- annette· August 8th, 2023Right from the start the tour guides were excellent. Accomodation was good and the transfers were on time. Everyone was helpful and the service was 6 star. Ahmed in Cairo went out of his way to make sure we had everything. Highly recommended and a professional team made the trip amazing.👏👏 Getaway Tours Egypt did not disappoint 🕺Show moreTrip date: July 2023
- Terri· March 6th, 2023It's taken me a while to think how I will review this trip. The communication pre trip was great. I was picked up and taken to the hotel where I met Ahmed who explained about the $125 us for entry fees plus $55 us for the tip kitty. He also tried to add extra activities to the ones I chose pre tour. I felt pressured to agree but time over again I wouldn't. I would pay for my tickets myself and tip myself. The tolip hotel was great.. the cruise on the Nile was my next issue. Having paid the single supplement. We were enjoying a drink on the ship.. (which was very Agatha christe!.)when our tour guide Hamed.. who was excellent in most ways and very attentive and helpful.. asked another girl and I to speak with him . He then told us the ship was over booked and one room short.. so would we consider sharing. When pushed as to why it was our group and us who had to share. He then said our group had failed to book enough rooms and if we didn't agree.. one of the couples would need to move to another ship. We had only met the previous day and asked to think about it. There were 16 of us altogether We asked to see the room.. which we were told was one of the best on the ship. It wasn't. We agreed to share.. as we felt we had no other option and we would receive the pro rata single supplement and hot air ballloon ride as compensation. I also found out that night I was the only person in the group going to Hurghada. Despite asking a few times how that was going to happen and why wasn't I told pre tour.. I was told to wait. The day before the tour was to end and everyone else was flying back to Cairo.. I asked again how was I getting to Hurghada. I was told public bus. I messaged Ahmed and said this was not acceptable and I wanted a private air-conditioned bus as per the itinerary. He replied that wasn't possible and he would keep $120 us from my refund and pay for private transport. Again I felt stuck and ended up in tears with the others on the tour supporting Mr and insisted I get my refund before I left them. I had to speak with the Manager and again spend precious time sorting it out. I very reluctantly agreed to the bus.. again being assurred by Hamed it was modern, clean, reclining seats, toilet etc. It wasn'tShow moreTrip date: February 2023
- Christina· February 19th, 2023Automatic translation available in English. View in EnglishThe sights were very well chosen and everything was well organized. Special praise to the guide Hamad, who took care of us for 4 days: sound knowledge imparted in an instructive but also entertaining way. Took very good care of the group.Show moreTrip date: February 2023
- NKNikolay· January 15th, 2023The start of our trip was perfect - we were met at the airport, transfered to the hotel and got a tour to the pyramids and the National museum. The guide there was perfect. The only thing, that surprised us a little bit was the fact, that we were taken the money for one day's extension of our stay in Hurghada (we asked for that) and the price was $170 per room. The real problems started in Assuan. The guide was all the time in a hurry. We asked to give us some time for translation of his words as two members of the group were not fluent in English, but this never happened. Maybe his explanations were good for people, who have not read about Egyptian history, but this was not the case with us and were were not satisfied by his explanation. To crown the whole, he tried to transfer us to Hurghada by public transport, otherwise we should pay $80 per person for private transport. We opposed to that and got private transport. In Hurghada we paid $ 170 per room for a second night extensin of our stay at the hotel. When chcking the prices at the front desk, it turned out that the real price was nearly 3 timed lower. The initial offer for snorkelling was $85 per person, reduced to $ 50. Checking the prices in the agencies, the average prices were about $40. We were ready to pay for proper service a lot, but not to be cheated so brutally.Show moreTrip date: January 2023
