My friend and I booked a private tour to Morocco through Tilila Tours on the TourRadar site. We contacted the operator, Mohamed, via chat on the TourRadar site and he responded immediately as to our wanting a 2 person tour with 4 star hotels for the 11 Day tour. He got back with me within 24 hrs and had worked most of the hotels for us and designed the tour based on just two people. Within 2 weeks, all our questions had been answered and we made our initial payments. After our final payment, the Moroccan earthquake occurred and we were able to reschedule our tour. Mohamed worked everything out for us and he rescheduled us 6 months later as we requested. He was never out of touch and worked diligently to get our tour as originally planned. Everything on our tour was as expected with a great driver, Yassin, and good tour guides in the various places we visited. I can’t explain enough how in touch Mohamed was throughout our to insure our satisfaction. Great job, from planning to the final drop off at the airport.

What an incredible experience! Morocco truly holds a special place in every aspect, from its people to the cuisine, the captivating sites, and rich history—making our trip unforgettable. Mohamed from Tilila Travel, curated a uniquely exceptional experience for us; we coordinated the locations and timing, and he delivered a five-star service. Beginning our journey in Casablanca, the moment Yassin picked us up from the airport in a comfortable van, we sensed the excellence that awaited us throughout the trip. Yassin proved to be the trip's greatest asset, excelling as a driver—cautious, responsible, and, most importantly, punctual at every stage of the journey. Exploring a total of nine places, we truly immersed ourselves in every little corner, including Casablanca, Rabat, Fes, Chefchaouen, Merzouga, and the Sahara Desert (love my camel from the camel ride), Valley of Dades, Marrakesh, and Essaouira. Chefchaouen, camping in the Desert, and Essaouira emerged as my personal favorites. Now, let's talk about the food – oh my God, it was absolutely fantastic, fresh, and incredibly tasty. The tagine, the couscous, the lamb, the bread, the incredibly tasty olive oil – everything was delicious. If I were to change something, it would probably be the timing of our visit. I'd consider returning in March since we missed out on the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in a pool or the ocean due to the temperature.

Overall the tour was good. The driver was nice and friendly. He gave some information about each city and was available if we had any issues while we were by ourselves. The car was comfortable. Overall the hotels were good. I love the riad at Fez and the breakfast at Chefchaouen. Two things could be improved. The first is that the company communicates at the beginning of the tour any changes to the itinerary, what to expect each day, and recommendations (i.e., having coins for tips, the need for scarves for riding the camels, buying bottled water, etc.). The second thing is that I wish there were more stops along the way in the long drives.

This is both a review of this amazing tour company and some friendly advice about taking a trip to Morocco in general. My husband and I took this tour starting on June 9th, 2023, touring for 11 days with Hassan. Hassan was PHENOMENAL! First, I was worried that the tour would not run if there were no others who signed up for the same dates. I was assured the tour would run if only me and my husband touring and this promise was kept! This tour ended up being a private one, with Hassan as our guide for the full 11 days, for no extra cost! There were several other local guides as promised as well, in the various cities, like Amad in Fes and Ousama in Marrakesh, and they were exceptional as well. We have been many places-- Senegal, France, Belgium, Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Canada, Japan, China, Spain, a bit of Portugal, South Africa and to 35 of the 50 US states, including Alaska. For overall amazement, Morocco was the best! It is a full sensory experience, with amazing sites, sounds, smells, tastes and textures. We did so much on this tour that I can't even list all of the incredible parts of the trip! I took 8,000 photos and had 300 videos and they still don't fully capture all of the fun! However, I did not do enough research on the terrain-- this trip involves LOTS of walking up mountains and hills-- they are steep and plentiful. Hassan would have a porter for the luggage, which was great, but you will need to make sure you can handle the steep terrain, and the fact that Morocco is not like the US so there are not many regulations about providing handrails, etc., as most of what you are seeing and where you walk is built in the 11th or 12th century! It is worth the risk, but be sure you can handle lots of uphill, then steep downhill walking, and have comfortable shoes. Morocco is a very large country and we wanted to see as much as possible. Hassan not only drove us all over the country, but he answered about a thousand questions that we had, as we like to learn and understand about the various cultures, plants, architecture, etc. Hassan had an answer for every question, and was kind and delightful throughout the trip. We really enjoyed his knowledge and his company, but most of all, we felt safe with him. Most of the tour feels safe overall. Certainly, you need to be