- SBSusan· August 21st, 2023Absolutely flawless. We (myself and my son) were met at Sofia airport as planned one day before, kept up-to-date with logistics, stayed in 4 beautiful hotels and were transferred to Bucharest airport right on time at the end of the trip to fly home. The guide, Viktor, was extremely personable and interacted so well with our group of 10 people. He really made an effort to ensure we were well looked after. He played online chess with my 13yr old son on one long journey, educated another passenger about the local agriculture and joining of Bulgaria to the EU, went out of his way to tell me about the meaning of ancient astronomical symbols and ensured another traveller (who had expressed an interest in Communist rule) was well-informed about the history and regime. Being tri-lingual, he was at ease talking to some of our group from the USA in Spanish/English, and others in English, without anyone feeling excluded. The tour was, as planned though, conducted in English. During our walking tours, the pace was perfect and sensitively guided and Viktor made sure all our questions were answered, and if he did not know the answer to a question, he would look it up later and come back to us. If anyone requested a slight deviation from the route (a few of us wanted to go to an antique shop!) he ensured that everyone was comfortable with this, and safe and looked after and also had the opportunity to pursue their own interests later. Viktor also knew when we were tired and needed a nap on the bus, and so turned the microphone off at the right time :-) to let us rest. He clearly worked 24/7 to make sure we had a safe, enjoyable and informative experience. I am so glad we had him as our guide :-) Please thank him enormously. I am also happy that there was only 10 of us in the group and we were on the English-speaking bus. The other bus (Spanish speaking) had 40 guests, which is a lot to take on a walking tour I think. I don't think a group should be more than 20 people. Our driver was also very patient and approachable. The times of the tours and the itinerary were also well-thought through. We signed up on this tour for culture, scenery and learning. Not for relaxing lie-ins! The times of daily departure and hotel rest times and meal times were perfect :-). The food was also great. A delicious mix of a breakfast fry-up or healthy fruit, and traditional fare for dinner. I was kept informed by email & the App, so felt very well looked after. Thank you very much indeed.Show moreEuropamundo commented on this reviewWe are thankful that you took the time to give us a positive review of your tour experience. - GBGuy· July 9th, 20234 day trip from Sofia through Bulgaria to Bucharest. Generally very good. First night (plus 2 add-ons) was at Novotel in Sofia. Quite a nice hotel though it would have been good if the hotel were within walking distance of the city centre. Taxis pretty cheap though. We were warned in advance we'd be the only 2 English speakers on the tour. The rest were Spanish speaking. Dimeter did a good job of giving us private English summaries of the spiel he gave in Spanish in the bus, but it would have been nice if the tour were for English speakers so we'd get the full benefit of the regular talks. Tour over Bulgarian countryside was interesting, as was Plovdiv. Again the hotel was good modern but quite away from the city centre. From Plovdiv to Veliko Tarnovo was a good drive. The stop at Kazulnuk in the Valley of the Roses was interesting, especially the (mock) Thracian tomb. It would have been good to have stopped at one of the rose-growing farms to see how they worked. The stop at the reconstructed ethnic village of Etara was interesting, and lunch was good. Arbanassi was an interesting historical village. I found the Saturday afternoon Slavic Dance gathering we happened to come across more interesting than the church we visited. The hotel in Veliko was "different" - we were on level minus 4! Right in the middle of town though, and generous-sized rooms, in a retro style.. Border crossing at Rousse was tedious as expected but well- handled by the tour organisers. In Bucharest, the Hotel Mercure City Centre worked well, and was only a short walk to the hotel for our next organised tour, the Intercontinental. The Bucharest city tour was in the afternoon after a busy day travelling so wasn't feeling particularly enthusiastic for this, especially the walking part. Overall the tour was quite good and well-priced. I'd have preferred a smaller English-speaking tour group. Dimeter, the guide, a native of Sofia, was excellent as was the coach driver.Show moreEuropamundo commented on this reviewHi Guy.