- Em· December 5th, 2022You get what you pay for. Accommodations: I consider this tour budget traveling as what was supposed to be 5 star accommodation was really 2 stars. Hotel at Cairo was like a 1990’s Quality Inn, river cruise ship on the Nile was like a Motel 8 with the smell of urine on the carpeted hallways since the boat was from the 1960’s, and the hotel resort at Hurghada was the best similar to a Courtyard-Marriott. All hotels provided food—cucumber salad, bread, eggs, some meats, and more. Upon your first day orientation the guides will pressure you to pay them $125 for all entrance fees to the museums and temples and $55 for tips. I regret paying $55 for tips as the drivers and guides insisted you pay them tips after every trip. I found this utterly unprofessional as one wonders, why are you requesting more tip when I’ve already paid? So be careful when they push you to pay tips up front. I would rather pay the driver and tour guides separately for tips as you never know who is pocketing that $55. -WiFi is not included at the river cruise ship nor Hurghada and you’ll have to pay an extra fee and sit in one tiny corner for spotty WiFi. I recommend buying a SIM card for service at the airport upon arrival at Cairo otherwise you’ll depend on Egyptians taking you to a phone provider then expecting you pay them tip for helping you. A note: Egyptians get free unlimited SIM cards so they’ll give their ID to the phone provider so you get a free SIM card. That’s how I was able to get my SIM as I didn’t bring my passport with me and left it on the ship. -The tours for Abu Simbel and hot air balloon start extremely early at 4am. The other tours started early with meeting times at 6 or 7am so you don’t get much sleep if you’re planning on drinking at the bar or relaxing on the boat deck. Also the tour guides will rush you at the temples so they can take you to their own souvenir shops like a papyrus center, statue center, etc. I recommend you purchase your souvenirs outside of these shops as they charge an arm and a leg. The tour guides also get commission for everything you purchase. I will say the papyrus center was fascinating so I did spend quite a bit since I loved their quality and art. Domestic internal flight from Cairo to Aswan was an absolute nightmare. We had 17 people in our tour group and the guides don’t go in with you at the check-in counter so you have all these other people cutting in front of you. I had to stand my ground by the check-in counter to tell Egyptians that I was checking in my family so they needed to stand in line for their turn. Needless to say telling this to an Egyptian man in a patriarchal society with a 5’1 foreign women and 10 people vouching for you was what worked. The flight was also delayed by 1.5 hours and the guide at Aswan was not notified of the delay so communication with this tour company is not the greatest. Overall I will say the trip was okay for what I paid for. I met some amazing people on this trip and they made it worthwhile. I as well as others got sick on this trip mostly a stomach bug type situation. They have pharmacies so don’t panic if you didn’t bring your Tums. I still packed vitamin-C tablets and packets. We think we got sick from the ice cubes as they probably didn’t use filtered water. Word of advice: drink bottled water or anything from a can otherwise you will pay for it in other ways. In summary: bring plenty of small change bills, they accept American dollars, bring walking shoes as you’ll be walking about 5 miles a day, get ready to be a morning bird with the early starts for tours, bring a hat and sunglasses, and most importantly stay hydrated. Everyone in Egypt is just trying to make a living and tips is their livelihood so make sure to bring small bills.Show moreTrip date: November 2022
- Kerstin· October 31st, 2022I am actually writing this review only to manage your expectations. I booked this trip last minute and got a very reasonable price. Knowing now what I got for my money I am glad that I got a good last minute price. I expected low budget, and I got low budget with a lot of organizational hickups. In short: Positive: + Answered all my questions before my arrival + Picked me up from the airport a day before the tour started + and - Upgraded my hotel room category as a gift as they forgot to book my Cairo hotel nights and I had to spend two hours in the lobby until they sorted it out + Very nice staff in Cairo + Tour guide at nile cruise treated us with some local food and drinks throughout the tour and tried to be very friendly about everything. + Hotel in Cairo and food at nile cruise was totally fine. + Responsible person in Hurghada was very kind and asked twice while I was there if everything is fine and if I wanted to book tours there Negative: - They forgot to book my hotel in Cairo - Tour guide in Cairo (museum and pyramids) was super unmotivated (showed us the second pyramid only because "he loves us, and usually does not take tours there"... Whaaat?) and was in a rush to get rid of us to pickup sth for this daughter. He told us the light and laser show which we wanted to do does not work for three months, but I believe this was a lie as I found an online platform a couple of days later where bookings were possible. - Company did not realize that my included flight to Assuan was canceled and changed. I had to tell them... - The tour guide for the Nile Cruise had no idea about our personalized agendas as everybody in the tour had additionals (e.g. Abu Simbel, Nubian Village,...) booked. We had to inform the TG about everything so that it could be organized (sometimes last minute and very chaotic) - The cruise ship that was included was the slowest boat of all of them. We were the last ones EVERYWHERE which meant we had less time at the sights - One temple we