None of the meals were exceptional. Breakfast and lunch were included. Breakfast was the usual fare (eggs, toast, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee) and lunch was usually the days special. I really can't blame the guide, as he let me select whatever was on the menu. However these places were mostly frequented by local labors and the menu was very basic (rice, beans, meat/fish/,soup, plantains) Two of the B&Bs were standouts for their birdwatching and one for it's uniquely beautiful accommodations. The other's were clean and adequate. One place was inferior, located on the beach the AC did not work making for a restless night sleep. Once again not really Pablo's fault but worth noting. The itinerary was fine until we started heading away from the Himalayas and into the lowland region towards Manta. Ideally an extra day for driving would have been in order because Pablo had issues with his vehicle and repeatedly had to stop on the side of the road and make adjustments which became very annoying, stressful and time consuming. He informed me he was aware of the problem before my tour started so it should have been addressed prior to my tour or another vehicle employed. By the time we hit Montecristi I did not have the energy or desire to view the process of making a Panama hat. Pablo decided late in the game to change a destination stay over because he realized there was little if anything that particular town had to offer as far as sightseeing etc and we were running out of daylight. This demonstrated some poor planning on his part, knowing the condition of his car would put us behind schedule. The best part of trip was the butterfly farm, birdwatching, hikes, cable car through the mountains and snorkeling off La Plata Island. This was an extremely long road trip for both the passenger and driver in a compact car that required numerous repair stops making the trip longer than necessary. I do not regret the journey to the coast and enjoyed the scenery. Pablo is a pleasant, easy going, informative, punctual guide. I think he should focus on a smaller territory and leave the more elaborate itineraries to companies with more resources.
