In my 6 day private, custom-designed tour I had guides of pure Romanian descent, a Saxon guide who took me around an historically German area, and a Hungarian Romanian with whom I toured areas which, up until World War 1 were part of Hungary. My visit also included a stop with a family of Roma (Gypsy) metal craftsmen, as well as a couple of other artisans elsewhere in Transylvania. I ate local foods, stayed in locally-owned hotels (at my request), and overall had a fun and fascinating tour. Vlad of Romanian Thrills took time to understand my interests and budget, and put together a great tour. The hidden gems of this hidden gem of a country. If it is your first trip to Romania I can not recommend them strongly enough, as an American who has lived in Romania for over 4 years, I still found MASSIVE benefit in the local knowledge and expertise. If they can make my experience better, they can certainly make anybodies better! Great insight into the history of every place we visited along with being the last to bed and the first awake to make sure everything ran smoothly. I always try and gives pros and cons with a review, so in the interest of fairness... Vlad didnt finish his cigar! Besides that. Perfect! Every aspect of the tour authentically reflects the country, from watching the demonstration of a cooper making barrels (along with our participating), local guides providing brilliant tours, extraordinary accommodations that reflect the local culture, to carefully selected restaurants. Georgiana and Vlad's extensive knowledge of Romanian history is impressive; they are articulate, spontaneous, and keep in mind your special requests. We travelled for 2 weeks across the country and stayed in exquisite villas, guesthouses or estates everywhere we went. I particularly enjoyed participating in various workshops specific to the area (the cooper in Harale or miller in Cernat). The food was great and the Vlad and Georgiana really made my experience true and extraordinary through their level of attention to detail! Also, loved the little souvenirs I kept receiving along the trip. They showed us castles, hiking trails, wine tastings and amazing food. One of my favorite days was in Viscri when we got to create our own souvenir at a local blacksmith workshop. In Viscri is also where Prince Charles’s spends his summer holidays. Very cool.
