Back in 1989, two guys from Melbourne, Australia by the names of Darrell and Manch set off on an adventure to the other side of the world. They travelled to Africa and without air conditioning on their modified truck, they filled it with supplies, some beer, a bunch of aviator sunglasses, and...

For my first independent travel, especially with there being a group of us, as someone who has struggled to make friends in the past, I was rather skeptical to see how things would pan out. But what an unbelievable experience! From Conquering mountainous hikes, to tackling Europe's largest glacier. I have made the bestest of friends, friends for life, and our tour guide Tomi was amazing. Very approachable and helpful. Therefore, for first time travellers, I could not recommend this trip enough. 10/10 Oliver Chappell

Special thanks to Jónas Ingi for being a fun, thoughtful, and caring Islandic Tour Guide. Without him this trip would never happen. Highlights: - Brennivin, the Icelandic spirit, is a really good, tastes like vodka - Lots of driving once you leave the city. The roads are good, but once you get off it, the terrains are rough. I don’t recommend getting a car by yourself, because some of these crossings are through rivers which only big busses can do. Instead, go with a tour guide company that covers transportation, hostels, and camping equipment. I went with @tourradar and overall had a great experience. - Once you get out of the city, you’re in a Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones scenery. Iceland has many beautiful waterfalls and complicated mountain ranges split by grass, rock, and snow; sunlight and clouds - They have Geysirs – periodically spouting hot springs caused by earthquakes - Lagoons – geothermal spas, they have atleast 3. I went to one called the “Secret Lagoon”, where You chill in a natural warm pool that protects you from the rain while you have a beer - You can’t start fires, unfortunately - Hikes up the mountain are steep from the beginning and are tough throughout, but are worthwhile - You can drink from their rivers, it is clean and tastes really good, I was amazed - Iceland is riddled with Norse folklore; they had these cute little houses for the elves everywhere - Did a 3-hour glacier hike where I drank water the Viking way to keep me young for life - Game of Thrones style beaches characterized by black-sand, rocks, and green pastures - Fjords - a U-shaped inlet of land, carved out or formed by a glacier tongue - Saw puffins, sheep, and herding dogs who aren’t allowed inside the house until very recently - Tried fermented shark - Solheimasandur, a 45 min hike into nowhere where a US Navy plane crashed in 1973 with no deaths, abandoned on a beach. Bieber filmed his skateboarding scene here in his “I’ll Show You” vid

This trip had a lot of “firsts” for me. First time camping, doing a group tour, out of the country..so I have nothing to compare it to, but I had an awesome experience. Jónas was an excellent tour guide. Very knowledgable about Icelandic history, easy-going and has a great sense of humor.
