I thought the tour was very good. Unfortunately we had a mishap by our ship being hit by a freighter on the Rhine River. The ships personnel were great in their response as were the German emergency service people. Avalon took great care of my wife and I. The sites and all the little perks (example brandy coffee during a visit) were wonderful. I would recommend this tour to everyone.

water levels were low - 2 days late to start then 3 hour coach tour to board boat then only 4 days of river cruising before being docked for 3 nights then to be told not enough water to continue. Options to disembark or continue on coach - disappointed you bet.... so much for a trip of a lifetime - 15 days of magnificent River Cruising - not !!!

We just completed Magnificent Europe (Amsterdam-Budapest) August 30-September 14, 2018. We were originally booked on the PASSION but were told at the Amsterdam Airport that due to low water levels on the river we would be sailing on the ILLUMINATION instead. Obviously, many were disappointed. The disappointment didn't last very long! The staff were amazing! Not only were they professional, but they went above and beyond to personalize your service. Basically, your wish was their command! The ship was spotless. Our rooms were cleaned twice daily. Andreea did a wonderful job of keeping everything pristine. The third deck lounge had a coffee machine that could make anything from hot water to hot milk and anything in between! Fresh cookies and pastries were always available. The meals were extraordinary with daily local dishes. If you became tired of all of the wonderful cuisine and wanted a plain steak or cheeseburger with fries you got it and it was delicious! My husband and I loved our dining room server Liva. We always made sure that we sat at her tables. What a gem with a wonderful sense of humor! She remembered all of our personal preferences! Valentin our Cruise Director was phenomenal! We had a briefing every evening at 6:45 PM prior to dinner. He too had a great sense of humor but more importantly, he was very candid regarding the water levels and how it would affect our itinerary. There was one day that we were all asked if possible to get off of the ship with our first morning tour. The captain had to maneuver the ship over low water and was concerned for the safety of all of the passengers. However, due to physical disability several passengers stayed on board. Instead of returning to the ship we were bused to a beautiful Abbey that was an optional tour for some. It became an included excursion for everyone. Those that had paid to go were reimbursed. We were ALL given food vouchers to the Sausage Kitchen and 15 Euros per person for lunch if we didn't want the sausage, sauer***kraut*** and beer! Best sauer***kraut*** that I ever ate! We met up with the ship late that afternoon around 6:00 PM. What a welcome aboard we received! The crew were on the top deck with "Welcome Back" signs, Alanas our onboard musician was serenading us with his saxophone playing "Stranger on the Shore" and we were all offered Mudslides as we came through the door. It became a welcome home party! What could have been a disappointing day became one of the highlights of the trip! Plus, we all agreed spending an entire day on shore was better than having to disembark bag and baggage to a hotel! The shore excursions were wonderful. The local tour guides were very knowledgeable and educated you on the history of the city or site you were visiting. You always had the option of going off alone if you preferred. I would take another Avalon Waterways Cruise in a heartbeat and will recommend Avalon to friends and family.

We did our first river cruise in May last year from Budapest to Amsterdam on the Impression. We had a fantastic time and could not fault it and have booked another cruise. This time from Prague to Bucharest on the Passion in June next year. And no doubt there will be more. It is only Avalon Waterways for us.
