Safety
Safety
At Lupita Overland, safety is paramount. We continuously monitor travel advisories, maintain close communication with local authorities, and employ experienced crew members knowledgeable about local customs and safety protocols. Secure accommodations are carefully selected, and we prioritize health and hygiene, providing pre-trip safety guidelines.
Vehicle Safety
Our commitment to safety extends to our vehicle. Our new van undergoes regular inspections at the official Volkswagen Workshop, has comprehensive insurance coverage, and adheres to stringent safety standards. We equiped her with compulsory 3-point retractable seatbelts, emergency hammers, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits. Hand sanitizer is readily available, and we maintain strict hygiene protocols, including regular interior disinfection. Additional security measures include safety cameras, GPS tracking, and an alarm system, complemented by a recovery system.
Dual drivers
Both our crew members are experienced drivers, ensuring a safe and enjoyable travel experience. While the main driver is responsible for most of the journey, our tour leader can also drive when needed, creating a coordinated and secure travel environment. Our crew follows strict resting periods and abstains from alcohol consumption 12 hours before driving.
Sustainability
At Lupita, responsible tourism is our guiding principle. We understand the importance of tourism in Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, and we're committed to ensuring our adventures have a positive impact on both travelers and the communities we visit.
Empowering Local Communities: We respect and preserve local cultures and traditions, striving to minimize our impact on overloaded areas. Our customers receive information about responsible tourism and local traditions, while we stay updated on political, natural, and social situations.
Participation in Community Projects: Our trips aim to positively influence local communities and overlanders. We collaborate with and visit various local-run projects, promoting solidarity. We encourage our customers to participate and support these initiatives.
Supporting Local Businesses: As a Mexican company, we contribute to the local economy by paying taxes and encouraging our customers to shop at local markets for group meals. We foster long-term relationships with local guides, activities, campsites, and hotels for mutual benefit.
Defense of Human Rights: We prioritize providing fair conditions for our staff and collaborators, and we avoid working with providers promoting unfair labour practices. We strictly forbid any involvement in activities related to prostitution, drugs, or exploitation.
Environmental Commitment: We partner with environmentally-engaged companies for our activities and adhere to authorities' recommendations to protect natural areas. Our zero-trace and recycling policy, along with providing potable water and reusable shopping bags, promotes waste reduction.
Carbon Footprint Reduction: Our vehicle purchased in 2020 is designed for fuel efficiency, reducing carbon offset. We strive to have at least five passengers per tour to lower the carbon offset per person. Additionally, we collaborate with the Atmosfair Project to offset our carbon footprint. Please note, that as a new company operating in 2023, our Atmosfair Certificate will be obtained in 2024.
Fight Against Animal Cruelty: We refrain from including activities involving animal exploitation or harming nature. Souvenirs made from protected species are discouraged, and we educate our customers on wildlife preservation. Constant Policy Updates: Feedback from our passengers is invaluable in continually improving our responsible tourism practices. We regularly review and update our policy to ensure we uphold suitable activities.
Are Lupita trips good value for money?
Absolutely! Lupita trips offer excellent value for money compared to other operators. We go above and beyond to include more activities, meals, and visits, ensuring you get the most out of your adventure. While some competitors may skip essential attractions or leave activities as optional, we prioritize the quality and depth of your experience. Our approach fosters better group dynamics as everyone can participate in activities without worrying about additional expenses.
How do you prioritize sustainability and responsible tourism?
Lupita is committed to responsible tourism, with a focus on environmental sustainability and ethical practices. We actively collaborate with local projects, empowering communities. We educate travelers about responsible tourism and partner with eco-conscious companies, opposing animal cruelty and promoting wildlife preservation. Our initiatives include a zero-trace policy, potable water provision, and reusable bags.
What's Overlanding all about?
Overlanding is all about immersing in a country's essence, exploring highlights while straying from the tourist path. Our Inspirational Journeys offer transformative experiences. Lupita stands out with genuine expeditions led by a dedicated crew who arrange logistics and local guides, becoming your travel companions. While aiming for seamless journeys, embracing the unexpected is part of the excitement.
What type of travellers come on Lupita’s tours?
Lupita's tours attract adventurous travelers seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences. These adventures are open to all, requiring only a moderate level of fitness. Participants form connections with like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering lasting friendships. Whether solo or with friends, you can engage as you prefer.
What type of vehicle do you use?
Lupita, our specially designed Minibus, is the heart of our adventures. It offers ample space for luggage and camping gear and comes fully equipped with air-conditioning, a Bluetooth sound system, USB chargers on each passenger row, and a big fridge powered by an auxiliary battery. With its comprehensive camping gear, Lupita ensures safe and enjoyable journeys to remote areas, making unforgettable camping experiences under the stars possible!
