dock right in historic town centers, explore Les Halles food market in Lyon and meet family winemakers in Burgundy. Our guides really know their stuff when it comes to French culture, wine and food.

You'll stay in thoughtfully picked hotels, from converted châteaux to well-located city properties, and enjoy special touches like traditional Breton crêperie dinners.

Solo travelers find real connection on our French cycling tours, especially along the Canal du Midi where you naturally meet other independent riders while pedaling through medieval towns and wine country. The coffee stops and tastings at places like Château l'Amiral create easy friendships - our travelers often say these casual moments are highlights of their trip. The Provence routes work beautifully for solo guests too; they love sharing meals in local spots and trading stories about their favorite village discoveries. Our guides are pros at bringing the group together while giving everyone space to do their own thing.
Couples really click with our countryside tours in France, particularly the Provence cycling routes where you can take it slow and stop for impromptu wine tastings or picnics. Our traveling pairs often mention special moments they discover together - maybe a quiet visit to Van Gogh's garden in Saint-Rémy or watching the sun go down from Carcassonne's medieval walls. The Seine river cruises offer a luxe option with private balcony views and intimate dinners. These tours hit just the right mix of planned activities and free time to wander through villages at your own pace.
Our French Dream tour hits the mark for young adults who want to stay active. You'll cycle the Loire Valley, explore underground caves in the Dordogne and dive into wine experiences in Bordeaux. One day you're canoeing under ancient bridges, the next you're seeing prehistoric art at Lascaux. The Alsace route is another favorite - younger travelers mix up bike rides between storybook villages with nights checking out Strasbourg's buzzing food scene. The guides know all the good spots for post-ride drinks and local specialties, which our younger guests really appreciate.
Our Best of France tours work perfectly for senior travelers who want to see the highlights without rushing. We use comfortable coaches between stops and pick hotels right in the center of things. The schedule balances guided visits to Mont Saint-Michel and Loire Valley châteaux with plenty of time to explore independently. Our older guests often mention how much they value having someone else handle the logistics while still keeping things flexible. The guides get lots of praise for their deep knowledge; they make each place come alive through stories and local connections.
Parents love how our France family tours mix learning with fun activities that work for all ages. The Paris-to-Normandy route lets kids get hands-on with history - they try on actual field jackets and sample WWII soldier rations before heading to the D-Day beaches. Over in the Loire Valley, young explorers get their own inventor's notebook at Leonardo da Vinci's final home and paddle canoes right up to Château de Chenonceau. Our guides have a great touch with different age groups; one mom told us how her 10-year-old was completely absorbed in the D-Day sites because the guide knew exactly how to tell the story for younger visitors while keeping adults engaged too. Families tell us they really like having both structured activities and free time to explore on their own.

In Provence, cycling groups head out early to tackle routes like the Les Baux climb, then spend afternoons checking out Van Gogh sites or relaxing poolside. Winter opens up a different side of France, especially around the Loire Valley and Bordeaux. You'll find the usually packed sites pleasantly quiet during these months. One route that works really well combines Tours and Blois with castle garden visits - Villandry's geometric designs look fantastic even in winter thanks to smart use of evergreens and structural elements. Down in the Dordogne valley, you can take your time exploring Lascaux's prehistoric caves and wander through medieval villages without summer tourists. The Padirac Chasm boat ride shows you France's underground geology up close, though check opening times as it closes during certain winter periods. Wine lovers get extra attention in Bordeaux this time of year, with more relaxed tastings and good chats with winemakers at places like Cité du Vin.
