Our top itinerary for ten days in Bali

Day 1 & 2 - Ubud - Explore the town and gain an insight into daily village life as you pass lush rice fields, centuries-old temples, and historical landmarks. In central Ubud, explore the town’s many cafes, galleries, and shops, or catch a traditional Kecak dance performance.

Day 3 - Sidemen - Set against a backdrop of Bali's highest peak, Mt Agung, the peaceful village of Sidemen is proof that Bali still has some pockets that are untouched by tourism. Take a morning walk around Sidemen, visiting the craftspeople of the local songket weaving industry.

Day 4 - Mt. Batur - Drive along the crater rim road to a fishing village on the edge of Lake Batur. Volcanic Mt Batur (1,717 metres/5,633 feet) sits inside a stark and spectacular caldera; with Lake Batur below, it's a stunning sight. The lake supports the local fishing industry, while many of the villagers work as guides for the volcano climb.

Day 5 & 6 - Lovina - Enjoy a day of snorkelling amongst Menjangan Island’s coral reef, part of the Bali Barat National Park. Take a boat ride into the National Park at Menjangan and stop for a soak at Banjar Hot Springs, a small spring popular with locals.

Day 7 - Munduk - Head to the tiny hilltop village of Munduk where you’ll walk through aromatic clove and coffee plantations to a spectacular hidden waterfall. Continue inland and stop at Lake Bratan for a delightful view of Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, a Hindu-Buddhist temple set on a small island in the lake.

Day 8 - Bedugul - Join a local family in making a traditional Balinese offering. Be welcomed into their home with a drink and delicious cake, before learning how to make an offering (canang) and gain a better understanding of this daily ritual that you will see all over Bali. Afterwards, visit their small spice garden and enjoy the surrounding views overlooking Batukaru Mountain.

Day 9 - Sanur - Enjoy a stroll along Bali's first beachfront walk, watch the fishermen in the shallows or kick-back and relax at one of the beachside restaurants. Get a feel for the traditions and local customs which are well maintained here.

Ten-day budget Bali itinerary

Day 1 & 2 - Canggu - Check out two of Bali's most famous temples: Tanah Lot, which is set on a rock formation in the sea, and the Royal Temple of Taman Ayun. In the evening, take in the spectacular sunset on one of Canggu’s coolest beaches before a big night out on the town in Canggu.

Day 3 - Kuta Beach - Time to hit the beach for some surf lessons on Kuta Beach (which also happens to be one of the best places to surf in Asia). Once you've learned to hang ten, head to Bali's most beautiful beaches before finishing the day watching another impressive sunset.

Day 4 & 5 - Ubud - Head to the bohemian jungle town of Ubud and make a stop at a beautiful waterfall en route to cool off. Then, head to the sacred monkey forest, a sanctuary that’s inhabited by hundreds of grey-haired and long-tailed Balinese macaques.

Day 6 - Tegalalang - Get ready for one of the most exciting (and famous) things to do in Bali - wandering through the scenic rice terraces of Tegalalang. Trek through the valleys and stop off at one of the many swings for a picture-perfect photo opportunity. In the afternoon, visit Kintamani for a spot of lunch overlooking the active volcano, Mt. Batur.

Day 7, 8 & 9 - Gili Island - Catch the bus then ferry over to the stunning tiny island of Gili Trawangan. There’s so much to see and do here: go island-hopping and visit some of the best snorkel spots in the country, explore the island by bike, hike to spectacular viewpoints, or party the night away at one of the many beachside bars.
