- hayley· December 25th, 2022What a trip of a lifetime! Strongly recommend traveling Africa with Oasis - it was a truly unforgettable experience! I did the 75 day Nairobi to Cape Town trip with on average about 13 people. I’m so glad I did the entire route as it really gave you the chance to experience the diversity of Africa. It felt a bit tiring towards the end but I have no regrets. If you did want a shorter trip I would recommend Nairobi to Nairobi or Nairobi to Vic Falls - although Namibia is AMAZING! The truck itself is great - the line of seats down both sides of the truck are perfect for ensuring you socialise with everyone and relationships don’t get too cliquey. Great way to play card/board games, sleep and admire the amazing views. I sometimes get car sickness and it didn’t happen at all on the truck! The truck had UK charging points, drink bottle holders and speakers to plug music in which were all very handy! My tour leaders were Often and Alexis. Often was the most amazing guide you can imagine! After 75 days on the trip I learnt that there was nothing he couldn’t do! He was so helpful with fixing anything that broke - air mattress, zips, tyres etc not to mention helping with a million other things - when he saw you struggling to fit your tent into its bag, making his famous garlic bread for your cook group etc. He cooked the most delicious food! He always ensured his beloved truck was in perfect working order. He was so open in sharing his life experiences and ensured we fell in love with Africa just as he had. Essentially, the trip would have been very different without him. Like Often, Alexis has been doing this route for years and it showed. She was very organised - with the days and border crossings always going smoothly. She was great at making sure if there was a specific African meal or something we wanted to see that wasn’t in the itinerary we would get to experience it! Alexis was also really helpful when it came to meal times. The food cooked by Alexis and Often was some of the tastiest meals I’ve ever had! So yummy! Being in a cook group can be a bit of a pain but it’s a great way to get to know everyone, learn new recipes, have some laughs and foster that family feeling. I spent a lot more money than I thought I would but you’re only in Africa once (hopefully more)! There are a lot more atms available than what the info Oasis provide states. You also don’t need as much USD as it implies as you do end up using local currencies in the countries you’re in. For me, I had a tonne of USD so I just exchanged it at the borders and rarely used an atm. In saying that, having too much USD actually worked out well as some people didn’t bring enough so I was able to help them out. There will be supermarket/grocery store stops about every 3 days too so there is no need to bring all your toiletries etc. The tents, dorms etc were absolutely fine! Tents are really quick to put up and down and are comfortable. There are upgrades available and a few of us always took a dorm room if it was less than $8. My number one tip is to buy a pillow at the start of the trip - you won’t regret it! Bring a spare set of headphones and flip flops because so many of us lost or broke both! Don’t worry about over packing - you get a lot of space to store your things. I’d also recommend bringing binoculars for all the game drives - we were always fighting over who got to use the two that we had! Do both of the village walks in Malawi and make sure you go down the slide in Jinja! Overall, it was just the most amazing trip. I have travelled quite a lot but never seen and experienced a place like Africa and I’ll always be so thankful for the memories and friends I now have.Show moreTrip date: September 2022
- SShahd Saleem· November 3rd, 2019Overland trip to Africa has been a life time dream which I manage to fullfill through Oasis Overland. I chose 59 days trip fron Nairobi to Cape Town. Jim had been a wonderfull tourguide, easy to talk to and much more fun than one could expect at first. Walter (the driver) an amazing man with lot of humour and loads of knowledge about the route and local cultures. Best part of the trip was when we suddenly got an extra day because we decided not to stay overnight at delta. Jim and Walter came up with a plan to add not one but four surprises in the itenery. These surprises were a visit to the Meteorite, vist to San tribe (living peoples museum), EHRA (Elephand Human Relationship Aid) desert elephants. and visit to the Cape of good hope. I strongly recomend Oasis because its cost effective, its fun and it gives very unique experience.Show moreTrip date: October 2019
- Trish· July 29th, 2019I have just completed this 75 day tour and it met all my expectations, right from the very first day. Jim (our guide .... and so much more) and Walter ( our driver/mechanic ... and so much more) were the best I could have wished for. I was concerned at first that I had chosen to travel during the wet/winter seasons, but as it turns out it was very comfortable, and not too wet or cold at all. The group cohesion was wonderful, even though our age group varied from late teens to early 70's. We all got along very well. We had max 15 and min 5 people on the truck throughout the journey. The food was first class. I very much enjoyed buying along the way from both supermarkets and road side stalls and the cooking groups worked very well. To be honest, by the end of Namibia I was very over camping and the dust, but each day I counted my blessings that it wasn't the summer/dry season. I would recommend this tour to anyone wishing to see Africa from an overlanding perspective (now that I have done it, I believe this is the only way to truly appreciate the African adventure). This has to be the best experience of my life. I would also recommend Oasis Overland as a tour company - even though before undertaking this journey I had not heard of them.Show moreOasis Overland commented on this reviewHi Patricia, Thank you so much for writing this review. it is great to hear such wonderful feedback about your trip and that you are now an overland convert! - SOSarah· July 17th, 2014Now that I've had time to reflect since my return I have mixed feelings about my