- RTREDDY· January 20th, 2025Hiking Kilimanjaro was an amazing challenge, and we truly couldn’t have done it without the Great Lake Expedition team. My brother and I wanted to take my 69 year old father on a father and sons outdoors trip. We decided to stretch for hiking to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro. My father is in great shape for his age, but is still old for this type of climb, so we wanted to ensure we had an experienced team supporting us. The Great Lake Expedition team was helpful through the entire experience, from the 80+ emails I sent coordinating the trip and several changes to the itinerary, to the amazing on the ground team of guides and porters. Even the food was actually quite good, which surprised us given how far we were from Moshi/Arusha. They were fun and cheerful when they could be, and immediately flipped to decisive, experienced professionals when they needed to be. They gave us a lot of confidence that we would all be safe on this journey. The Marangu route was incredibly beautiful, and really highlighted the diverse eco systems of the mountain. Each day was well planned out in terms of distance and elevation gain. On the summit night, the Great Lake Expedition team carefully monitored us all, especially our father, and supported him both up and down the mountain to ensure his safety. As he displayed signs of AMS after reaching Uhuru Peak, the lead guide quickly took him down the mountain to ensure his safety, and he quickly regained his balance and strength. Hiking Kilimanjaro is definitely not for the faint of heart. It’s by far the hardest physical challenge I’ve ever done. And even with the incredible support of the Great Lake Expedition team, it was definitely a stretch for a 69 year old man. But if you are up for the task, you won’t regret the journey!Show moreTrip date: January 2025
- VMVANESSA· January 3rd, 2025I would highly recommend traveling with Great Lake Expedition My husband and I traveled with a group of friends, all of us have traveled internationally quite extensively before; however, none of us had much in the way of camping experience. This is where Muntari and his team excelled. Each day of the hike before we arrived at camp - the team had arrived ahead of us and already had our camp set up with our own private tents, porta potties, and a separate tent with which we could enjoy our meals with friends. The team was experienced, very hard working, and the most easygoing group to work with. I would highly recommend working with themShow moreTrip date: December 2024
- NANOAH· December 2nd, 2024Hard to know where to begin - Great Lake Expedition were absolutely incredible in supporting us through our Great Lake Expedition Marangu 6 day climb of Kilimanjaro. Our guide was Robert who was amazing throughout. I was a little nervous before the climb and he made me feel so much better from the outset at our pre climb briefing the night before we started. His knowledge of the mountain was second to none and he gave all the best advice at all the right times. I felt completely safe and very happy under Robert leadership. What really stood out to me was how well our team of guides, assistant guides, chefs and porters worked as a team with incredible spirit and always a huge smile and a ‘no man left behind’ kind of attitude , helping one another along the way as second nature. The whole team worked so impressively hard to move our sizeable camp every day, very quickly and ensured it was all ready and laid out beautifully on our arrival to camp each time. The singing and dancing was amazing and really boosted our spirits too. The food on the trip was also delicious and exactly what we needed and I would honestly say one of the soups Yonathan cooked for us one day at lunch time was one of the nicest I have ever had. I also wanted to give special mention to our Assistant Guides Muntari and Jackson were both absolutely amazing and I really am sure that without their incredible support and encouragement throughout the six days and on summit night in particular, I could not have made it to the top. On summit night I was struggling from a headache and with such big mittens on Muntari even helped me to get my water out my pockets and put it away again so that it would not freeze.Jackson made me feel so comfortable throughout our time together and I absolutely loved chatting to him as we walked, he had a detailed knowledge of the mountain and was clearly very dedicated to improving his knowledge further to become a head guide - there was only one flower we came across that he could not name and he took photos to check through his books later on. Muntari seriously helped me out when I was struggling one day and I am so so grateful for all his support. Both Muntari and Jackson always went above and beyond in looking after us and ensuring we were safe and happy throughout the climb and I am sure that they will be incredible head guides in the future - anyone would be lucky to have them both! One final big thank you to Great Lake Expedition for an unforgettable climb. I am so glad we chose Great Lake Expedition to climb with as I really believe there could be no better team on the mountain. If you are thinking about climbing Kilimanjaro and unsure who to climb with I would 100% recommend climbing with Great Lake Expedition.Show moreGreat Lake Expedition commented on this reviewWow, thank you for your heartfelt and detailed review! - CECHARLIE· November 20th, 2024I have done many trips around the world with many tour companies. Great lake Expedition was exceptional. - DRDANIELLA· October 26th, 2024I made it to the roof of Africa with Great Lake Expedition via the 6-day Marangu Route, and I can't recommend them enough. Safety was a top priority, which gave me the confidence to complete the trek. Head guide Muntari was absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable, and the whole team of support crew were incredible. The porters are actual superheroes and made our stay on the mountain as comfortable as possible. We were also extremely well fed. Followed it up with a 3-day safari in Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire NP - all fantastic, our safari guide Robert was full of information and also very funny. Highly recommend Great Lake Expedition if you're visiting northern Tanzania.Show moreGreat Lake Expedition commented on this reviewThank you so much for sharing your incredible experience! From planning the trip to reaching the summit we were so impressed with all the staff members at Great Lake Expedition. We always received prompt and helpful replies while booking, and once we landed in Tanzania the pre-climb transportation and gear-check was seamless. - SSainto· September 26th, 2024This was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and I couldn't have made it to Uhuru Peak without the amazing support of the Great Lake Expedition crew. It takes an incredible amount of work to make this as successful as it can be, and the team always knew what we needed. The food was great, we rented some supplies, and they were of very good quality. The staff at the salinero hotel were very accommodating. Highly recommend this company."Show moreGreat Lake Expedition commented on this reviewThank you so much for your wonderful review!
