View in EnglishThe guides were good, but the organization and especially the communication were catastrophic. The plan we received in advance was not adhered to at all. We were only five people in total, which was very pleasant, but the organizer still failed to put us on a train, on a plane and in a hotel. We had to complain several times and the whole group was very disappointed. It started, for example, with the fact that the tour did not start at the Navruz Hotel as agreed but at Inspira S. We had to drive there at our own expense (!) to wait almost an hour for the guide because the tour was postponed from 9:30 am to 10 am without informing us. The option to take the train from Samarkand to Bukhara was never mentioned, so we lost a whole day just for the ride. We were supposed to stop for lunch, which didn't happen etc etc. This lack of organization and communication continued throughout the week. Every day there were problems, A was said, B was done, making a stress free vacation impossible. We can NOT recommend Steppe Journeys and would not book with this tour operator again. There were glitches in the organisation but any issues were quickly resolved. So overall I was satisfied. The hotels were of varying quality but satisfactory. The Inspira S in Tashkent was excellent and the hotel in Khiva was right in the old city and was in itself an ancient madrassah which was a unique experience. At Steppe Journeys, everyone is very helpful, responsive and reliable, from initial pick up to final departure. Drivers, guides and office supports. I like the itinerary of the tour. In a week, it touched all major sights of the country, without feeling being rushed. I also enjoyed the free time to explore the cities on my own. The Guides are very knowledgeable and share their personal experiences being local. The drivers are all very skillful in managing the local road (sometimes tough) efficiently and safely. - MPMatti· August 31st, 2024Very well organized tour. We had different guides in each city and all of them were highly knowledgeable and spoke good English. Special thanks to the guide in Khive ("Sara"). Your passion to spread of knowledge was overwhelming and you genuinely seem to care about your customers. I wish we had such dedicated employees in the company I'm working for. Regarding the details of the program, the first day in Tashkent was a bit rough since we landed 7:00 pm in the morning and the tour started immediately after reaching of the hotel and ended around 4:00 pm. After the 10 hours night flight, it was not always easy to stay focused, or even wake despite the interesting tour in the city. On the other hand, some of the tours in other cities were finished around 1:00 pm.
