Our Kilimanjaro with Great Lake Expedition was perfectly organized, they did everything right and got me and my husband safely to the Uhuru Peak – the highest point in Africa! The crew was very thorough with arrangements and also during the actual trek, starting with the gear crosscheck at our hotel and ensuring we had every item that we needed. The daily health checks in the morning and evening reassured us. We were with real pro mountain guides. They were friendly and very useful in leading us through the route. Senior guide Robert was in-charge of the crew and they went all out to keep us safe and comfortable during the entire. The mood at our camp was amazing, the warmth of song and positive vibes reverberated through the campsite. I am sure that Yonas cooking played a huge part in raising everyone’s spirits. Looking back at the trip, we had it all good from the start, with the smooth booking and payment process with Roster. she helped us with all the information that we needed to select the Rongai route and also assigned the awesome crew that went with us. I would strongly recommend Great Lake Expedition for Kilimanjaro trekking.

An unforgettable experience - thanks to Great Lake Expedition and our amazing team! Muntari, Dismaki, and Jack Rasta always led us with sincere care and professionalism and were frequently close by to help out as well. Yonathan- our waiter - and the entire stomach engineering team kept us extremely well fed and had tea and snacks on the ready along the trails just when we needed the boost most. Reaching the summit safely was at the forefront with health checks twice daily and establishing a pace where no one would be left behind was set by our experienced guides and we all did it together!! After 7 days with our team of guides and porters they started to feel like family and we were sad to say farewell. They all made us feel safe and well taken care of. We admired their strength, knowledge of the mountain and positive cheer leading along the way. I can’t imagine accomplishing such a monumental, once in a life time goal with any other team. Muntari - skillfully arranged all pickups, accommodations on the front and back end at beautiful properties and the Great Lake Expedition team that helped us go through our gear the day prior to departure added to the sense of proper readiness and organization. Every driver we encountered was attentive and great communicators sharing info about their beautiful country and time to destination etc. Everything was seamless! I wholeheartedly recommend Great Lake Expedition and a visit to Tanzania!

All the 5 stars reviews you can read here are all spot on .Great Lake Expedition is top notch from the moment of first contact to Uhuru Peak .What made this trip truly unforgettable and special were the people who guided us during our hike to the top.the team led by the experienced guide Aricko is extremely professional and determined to make it a fantastic week .We spend most of the hours on the mountain with one of the best guides in the region ,Robert.with his knowledge ,cheerfulness and humor not a single hour was boring. The rest of the team from porter, cook, waiter to summit assistants should not remain unnamed.Everyone was equally valuable to us in achieving the altimate goal .These people added color to our journey and their mentality brought us to the top of Africa .I recommend Great Lake Expedition to anyone who is thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro as the only choice you need to consider.

My wife and I and two friends recently returned from a private Kili climb with the Great Lake Expedition Company. I can unreservedly say, having observed the other companies on the mountain, that the Great Lake Expedition team supporting us was second to none in professionalism, experience, friendliness and overall quality. We did the 7 day Rongai route (2 nights at Mawenzi Tarn for acclimatisation) which was incredibly beautiful. I understand from talking to the guides that this route is easier on the first days but harder on the summit day to Gillman's Point compared to one of the routes on the other side of the mountain such as the Machame route that summit via Stella point. We all experienced effects of the altitude (some short term memory issues from 4000m and nausea on the summit climb) but took Diamox so no actual altitude sickness. One of our friends is a severe asthmatic but with doctor approval, some extra drugs and the professional support of our chief guide Saidy and assistant guide Tom, she made it to the top successfully. Saidy made sure the walking pace was appropriate and frequent rest stops were provided to ensure that she didn't lose her breath and could summit safely without the need for oxygen. Yes it hurt and she had to work so much harder than the rest of us but she always felt safe and confident in Saidy's judgment. The small differentials that make Great Lake Expedition stand out were the top treatment of their porters (all wearing appropriate footwear/clothing and not overloaded), the focus on hygiene and the little things (cup of tea in bed every morning and tea at the top of gillman's, wonderful conversations with the guides etc...). We won't forget our cook who stayed up until we left at midnight for the summit climb then walked the first part singing to us to send us on our way.
