Excellent in fact in my opinion the only way to see Bonampak and Yaxchilan. Driving isn't a good idea and I've driven almost everywhere. Great mountain scenery along the way. It's a long day and a guide is a necessity. I was lucky because Martin was tremendous. Bring crazy amounts of Mosquito Repellent for both skin and special stuff for clothing. (I didn't get touched while others got bombed. Also, white shirts attracted these little pains but dark colors don't) Try to see Bonampak first then Yaxchilan later because the morning sun helps illuminate the magnificent murals but later tours are more dimly lit. It makes a great difference believe me. Restrooms aren't very, (How shall I put this?) restfull. The time on the riverboat is fun and watch for crocodiles. I didn't see any but I wish you luck. Try to sit up front in the tour bus because the Mexican "Topos" (Speedbumps) are enough to drive a sane person bananas. Most ancient ruins in Mexico have adjacent hotels but not here, it's best to visit for the day. Don't miss out because both sites are incredible and unique especially Bonampak. The murals are all but one of a kind. Good luck and winging it on your own doesn't work well and costs way more. Best wishes, Ciao!

I hesitate beetween okay and good score. Good overview of maya civilization, very interesting. Some of typical towns like Merida was good to discover. But too much time lost beetween steps, long time passed to travel by bus. The bus was always confortable. 3 of 4 hotels we spent one or two nights were inacceptable regarding 3 stars annonced. Some night prices around 35 euros by checking on site, so not the quality we expect for the tour price. Only Reforma hotel in Merida was typical and charming. First hotel in Cancun was in a bad quarter. Last hotel Melina in playa del Carmen was horrible, and I didn't find at all my room similar to the internet pictures, so strange, I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to sleep in that kind of place. In addition hot water is an hasardous things in the 4 hotels. Globaly for this trip, many many extra paiements. And too much similar temples we visited. Some beaches we saw are so nice and clean and safe. Mexican yucatan nature, tropical plants are very interesting. Mexican tourist workers aren't the most kind of the World. But common people are gently. To extend the trip by our own funds, we added a day in the famous xcaret Park, we recommand that because of the main great evening show about popular mexican History. For a next time to Travel , I would prefer know the hotel choices before pay.

This was a great tour. It was well organized. We were disappointed in our stay in Tortuguero though. We even upgraded our lodging to the boula lodge which was a more expensive hotel option. It was dirty, overpriced, and had horrible food. The staff was also not very helpful at all. It wasn’t worth the long transport to go there, and we were overjoyed that we only spent one day there. I’d highly recommend only doing one day in tortuguero and then go to San Jose. We stayed at la puesta del sol in Monteverde, and it was lovely and clean. Highly recommend adding on the bird watching and Don Juan coffee tour here. Also eat at Taco Taco! One of our favorites ever! Then la Regina hotel in la Fortuna was great too with great staff. Consider adding the morning hike for Arenal. Eat at pollo fortuneno. I can’t emphasize enough how bad our time at the lodging at la baula was in tortuguero!! It’s the only reason I’m not giving this 5 stars! Consider adding on some time in guanacaste if you’re doing a longer trip. Overall we felt like this was an adequate amount of time spent to see a lot of Costa Rica.
