Back in 1989, two guys from Melbourne, Australia by the names of Darrell and Manch set off on an adventure to the other side of the world. They travelled to Africa and without air conditioning on their modified truck, they filled it with supplies, some beer, a bunch of aviator sunglasses, and...

I think the 3 day camping/4 day hike at high altitude is very challenging. You are moving at a fast pace with your oxygen saturation in the 80s ( all except 1 individual in our group) in unpredictable weather. The hike may be more enjoyable if the pace is changed (another day is added to the itinerary). Besides that -it was well organized, team leaders worked well, porters and cooks were fantastic. I am writing this detailed review so that people who want to sign up will know what the challenges are.

The porters were great, the food was amazing and we were all kept safe. Lose one mark as the guide in Cusco did not communicate information well. I suggest he prints/writes down basic information for the next day and pin it up on a pin board.

Despite a flight cancellation by the airline and a few other hiccups, it was a very well organized tour.

Fabricio was incredible. I actually got an gastrointestinal infection during the inca trail but he was so compassionate and sensitive to ensure that I was ok. He checked on me often and got me a doctor. He even gave me his number to contact him even after the tour was over just in case I was still feeling ill after I left Cusco. He was amazing and I'm very grateful to him. As a female traveling alone, he definitely made me feel less alone. Great guy and very passionate about what he does. I hope he is well recognized by Intrepid.

Intrepid chooses not to provide hotel lists until day 1 of the tour however they have confirmed they use a combination of camping (with basic facilities) and hotels, depending on your choice on the tour of doing the hike or train ride. If you choose to do the camping for the hike you will be in twin-share tents, with foam camping mats provided.

    • Do I need a visa?

As a tour booking website, TourRadar cannot organise visas for you on your behalf as the visa requirements are regularly being updated and vary for the nationality of one traveller to the next. It is for this reason that we recommend checking with your local embassy or consulate website for the latest up to date information.

    • What day is the best time to arrive for this tour?

Most travellers choose to arrive a day or so earlier than the tour start date so that they can get used to the altitude and explore the city more in their own time.

You can fly directly into Cusco to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport.