cautious wherever you go-- lord knows America has issues with violence. Marrakesh is a place where, during your free time, you need to exercise caution. The vendors are more assertive and we did not feel like it was the safest at night compared to the other cities and villages. We did venture out for a meal but it was within a short range from our riad (the amazing hotels in the medinas-- try in stay in as many as possible as you won't find anything like this in the US!). This trip was organized well, with many fun stops along the way. You will see many different types of medinas, all super -alive and interesting-- so worth it, so go and walk in every one that is offered. We went to many palaces, kasbah's,and we stayed in beautiful riad's-- again lovely parts of this trip. The distance between the cities is long so if you take this tour, you will be in a vehicle for many hours of the trip. We enjoyed the time, as it was an opportunity to talk with Hassan, rest, listen to nice music and we had the windows open as we wanted the nice Moroccan air, so it was heaven for us. But there are days where you are riding for 8 hours always with interesting stops. This is a trip where you will need to go the bank almost immediately to get change. The Moroccan currency is dirhams and when we went, the American dollar was worth 10X the dirham. When you go, Hassan or the guides will tell you to tip in coins, which is like 10 cents or 50 cents in American money. I suggest you tip more, as this is a tipping culture and American's who travel have the money to tip. Tipping well to those in Morocco could range from American $2 and up for those who help you in any way, like carrying the luggage or serving you a meal. Certainly we tipped as well as we could, as the people there make so much less than we do in wages. I certainly suggest tipping the local guides at least $50 American dollars and the overall guide at least $400 to $500. They really work hard and this trip is amazingly reasonable. We were very grateful to see so much, in a nice SUV, with such a wonderful man. Be prepared to use cash as most vendors and even many restaurants won't take credit cards. Once we figured this out, we went to the ATM, took out more cash, then went directly to a bank to get the money in lower increments. Then you might even have to buy a few little things to break down the dirhams to even lower increments for tipping and bargaining in the market (souks). We also suggest that you bring "neck fans" that you can buy on Amazon. There are places where you will be very hot so even having moving air is helpful. These fans, that are chargeable and can be adjusted in many ways but also can be worn on your neck, were the remedy to this problem. We rode camels in the Sahara Desert, stayed in the desert camp-- all AMAZING! The camp does not tell you that you can only use the air conditioning if you pay an additional $30 per person so here is an example of how having 2 neck fans saved the day. The camp and the camel ride are probably my top experiences on this trip as these are experiences we don't think we will ever have again, and they are so fun and felt so adventurous. We went into so many fantastic mountains, ate wonderful meals, snacks and drinks, we met amazing people who were friendly with most even speaking English, and were immersed in the wonders of Morocco thanks to Hassan! We visited the incredible mosque in Casablanca as our first tour there and it just set the pace for the whole trip. So much intricate tile, plaster and wood work-- and amazing decorative doors and windows everywhere-- that your mind cannot even take in all of the beauty! We walked from 6 to 8 miles on average each day, even with the long treks in the vehicle. Everything was so exciting so you don't even notice the total mileage, but on some days, your body will notice how mountainous it is so be ready. We thought seeing so much, even with walking so much up and down so much, with so so many steps all over, was just great. And we are retirement age and not in shape.. I believe Mohamed owns this company and he coordinated a great trip! Before the trip, he was very responsive to all of my messages via Tourradar. He also sent messages via WhatsApp as well, so we felt very prepared. On this trip, you will need to carry toilet paper-- no biggie and don't let that stop you from going on this trip. You also need lots of tipping change-- again, I suggest low bills along with coins-- but really-- go right to a bank when you get there. Have lots of sunscreen as it can be very hot if you go in June, with most days being 95 degrees or hotter. We had several days that were around 102-105 degrees.. Also, go and get a sim card at the airport. I had a new iPhone, a 14 Pro Max, and I bought an e-Sim before the trip and it did not work well at all, which was a problem. My husband had an XR iPhone (a 9), and Hassan was amazing and bought him a physical Sim card so we had cell service so that was really terrific that Hassan helped us with that. He reloaded the Sim card for us several times, even at the end of our tour when we contacted him from Tangier (not on the tour). I would also suggest that women in particular, are a bit modest. I wore shorts -- not "short shorts!"