What people love about Netherlands Tours
- Best of the Netherlands
I enjoyed the variety of places we went to giving a good overview. Not keen on Amsterdam as I prefer more country places but it was good to go around and learn more about the place with a guide. I enjoyed the canal rides and cycling in the place we stayed in the Arnhem area (new hotel apparently and was the best one). I loved the Keukenhof as well. Good guide but can't remember her name.

Rhine River cruises really shine during the warm months of May through September when the weather works in your favor. The Rhine Gorge steals the show as a UNESCO-protected stretch where castle-topped cliffs meet terraced vineyards along the water's edge. Many of our travelers tell us they love discovering authentic regional specialties like Rudesheimer coffee, while the professional crew handles all the details. It's a genuinely relaxing way to explore - you unpack once and let the changing landscape come to you. September deserves special mention since local wine festivals pop up during harvest season, adding an extra dose of local culture to your time on the river.

Looking at the feedback from people who've taken these tours, Cosmos does a solid job organizing their trips and packing good value into each day. The Tour Directors, especially Patrizia, get mentioned often for really knowing their material and managing the groups well. Though, not everything hits the mark - quite a few travelers mentioned they could skip the diamond center stop since it felt more like a shopping push than cultural experience. The Feniks barge situation is a bit more complicated. While some of our travelers loved gliding along scenic waterways with the friendly crew, others felt the cycling part needed work. The guided rides were too restrictive for experienced cyclists who wanted to explore at their own pace, and several mentioned the food was just okay - nothing special for a European river journey. It's worth noting that whenever travelers discuss the Cosmos tours, they consistently highlight the practical planning and good price point. But they also suggest adding more authentic local experiences and cutting back on the obvious tourist stops. With the Feniks, while the boat itself and crew get good marks, they might need to rethink their cycling format and perhaps step up their kitchen game.

Best places to start your Netherlands tour
Amsterdam naturally works as the main jumping-off point for Netherlands tours, with 30 of our most popular trips starting here in this canal-woven city. Some travelers like to kick off their Dutch journey from nearby cities - Antwerp offers 8 different departure options, Cologne has 5, while Bruges and also Brussels each give you 4 choices if you're keen to mix in some Belgian highlights. Looking at our booking data, you'll want to lock in your spot around 3.5 months (that's 109 days) before you plan to travel, especially for tulip season visits. The shoulder seasons - April-May or September-October - tend to give you great weather with fewer crowds. Winter brings its own charm with ice skating on frozen canals and cozy Christmas markets, plus you'll find much better deals on hotels and attractions. A public transport card is worth getting - it makes it super easy to explore both the big cities and those smaller towns where you'll see real Dutch life away from the tourist spots.

Our luxury river cruises really shine in the Netherlands, with several refined options to choose from. There's this excellent 10-day cruise from Amsterdam to Antwerp that makes well-planned stops along the way. You'll get to experience the Fabrique des Lumières in Amsterdam, explore either medieval Bruges or Ghent (it's your choice), and check out Rotterdam's innovative Market Hall. We've also got this special tulip-focused cruise where you get early access to Keukenhof Gardens before the crowds show up, plus private tours of the UNESCO windmills at Kinderdijk and visits to artistic communities like Veere. The 7-day Netherlands tours let you really discover Dutch maritime roots and cycling culture. One route winds through Haarlem and Leiden, where you'll find quiet courtyard gardens and the excellent Frans Hals Museum with its Golden Age paintings. Another option digs into local life and traditional crafts - it starts in Amsterdam before heading to Arnhem, where our customers particularly like seeing how modern city planning mixes with World War II history. The countryside routes include Giethoorn, which our travelers find more genuine and peaceful than Venice, and Groningen's car-free center. For cycling fans, we've got tours that blend cultural stops with daily rides through the polders, including visits to Gouda's cheese markets and Utrecht's old town center.

Demographics
Solo travelers connect quickly on our 6-7 day Dutch tours. A recent guest mentioned how their small group felt like family thanks to a tour director who made everyone feel part of the crew right from day one. Starting in Amsterdam, you'll join guided museum visits and canal cruises before heading to Rotterdam, The Hague and also Delft. There's plenty of time to explore independently - our solo travelers often wander through Amsterdam's Jordaan area or take optional bike rides in Groningen. You can join group dinners to mix with fellow travelers but keep your evenings free to do as you please.
Our Netherlands tours mix cultural sites with romantic moments that couples really enjoy. You'll find intimate canal-side dining in Amsterdam combined with visits to lovely villages like Giethoorn, which locals call the 'Venice of the North.' Couples tell us they love how we balance guided activities with free time to explore together. Multi-day tours from Amsterdam let you discover well-known attractions and hidden spots - think evening canal cruises, private walks through historic Delft and also peaceful visits to Keukenhof Gardens in tulip season. Some tours continue into Belgium, where couples can walk Bruges' medieval streets and try local chocolates together.
Young adults love our active 7-8 day tours that pair cycling with cultural exploration. You'll ride through coastal dunes, past historic centers and to local spots like Heineken's original brewery and Rotterdam's modern districts. The tours mix guided city visits with free time to discover on your own. Evening stops include Amsterdam's buzzing Rembrandtplein, where you can try local food and check out the nightlife. Our younger travelers say they appreciate having flexibility to see both major sites and local spots without being rushed.
Our seven-day Netherlands tours work well for seniors, combining comfortable travel with deep cultural experiences. We plan schedules carefully to avoid rushing between locations, with well-placed hotels, relaxing canal cruises and comfortable coaches for day trips. Many of our senior travelers enjoy early morning Rijksmuseum visits to see Dutch Golden Age art before crowds arrive, trips to traditional fishing villages like Volendam and also guided walks through historic centers. The tours include options to skip more active parts while still experiencing all the cultural highlights.
Our family tours in the Netherlands focus on experiences everyone can enjoy together. The Amsterdam-based multi-day tours give families room to explore canal cruises at their own pace, with time to visit spots that catch different family members' interest. Kids really love our Giethoorn day trips - there are no cars allowed and families get excited about navigating their own electric boats through the canals. Parents tell us their children light up at Madurodam's miniature city, where they can see Holland's famous buildings perfectly scaled down. The tours include stops at working windmills in Zaanse Schans and interactive cheese-making sessions in Volendam that keep both adults and children engaged throughout the day.

- Spring 2025
The Netherlands really shines in spring, especially during tulip season when our 7-day cultural tours capture the essence of Dutch life. You'll start at Keukenhof Gardens where millions of tulips, hyacinths and daffodils create those classic Dutch scenes everyone loves. Many of our guests tell us their favorite morning is at the Aalsmeer flower auction, watching the fast-paced trading unfold. We've got a great route that takes you through Amsterdam's canals, then to Delft where local artisans show you traditional pottery making, and also Rotterdam with its bold new buildings. For those who love cycling, we run tours from Amsterdam to Zandvoort along the coast before heading inland through the bulb fields to Leiden, Gouda and also other charming towns. Our guides point out that early spring brings fewer crowds at places like the Rijksmuseum and Zaanse Schans, which means better photos and more relaxed visits.

Our travelers often mention how well the city sights mix with countryside riding. Another route takes you from Amsterdam's museums to Giethoorn, a peaceful spot they call the 'Venice of the North' with its car-free villages and thatched houses along quiet canals. We've designed tours through Holland's green heart, where you'll pedal past nature reserves and small villages before ending your days in Utrecht, Gouda and also other historic cities.