even skipped because we had hundreds of people in front of us and believed we did not have time to enjoy it. (was our own decision) - Since we were the last ones we had a delay of seven hours on the day where we should have visited Luxor temple and Karnak temple. We had to cram it to the last day (with valley of the kings and Hatschepsut temple) as we could not do anything on that day. We were simply stuck on the boat having to see all of the boats passing us and leaving us behind. (Rumor has it that the tour guides wanted to have a free Sunday, as most of them left the boat the day before. Our TG stayed on the boat and had a day off practically) - Since we were rushing everywhere or got to sights late (especially on the last day) there was never time to shop a bit for souvenirs, have a quick cafe or so. Just quickly rushing from sight to sight. - Our tour guide rushed with us through everything only explaining very little (basically the same couple of sentences a small guidebook states). After her mini tour she said to find here at the cafe after we are finished to take pictures. We kept listening envily to other tour guides to get all this exciting info. - With all due respect the English skills of our TG were very poor. Again we were really envy hearing other tour guides speak and explain. - Everything was always very chaotic. Timings were never met (and no worries I do understand that I was abroad where another culture is lived) or changed abruptly. Wake-up calls were placed totally wrong because our tour guide messed up the room numbers, those things.... - TG overslept for the trip to Abu Simbel. The reception was so kind as to place a wakeup call to the TGs room. - What I found odd and it shows the laziness of our tour guide. I was the only one in our group having internet permanently. The tour guide always whatsapped me and asked me to spread the word with the rest of the group who could not be reached via WhatsApp. The nile cruise ship is not huge, it would have been easy to find the mini group members. I was not sitting together with my tour members all the time.. At the end of the day I saw everything that the tour included, so they delivered what I had paid for, so in general I am fine with it. It is just a pitty that the freelance tourguides were not great as the sights would have deserved great storytelling. Low budget meant low quality in our case for some important things. If you dont expect much and just want to tick the Egypt sights one by one from your bucket list this tour is fine.Show moreTrip date: October 2022
- RWRoss· July 11th, 2022Overall an amazing experience. Each guide was kind, friendly, knowledgeable and fun - truly fantastic characters (Hassan, Ayman, Miss. Morning, Essam, Ahmed, Ashraf and everyone else including the drivers). The drivers were perfect and drove well on the sometimes chaotic roads - they were very trustworthy and looked after everyones belongings too. There was never an issue with any staff member. My fellow tourists were also amazing and I'm lucky for everything to have worked out as it did. Despite giving the review 5 stars I need to be realistic and give some constructive criticism: I had stomach pains after eating on the boat I believe it was the fish however it could have been due to the new environment etc as no one else was in this state. The time in Hurghada could have been better... I had a 5 star all inclusive hotel and no time to use it due to an 11 hour train and car ride to get there and once there I was led to believe I could scuba dive AND do safari however once there had to make a choice between the two - also the staff at the front desk had a bit of an indirect attitude in their communication with me unlike the amazing and kind staff on the cruise ship and everywhere else. While on the safari I could not choose how I wanted to spend it like others I had seen there. I would have preferred more time on the quad bike travelling far like other groups instead of a little taste of each thing (quad, spider bike etc) and travelling in a jeep there and back... it was fun but boring compared to quad bike action. Despite wanting to have had the things mentioned I truly feel the experience was great fun and the staff were so friendly and professional. I thank everyone at tour radar and from the tour egypt team. I appreciate you all looking out for me and showing off your beautiful country and culture. Thanks alot.Show moreTrip date: June 2022
- Sstephanie· June 22nd, 2022This tour was AmazonFresh, honestly the best trip I’ve ever made, totally worth it; I didn’t have to do anything they took care of everything. All the guides were amazing; they were professionals, made you feel safe. We were 2 girls and never felt any danger. The hotels were amazing, the food was great, and the best part is that everything was included in the price, with the exceptions of some foods. The guides were very flexibl and accommodating; they tried to get us special prices for activies such as: parasailing, scuba diving etc…Show moreGetaways Egypt commented on this reviewThank you for your positive feedback, we appreciate it very much.