-- and you don't see the local women doing that, so that was even a stretch. I was not feeling judged, but let me say to women, it felt very disrespectful in my opinion to see women showing cleavage- or more-- and having bellies showing. This is not America where you can walk around naked and feel like it is your right. Be more modest and respect the basics of Moroccan religious and cultural values. Back to Hassan--he was just a treat-- a total bonus! As he would say to our requests-- "no problem," He was a younger man with an older, mature soul-- very knowledgeable and smart, very proud of his Berber culture which we really loved about him. He was responsible as he was very aware of safety issues so as to keep us most safe. We just really enjoyed being with him for this tour. He met us right when we exited the airport and was with us to our last train ride, literally helping us put the luggage on the train and get us to our seats. Since we were going to Tangier after end of the tour, we opted for Hassan to drive us from the last city back to Marrakesh, then we ride the train from Marrakesh to Casablanca, where the tour was scheduled to end.. I need to tell you to have as much mint tea, olives and orange juice--all the the best we have had in the world-- and fruit while there! It is beyond that of any place we have visited. Delicious! We have never seen as many sheep, goats and donkeys so that was very fun! Be ready or communicate when you are not interested in visiting markets or buying so much. We know from past trips that guides take you places where you might want to buy things-- this is great when you are into those types of goods. I think it is great to see the various things that are produced, but know that you might feel pressured to buy things like expensive rugs or elaborate tables or ceramics, from local cooperatives. I think these places are worth seeing once. Be sure to let the guide know that you only want to visit one rug store-- there is an amazing sales pitch that I think is worth seeing but be ready to say no if you are not interested. It is worse than car sales in America, but they need to do their best to sell to Americans who have so much disposable income compared to those in Morocco. We also went to the famous tannery that you see on YouTube. Also incredible as the work is so traditional and difficult and the leather goods are so lovely. This was the lowest point of the trip as we realized later that the prices quoted were 10X more on the receipt. We were quoted $35 for several belts and a very small hand-held purse-- still a high cost in their money (dirhams) so this seemed reasonable- and the receipt was for $350 (dollars, not dirhams). Things were happening fast and we just did not notice this while there so be very careful with your purchases at the tannery. Certainly go and see this-- it is a must-- but we just missed this difference until we got home and reviewed all of our receipts online. We are disputing this charge with our credit card company. This was not an issue that is in any way connected to Hassan or the tour company, just something to note so you are more careful in reviewing the credit card receipt before you sign. I have to say that when we left Morocco for Spain, Spain almost seemed boring to us. We saw the same type of architecture, and some of the same type of goods, but at a much slower pace. This is because Morocco is so incredible, the tour was organized well and Hassan took extra efforts to show us things and places not always even outlined in the tour brochure! We held little foxes, my husband held an eagle, we went to an amazing Kasbah not on the tour, and made so many little stops that I think Hassan added because he knew how interested we were in seeing as much and learning as much as possible. Hassan is the type of person that you want to be friends with after the tour-- and I am sure his clients all feel this way. We did have to contact him after the tour, to get help with reading Arabic as we bought a few things that were in Arabic, and he responded via WhatsApp even several weeks after the trip. I highly recommend this trip with this company! I would ask for Hassan for sure, as he is the absolute best! There is no way to share how much this trip meant to my husband and I. We had not traveled for 8 years and wanted to restart our travel life again, post-covid. This was so perfect for us on all levels-- it will be difficult to top! It has really filled our souls right now and we are grateful for Mohamed's bookings and for having Hassan as such a WONDERFUL GUIDE! Thank you for such amazing memories! My husband and I have been back for a month and we talk about this trip every day!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Tilila! My mother and I travelled for 10 days through Morocco and Mohammed took care of absolutely everything. His service and attention to detail was above and beyond any of our expectations. He created a perfect, customized itinerary that lets us experience and learn so much about the country. The entire time in the hands of our amazing driver Abdullah who became a close friend through our trip as well as all of the wonderful local guides that were arranged throughout the trip. The accommodations were carefully thought out and customized to fit all of our wants and needs during the stay. If you are looking for a company and people who truly care about the experience they help to provide than look no further than this. Thank you Mohammed and all of the kind and gracious people of Morocco for helping creat memories that will last a lifetime.
