- AExplorer· December 23rd, 2019This was our first tour experience with EXPLORE. I found it to be a wonderful organisation to travel with; I;m sorry I didn't happen upon you earlier in my travels. I enjoyed the activity/climbing involved. I can't imagine experiencing the Great Wall in any other way. That being said, I think the activity rating of this trip should be Challenging rather than Moderate. This was not a "walk" of the Great Wall; this was a climb. I think a more accurate description would be:' 60% spent climbing steep ascents; 20% descending steep ascents, and 20% walking on level surfaces. I also think a video clip should be attached to your website going over some of the ascents and descents to give people a more accurate picture of the climb. The walk/trek was challenging, but I would do it all over again. There's just no other way to see the Great Wall as we did. Our guide, Key, also provided some opportunities to obtain some memorable momentos of our trip--the Beijing picture album, personalised chops . Key also did a wonderful job in arranging our meals. He arranged our evening meals ahead of time, so when we arrived at the restaurant, our food began appearing within 5 minutes of our being seated. There was no waiting for our meals. A very nice arrangement. Most of the members of our tour were beer drinkers; I am not; I drink Coke when I travel. Key always made sure that I had my bottle of Coke. A good example of his strong attention to detail. Finally, as I mentioned earlier, my husband and I arrived a day earlier to acclimate. I had hoped to visit the MING tombs that first day. I contacted several people at EXPLORE to see if a guide or driver could be arranged as the tombs are approx 35 km outside of Beijing. No one could help me make arrangements ahead of time. I still don't understand why I couldn't have been put in touch with Key or an EXPLORE contact in Beijing to help me make these arrangements ahead of time. When I initially met Key the first morning of our trip, he attempted to arrange a driver but was unable to given the short notice. I think with the advance notice I had supplied, there was enough time to make arrangements. Had I been given a contact name, i would have been happy to try to make arrangements on my own. Not a big deal; just a suggestion. Again, this was the trip of a lifetime for me. Thank you, EXPLORE, for making it happen.Show more

- ADavid· May 17th, 2019I think you need to include more information about the walking element of this tour. It probably just scrapes in as a moderate tour but there needs to be some emphasis placed on the amount of climbing and descending, there are not really any level sections and although short a lot of the climbs/descents are steep. - AHayley· May 17th, 2019Wow! What an amazing experience! The trekking was worth it for the magical scenery of the Great Wall. As well as seeing the Great Wall it was great to experience the Chinese culture and to interact with the local people. Overall I’d rate the trip as excellent, it was more than I ever expected.
