What people love about Great Migration Tours in Africa
- 15 DAYS ESSENTIAL KENYA & TANZANIA EXPEDITION
We Cannot rate this company high enough. Our experience from inquiry point was first class, very quick to respond to questions and help accommodate our requirements. Very friendly staff and great communication throughout. Assistance with visa application information provided in correspondence and also over the phone. We had a brief the day before our safari which was thorough and gave us the opportunity to ask any questions, our guide Norton was waiting for us the following morning and all though our 15 day safari was extremely knowledgeable of the areas we visited and on flora, fauna and wildlife. Norton wanted to ensure we had the best experience possible trying to locate as many different animals as possible, we managed the big 5 and many many more, thank you. We chose a luxury package at Neptune Ngorongoro which made our trip extra special. All in all we would not hesitate to use this company again, such an amazing experience, from inquiry, booking, actual trip and feedback after. The staff at Steppe Dogs Adventures work so hard to make your trip so special, thank you:)

Gail was the hero of our tour! Would recommend her as a guide to my friends.
- 43-day Kenya to Cape Town (Camping)
I'd like to express my gratitude for the experience I had with Acacia Africa earlier this year on a tour from Nairobi to Cape Town led by Prosper and Khumbu. The tour was truly life changing for me and the professionalism and personalities of the tour leader and driver were a big part of this. At all times I found Prosper and Khumbu to be fun, entertaining, helpful and accomodating. They're outstanding attitudes rubbed off on myself and my fellow voyagers, allowing us all to get the most out of our trip. I would also like to thank the whole of Acacia Africa for the smooth journey I experienced. I am sure that there is a mountain of behind-the-scenes work being done for each of these trips. The fact that our most noticeable hiccups were flat tyres reflects very well on the professionalism of everyone involved. Fave place visited: Spitzkoppe, Namibia Fave camp: Chitimba, Lake Malawi Fave activity: Serengeti game drives Fave animal spotted: Secretary birds Best swim: Kande Beach, Lake Malawi Best bar: Orange River stay, South Africa Best drink: Long island Iced teas, Zanzibar (beach stay)
What our customers ask about Great Migration Tours & Trips in Africa
When is the best time to see the Great Migration in East Africa?
The Great Migration moves between Tanzania's Serengeti and Kenya's Masai Mara throughout the year with the most dramatic scenes from July to October as millions of wildebeest and zebras cross the Mara River. From January to March herds gather in the southern Serengeti for calving season before moving north. Properties like Mara Sopa Lodge and Mara Enkorok Tented Lodge place travelers right in the migration path. A TourRadar traveler noted at Serengeti camp: "The migration can be seen every month starting with calving season in southern Serengeti from January to March."
What cultural experiences are included in Great Migration safaris?
Tours regularly stop at Maasai villages where travelers can learn about local traditions and daily life. Some itineraries include visits to smaller tribes like the Hadzabe and Datoga Bushmen as noted by a recent traveler: "We also visited the Hadzabe and Datoga Bushmen tribes which was quite interesting." Places like Ngorongoro Wildcamp weave cultural activities into their programs letting guests experience both wildlife and local customs.
How long should I plan for a Great Migration safari?
An 8-11 day trip provides enough time to track the migration through Tanzania and Kenya's key safari regions including Serengeti National Park Ngorongoro Crater and Masai Mara Reserve. One traveler's experience validates this timing: "We spent eight days exploring Serengeti where we stayed at Ikoma Wildcamp and Serengeti Wildebeest Camp. We then had two days in Ngorongoro Wildcamp which was absolutely fantastic."
What wildlife can I expect to see during the Great Migration?
Beyond the 1.5 million wildebeest and thousands of zebras the ecosystem supports an abundance of year-round wildlife. A Bamba Travel guest observed: "The incredible productivity of the rolling grasslands brings countless wildebeest zebra and water buffalo. Elephant giraffe warthog lion cheetah hyena and jackal are also all likely to be seen." The region hosts all of the Big Five plus 500+ bird species and various antelope including Thompson's and Grant's gazelles.
How much does a Great Migration safari typically cost?
Prices range from 2500-8000 USD per person for 7-14 day tours. Basic camping safaris start around 2500 USD while luxury lodge experiences can exceed 8000 USD. Most packages cover lodging meals game drives park entrance and professional guides. A recent Africa Venture Safaris guest noted about their 3800 USD tour: "It was worth every penny. The services were just excellent." Extra costs typically include flights visas and optional activities like balloon rides.
