Fees for Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Park fees for Ngorongoro Conservation Area vary significantly depending on what you'll be doing while in the park and how you'll be travelling through the area. The following table breaks down the daily prices for foreign visitors, by age. There are additional fees to be paid for things like vehicle entry and camping, which can be avoided if you opt for a group tour where these costs are often included. Fees are paid onsite at the gate (Loduare gate if coming from Arusha or Naabi Hill gate if coming from Serengeti).

How much does it cost to go to Ngorongoro?

  • Accommodation

Staying inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is possible, but the cost of accommodation can vary in price significantly. Typically accommodation ranges from $200 to $1,000 per person a night. Rates mainly depend on the season and type of accommodation. Sleeping in a tent and camping instead of a luxury lodge will also save you a lot of money.
  • Tour guide

Professional English speaking guides are almost always included in the price of a safari tour. We recommended against driving the park yourself as signage is often missing and you may have a difficult time communicating with other drivers. Booking a safari with a tour guide will enhance your experience significantly thanks to their intimate knowledge of the area.
  • Meals

Typically, safari packages include all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). However, we always recommend personally verifying this information by reading through the "what's included" section on the page of your preferred tour.
  • Transportation

For those travelling on a safari tour, the typical transportation is a 4x4 game drive vehicle with a pop-up roof, ideal for spotting animals. Prices for renting a car vary a lot and are mostly only available in big cities like Arusha (about a 3.5-hour drive from the conservation area).
  • Park fees

Before travelling to the gates of Ngorongoro, make sure you have enough money set aside for your park admission! Park admission fees are set per person, per day, although occasionally tour groups can set less-expensive rates for their travellers. Your park fee will be valid for 24 hours.
  • Tipping

Tipping is expected while on a safari, and the typical amount is set at approximately $10 USD per person, per day for guides, and $5 USD per person, per day for trackers. Depending on the tour you join, tipping may be included in the overall price. Nonetheless, we recommend bringing extra cash as a precaution.
