- Sonia· January 11th, 2025The communication, organisation and flexibility was good. I hated the early morning starts sometimes as early as 4.30am especially with jetlag and that they seemed unnecessary. The first 4.30am start included a long lunch (food was bland) and a pisco / pecan farm tourShow moreWaman Adventures commented on this reviewDear Sonia Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. - JPJessica· October 14th, 2024Overall, the tour was well organized. As many other people have said, go with people, especially if you're a woman. You are with just or guide or 30 other people and a guide depending on the tour, and it is helpful to break the awkwardness with another person. The tours with larger groups are Day 2, 6, 7, 8, & 9. Starting with Lima, I wish we had skipped a day. Lima has not a lot to do or see, and Day 2 was only worth it for the Oasis and sand boarding. So, if the sand buggy was in the morning/afternoon and the Lima city tour was in the late afternoon, then it would been a good day. I just would have enjoyed it if I had an extra day in Cusco. Also, the hotel, Hotel Miramar, they have for Lima was okay. The air conditioner in the room is so loud, the water pressure sucks, and the third bed we had in our room was basically a coffin with how much it sank if you laid down. I would recommend upgrading this hotel to a better hotel or seeing if they can switch it for you. Cusco was great. Fortunately for me, I don't get altitude sickness, but it would have been better to have done a morning flight from Lima to Cusco. That being said, one guy we met did schedule a flight that left in the morning, and he did get dropped off at the airport 2 hours before his flight departed. He ended up missing his flight (and paying over $100 to get on the next flight) and had 7 hours in the airport until the next flight because checking a bag and security took so long. Therefore, if you do decide to do a morning flight, make sure you get there 3 hours in advance. Tandapata Hotel in Cusco was my absolute favorite. The rooms are big, the staff is so friendly, the water pressure is amazing, it is in a great location, and their breakfast is so good (get the waffles and rolls). Be prepared to walk up a hill to the hotel as well. The city center is down a large one lined with a bunch of shops. There are so many good restaurants and shops, you cannot go wrong. I do wish that we went right to Machu Picchu since we had one night in Cusco, then one night in Aguas Caliente, then 3 more nights in Cusco. I would have rather have just made it to Aguas Caliente on Day 3 if possible, have done Machu Picchu the following day. We hiked Mount Machu Picchu, Lake Humantay, and Rainbow Mountain back to back to back, so it would have been nice having a rest day and 4 nights consecutively in the same hotel. Machu Picchu was beautiful and it was so great having a private guide to take us around. Just make sure you know Mount Machu Picchu hike is hard. Very hard. All stairs for a mile and at least 1300 ft elevation gain. And you are limited to 4 hours. I am pretty sure these were mixed up when we went to pick which one we did. I think Huayna Picchu was the other option which looks like a hill from the top of Mount Machu Picchi, so definitely do that one if you need an easier option. For Rainbow Mountain, I suggest leaving an hour later than they currently have. MY group took horses up, and when we made it up, it was super foggy. You couldn't make out the colors well. You also can't wait it out since it's around 17,000 ft altitude and if you stay up there too long, you get dizzy and have a chance of getting hypothermia. I got dizzy, so I had to go down after 40 minutes so I didn't pass out. If we had been up there an hour later, the sky would have been clear enough. Even if you read online, they say it clears up after the morning, so the tour agency should have known to go up later to avoid being in a cloud that obstructs your view. Day 8 should give people the option to have a tour bus take you through the 5 stops, that I found unnecessary, or to go straight to Puno. Especially after hiking 3 days in a row, having to stop made more irritated with every stop. I wish we had the morning in Cusco, got lunch in Cusco, had a straight 5 hr drive to Puno and then ate dinner there. The stops were just fillers in my opinion. If you are travelling as a group of 3, be ready for the hotel room in Puno (Qalasaya inn). We had 3 beds with about 5 inches between them, and barely enough floor room to fit our suitcases. I saw bigger 3-bed rooms on their website, but we literally got a 2-bed room with a third bed stuffed in the room. The last day was most frustrating. They do not give you an option on what domestic flight you get back to Lima. We had a 1pm flight to Lima, landed at 2:30pm, and then had to wait 8 and a half hours for our international flight back. One girl on Day 9 with us had a 9am flight to Lima, and had to wait even longer since her flight left at 11pm as well. If we had known there was an earlier flight or even was given an option, we would have flown back to Lima in the morning, and then had an afternoon international flight. It was ridiculous how little control we had over the domestic flights. I do have to note that there is a guy, Leoned, that would let you know the night before what time you had to be leaving. I wish it would have been the morning before. I just would like to know earlier than the night before what time I had to be up the following day. He also was kind of bad at sending the messages. We had to remind him once and he gave us the wrong message twice. Overall, if I were to do this again, I would want to plan out the 10 days by myself. They have 1-day tours on their website that I would do that would give me the freedom of picking my own domestic