trip with Oasis. On a positive note Africa is amazing and it's impossible not to fall in love with the wildlife, scenery and people. I took hundreds of pictures and will never forget all the amazing things I experienced. Now for the negatives... The truck was a 24 seater and for the majority of our trip we had 24 travelers. This unfortunately meant we were incredibly cramped which was worse during the 8 hour drives. We bumped into a lot of other tour companies along the way and noticed that Intrepid, Acacia and Gecko ensure that there are two seats per traveller. Another negative point was our tour leader. She wasn't very organised and didn't seem to know much about the trip route and places we were visiting. As a group we would often have to refer to the guide books we brought with us to learn more about the culture and local attractions of the places we were visiting. We also lost 6 members of our group at various points along the route who were disgruntled with the organisation of the tour and decided to complete their trip without Oasis. Overall I won't be booking with Oasis again, though anyone wanting to do this route should definitely consider it.Show moreTrip date: March 2014
- Rebecca Fenella· December 14th, 2013Three months on and thinking about my time with everyone, with our truck, going around Africa still makes me smile. I didn't know what to expect, and read every blog I could lay my hands on to try and work it out but nothing I read online could prepare me for a trip like this. Because it isn't about itineraries, all the companies are so similar. It's about the ethos of the organisation, the staff they employ and the travellers they attract. Oasis is budget, and so you get the most chilled out people who love every aspect of 'getting your hands dirty' travelling. Which are my kind of people. The truck was awesome - it has such a unique and clever layout, the beach was my favourite bit - riding through Africa with my head out the roof drinking it all in. The crew were phenomenal, they got it all done but had fun and became real, actual friends with the group just like anyone else. I couldn't complain about a single thing in the itinerary, in the running, planning, pre-depature information, support from HQ - it was all top-notch for an amazing price. Lots of people see 'drive days' as a total drag on a trip like this but actually I loved them, the truck is laid out so you can chat to each other, have a dance party or just stick your head out of the sides/top for hours, and it's looking out the window that you see the real Africa. So I guess that's the most special thing about Oasis (though it is really hard to pick), that with them you really can get the most out of every day, not just the ones in somewhere already amazing like the Serengeti, Victoria Falls or the Gorilla Treks. I miss it so much, my only complaint is that it's over!Show moreTrip date: June 2013
- Hannah· March 5th, 2013Couldn't have asked for a better overall experience. Our crew were fantastic and really helped us to see Africa in a way that would have been difficult on our own. Travelling on the truck meant we had access to places that aren't on the map and got to stop in the beautiful middle-of-nowhere spots. Loved the meals round the campfire (not so great when you're on cook group but hey, it has to be done!). The majority of campsites were great and we really got to experience a lot thanks to all the optional activities on offer. Overall I absolutely loved my time with Oasis and I will be coming back for more! :)Show moreTrip date: September 2012

- David· August 21st, 2012Oasis Overland isn’t a household name in Australia and you only tend to hear about Oasis from people that have travelled with them before. Each and every person who has travelled with them absolutely loves them! I was referred to Oasis by my soon to be sister in law who did the coast to coast overland a few years ago and raved about it. My now fiancé (I proposed on the trip… sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti!!) and I planned our trip two years prior and made some big sacrifices to make travelling for 3 months possible. So as you can image we had massive expectations. Expectations I didn’t think any company could ever meet. Oasis not only met my expectations, they blew them away! From the very first correspondence to the end of the trip and beyond everyone involved within Oasis were amazing. As I was planning to propose to my girlfriend on the trip I emailed Oasis prior to my trip to discuss ideas/locations for the proposal. I was amazed by the amount of help I received. Not only help but genuine interest and excitement in my situation. You won’t find that service anywhere else. Once the trip started Malcolm (tour leader at the time) pulled me aside to discuss some ideas further. The entire crews help was beyond what I could have ever asked and made my dream proposal possible. I can’t thank them enough. We were lucky enough to have 4 crew members at different points of the trip who were all fantastic. The majority of the trip was with Grace as tour leader and Malcolm as TRUCK driver after Iain left in Zimbabwe to start his silk road adventure. I not only regard the crew as great people who are fantastic at their jobs but also as close friends who enjoyed the trip as much as anyone. Oasis crew are everyday down to earth people who have all done the trips as passengers so they know firsthand what passengers want from an overland tour. They too just want to have a good time and enjoy the trip just as much as you or I. It's the simple things the crew does every day that make the trip unforgettable. Things like ‘The Game Of Life’, ‘3 Second Rule’, ‘Truck Olympics’, ‘Assassin’. It’s these simple things that create memories of a lifetime. If you’re looking for the adventure of your life and reading this you are on the right track. If your wondering if Africa is the right destination... don't! It's the most amazing Continent on earth! You just have to do the trip to find out why as it just can't be explained. There is something about Africa... when she grabs hold.. she never lets go! Book an Oasis trip… It will be the best decision you’ll ever make!!!Show moreTrip date: April 2012
