- SKSamatha· June 19th, 2019I had to cancel the tour on the morning of the trip. Peter was not on time. Although late only by 5min. He came with a porter Eric. Eric’s breath smelled alcohol and this was 7am. The car for transport was small to accommodate four people which included the driver and the three of us. It was a two door tiny hatch back. I refused to sit besides Eric in the back seat. So, had to insist on sitting in the front passenger seat. Inside of the car was dirty. A cloth placed to cover the seat seemed unwashed and dirty. Once we got on the road, I noticed the driver coughing constantly. A wet cough. He looked sickly. Being a physician, I just didn’t feel right about the drivers health. Thought of TB crossed my mind. Eric started talking to me from the back tapping on my shoulder suddenly. It felt unsettling. Here I was driving in a car with three strangers, all men, one of whom smelled like he was drunk and the other sickly. I had to travel in the car for about 3-4h. After driving about 6-7minutes, I had to tell them to turnaround and take me back to the lodge. Peter’s was not very reassuring although he didn’t seem to be problematic himself. When I got to the lodge, I had the manager and another caretaker talk to them just to gauge whether my feeling was unreasonable. They too felt the same about Eric. I didn’t want to spend my next four days with this group. I also didn’t expect that I was driving alone. And that meeting other tourists wouldn’t be till we get to the camps. As there was none else except me till I get there, and since I didn’t feel that my physical and health safety were my major concerns, I told Peter that I had to cancel on him. I was unable to call you guys immediately since cellular access and network were limited to call outside of Kenya. I just got to London in transit and am reporting his now. This is my first opportunity to do this. I was in Kenya for a medical mission trip and some meetings with other non profit organizations. So, took care of those and heading back. In summary, the local tour operator needs better evaluation for quality of transport and his crew before tourists are assigned. Clear understanding of the itinerary unassuming of the tourists understanding of the tour must be provided. I would like to talk to someone from TourRadar. I expect a refund for my trip. I had to pay another local company later that day as recommended by the lodge and went on the trip and it was a great experience. Hope to hear from you via email first and then we can setup a time to talk. Looking forward to talking.Show moreTrip date: June 2019
