Back in 1989, two guys from Melbourne, Australia by the names of Darrell and Manch set off on an adventure to the other side of the world. They travelled to Africa and without air conditioning on their modified truck, they filled it with supplies, some beer, a bunch of aviator sunglasses, and...

The tour route was good (covered a lot of UNESCO sites) - the bad rating was for the tour guides experience. Most of the local guides' English were very hard to understand - we have met many foreign guides in our previous tours and understood that English are their 2nd (or maybe 3rd or 4th) language - but these local guides were exceptionally hard to understand... As for our guide leader - at the very first day and first hour we met, she wanted to setup some "guidelines and rules" on the gratuity: how do we handle the gratuity - by individual or elect a team leader to collect our gratuity - she even offered to give us an envelope to collect the gratuity. Further, she listed the daily minimum gratuity in her handout to make sure we understand how/who to tip... During the entire trip, there was hardly any introduction on the local area we visited - she indicated she will "leave that to the local guides". There was one stop that she just let us out of the bus and point to a direction and told us we have 15 minutes to visit, without any local guides. To this date, I still don't know what/where were we looking at... At one lunch spot she took us to (this was a not-included lunch, we have to pay the lunch) which she referred was one of the people she's acquainted to - the toilet condition was absolutely filthy (we have seen many dirty toilets in foreign countries and believe me, this was a filthy toilet) I don't even want to know what's the condition of the kitchen. Her demeanor was curt and borderline rude - never a thank-you or please. At the mid point of the trip, we told her that we really didn't appreciate her attitude and since then the interaction with her was awkward and uncomfortable - she would announce driving time and destination when we get on the bus in the morning, told us how many minutes we can stay at each destination, told us when was the meal time - for the included dinners, she was either late or didn't show up at the dinner. The list goes on and on... A good tour guide makes the difference of the travel experience - we tried our best to enjoy the tour and ignore her unprofessional attitude but needless to say, our experience was definitely tainted.