What is the Fitness Level Required?
While you don't need to be an athlete, a reasonable level of fitness is required to enjoy the experience. You should be able to move around comfortably and climb steps. Entry into the van and some sites may involve steps with a height of approximately 45 cm. Some hikes may involve steep hills or uneven terrain, and you should be prepared for moderate physical exertion.
Will I get enough free time?
Absolutely! Our tours offer designated free time for independent exploration. While our itineraries are thorough, we value the flexibility for travellers to immerse themselves in destinations, interact with locals, and have personalized experiences. This free time allows you to explore towns, markets, and cultural sites, or unwind at your own pace. Your tour leader will offer suggestions and recommendations to make the most of these moments.
I have dietary requirements, is this a problem?
Please inform us of your needs during booking, and we'll consider them in meal planning. While touristy towns offer diverse options, certain regions may have limited choices. Common meals feature quesadillas and eggs with fillings like cheese, mushrooms, beans or chicken. Vegetarians might encounter repetitive options, while vegan choices are more restricted. Despite potential limitations in certain areas, we prioritize providing meals catering to all preferences.
How do Cook Groups work?
A Cook Group consists of 2-3 people responsible for meal preparation on a rotating basis. The tour leader assigns members and provides cooking ideas. For shopping, local markets are prioritized to support the local economy and enhance cultural experiences. Arriving at the camping sites, the kitchen is set up, and the cook group prepares meals at a relaxed pace. Dietary restrictions are considered; for instance, a vegetarian main sauce might be prepared with the option to add meat separately.
What type of accommodation is used on your tours?
Expect a variety of selected accommodations, including quality hotels, community-operated eco-tourism centres, and campsites, with opportunities for basic camping in remote areas. Camping constitutes around 20% of trips, with upgrade options available. In terms of services, we prioritize authenticity, offering convenience throughout the journey. Air conditioning availability varies, with fan-equipped rooms common in hot conditions. Charging points are accessible and Wi-Fi access varies.
Can I upgrade to a cabin when camping?
While upgrades are typically available, advance guarantees can't be provided. Your crew will help you secure upgrades during the trip. To ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience, please communicate in advance for upgrade requests or specific needs. We're committed to accommodating your requirements and prioritizing your comfort and satisfaction during the journey.
How do you arrange room sharing?
Room-sharing arrangements aim to foster a positive group dynamic. Hotels offer twin, triple, or double rooms, camping tents are for two people, while community stays may involve shared cabins. If booked with a person, you'll share with them; solo travellers share with same-gender companions on rotation. Double beds for partners and separate beds for friends can be arranged, and individual rooms are generally available for a fee.
Do I need Travel Insurance?
Having travel insurance is essential to protect yourself while on the trip. We require all passengers to have comprehensive travel insurance. We accept any provider as long as we have the necessary details, including the policy number and the company's 24-hour emergency contact number. It should cover medical expenses, emergency repatriation, personal liability, and trip cancellation or curtailment. While other inclusions of flight coverage are optional, it's best to consider them
Are there vaccination or testing requirements for your trips?
Lupita Overland does not require travellers to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Nevertheless, we strongly advise all travellers and leaders to get vaccinated for their safety and the safety of others. However, certain destinations or airlines may have their own testing or vaccination requirements, so travellers should check travel and entry requirements carefully.
Can you assist with pre or post-tour accommodation?
We sure can. Just let us know at the time of booking. We can provide options for accommodation in the same hotels where the tour begins and ends, ensuring a seamless experience. As part of our service, we can also recommend optional activities and attractions based on our local knowledge and expertise.
How much money will I spend during the trip?
While many activities and meals are covered, it's advisable to budget for optional activities, visa fees, and souvenirs. Passengers generally spend between 5 to 30 USD per day, and having extra funds for unexpected costs is recommended. No additional group funds are required during the tour. Gratuities for local guides and included activities are included in the price, but tipping the overland crew is appreciated though not obligatory. Tipping in restaurants and hotels follows common customs.
Is there a luggage limit?
On our trips you will be required to carry your luggage, sometimes upstairs and on and off transport. We, therefore, recommend you travel with a backpack or duffle bag, as rigid suitcases might get damaged during this process. Please note the largest weight for the main bag is 18 kg per person and dimensions should not exceed 75 x 30 x 30 cm. If you are a souvenir lover, remember to save some space in your backpack. You might need to ship items back home if you exceed your luggage allowance.
Will I need a sleeping bag/mat/tent?
In all our tours, we provide essential camping gear, so you don't need to bring a sleeping bag or mattress. We include tents with mosquito nets (shared every 2 people), 15ºC sleeping bags, liners, and a 2 cm thick foam mat. However, for added comfort and convenience, you can bring an ultra-light inflatable mat and a travel pillow.
