Carcassonne lived up to my expectations. The dinner that night in the citadel was delicious (casoulet of course) and watching night fall and the citadel being illuminated from the hotel roof terrace was something special. Pont du Gau nature reserve - I really didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Being able to do the larger loop and just soak up the views of the salt marshes was lovely. The walk from Monterosso to Vernazza was something I had been looking forward to. We were really fortunate with the weather (it rained later that afternoon) and doing the walk early to escape the crowds (Italian long holiday weekend) was a really good idea on Esther's part. I enjoyed wandering around Nice. I hadn't really given much thought to the last couple of days in Florence as I'd been there before. However I had been reading my saved articles from my travel magazines and so was looking to checkout the Santo Spirito neighbourhood which happens to be Esther's neighbourhood and she gave us some great pointers of churches to visit (for artworks) and things to do. Also her tasting tour around the area on our first night there was a very special experience and it made me fall in love with Florence all over again. All the restaurants that Esther chose for our group meals were really great and it gave everyone a chance to relax and get to know each other.

Each of the places were special in their own way. My highlights would be Carcassonne and Cinque Terre and mostly Florence, which is always magical.

We had a wonderful experience. Our guide, Antongiulio Mazzola, was fantastic! A very personable and knowledgeable young man. Every day was packed with new sites and activities. The diversity of activities made this 12 day adventure fly by. Thank you so much to Explore! and to AJ.