flights, bus to Puno, and hotels. I am confident that you could plan this on your own to save money and have a more enjoyable trip.Show moreWaman Adventures commented on this reviewDear Jessica Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed insights about your recent tour. - AKAlina· October 14th, 2024Although jam-packed, this was overall a great tour and a convenient way to see all that Peru had to offer! I would recommend it if you’re already traveling with others, but would be weary if you’re a solo traveler since the group of people that you’re with as well as the tour guide varies everyday. The longest we had the same guide was for days 4 and 5, where Herlin traveled to aguas calientes with my group and then gave us a private Machu Picchu tour. He was helpful with logistics and informative about the history! The guides for humantay lake and rainbow mountain, Freddy and JC, were also informative and helpful with solutions for altitude sickness. Speaking of altitude sickness, if you’re considering hiking on the Machu Picchu day you should beware that Machu Picchu mountain is actually longer and steeper than huayna Picchu despite the description for this addition seemingly saying otherwise. We found ourselves exhausted after hiking it within a 4hr time limit, so I’m not sure that I’d recommend the addition considering that the next two days also have strenuous hikes at high altitudes. In hindsight, I’d have saved my energy for the following two days. For day 3, I’d recommend requesting an earlier flight so that you can spend the rest of the day in Cusco acclimating (something we didn’t get to do since we landed later). Lastly, for day 10, I’d consider checking with waman adventures to see what your domestic flight time options are before booking the international flight (we blindly followed the after 19:00 recommendation and ended up having an unnecessarily long ~8hr layover). With all our questions and concerns, the company was quick with responding when we messaged both before and after booking. Overall, I think this tour was well organized and worth the somewhat marked up price tag due to the convenience of having everything planned out for you. Thanks for a great trip!Show moreWaman Adventures commented on this reviewDear Alina Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed feedback! - ESEmily· October 14th, 2024Overall this 10 day trip was really enjoyable and so worth it! That being said there are a few things that I think need more clarification in the description for the trip. The wake up calls were earlier than specified, and as some other reviews note, about half of the days are 3am wake up calls. Something else to note is that the tour group changes day to day. My friends and I booked together so we were all together doing the same activities everyday but besides that the group changed day to day, instead of being in a big group that was together for the duration of the 10 days. Same with the tour guides. Depending on the activity/day, the tour guide was different everyday. They were all great tour guides but something to note. The longest we had the same tour guide was for 2 days (Machu Picchu). The accommodations were nice, especially the one in Cusco. I think the flights could have been handled better, as we ended up waiting in the airport to return home for 8 hours because the flight to Lima was an afternoon flight so we could not book an earlier flight back to our home destination. Also with the flights, I wished we would have been told earlier if we had the option to change the domestic flights in Peru, since we didn’t get a full day in Cusco which would have been nice. As far as communication goes the company was quick to respond to any questions me or my friends had both before and during the trip. We were told the next days plan everyday which was helpful since the full run down and suggestions for what to pack were included. One note on this is we wished these communications had been sent earlier on the days prior since we were usually getting these notes in the afternoon/evening and it would have been better for planning free time to have the plan earlier in the morning. All the activities were unforgettable experiences and accommodating. Some of the hiking was more difficult but for the lake day and the rainbow mountain day horses were available which was a nice option to have for those who were unable to do the hikes. On the hiking days where there was no plan after I do wish we were allowed more time for hiking since I personally felt the time constraint limited my ability to hike which I would have liked, but having the accommodation to still see the sights was nice. My friends and I also decided to do the Machu Picchu mountain hike, which I only got halfway through before turning around for difficulty. Definitely do your research for the hikes so you are prepared for what to expect. The description for that hike was that it was easier than the other option but it surely was not from what we were told by others afterwards. I think this trip was a great way to see beautiful parts of Peru and learn more about the history/culture. The tour guides also were very knowledgeable and made things easier since they took care of a lot of the details, and were always willing to answer any questions we had. As I mentioned in the first line, overall this trip was so well worth it and the duration was pretty perfect. A rest day in between the three intense hiking days (Machu Picchu (which was optional), Humantay Lake and Rainbow Mountain) would have been nice but seeing all these beautiful sights made it all worth it in the end. If you are looking for a trip to see Peru, I would recommend this one!Show moreWaman Adventures commented on this reviewDear Emily Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback!
