- JRJane· September 13th, 2024Our adventure to Slovenia was absolutely spectacular! Every aspect of the trip was fabulous. Our guides, Masha and Hannah were so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Our hikes were well planned, exhilarating and gorgeous! The pension where we stayed was spacious and clean. And the food was delicious.Show moreExodus Adventure Travels commented on this reviewWe would like to sincerely thank you for taking the time to post a review of your experience on our Walking the Slovenian Alps tour and we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your adventure. - Stephen· September 11th, 2022Slovenia is a strikingly beautiful country. The hiking trails are are largely underdeveloped and technically challenging. What was considered moderate by Exodus, I would have considered challenging. The guides were helpful and knowledgeable. The physical facilities were very nice.Show moreTrip date: September 2022

- ALindsey Stone· October 23rd, 2011I had a complete blast on this trip, everything about it was fantastic! oh except Slovenia has the largest wasp population in the world! I had been expecting a wet soggy week but the weather was fanstastic, the group was one of the best I've travelled with, the pension was lovely, the guides top notch. I have travelled to over 65 countries and never go anywhere twice - I would go to Slovenia again in a heart beat and that for me says it all. What was the most inspirational moment of your trip? There were so many - the scenery, the food, the wine, the beer, the group, the guides. Everyday I looked forward to getting up and came back laughing! What did you think of your group leader? We had two guides - both spoke perfect English, had a huge knowledge of the area and made me feel totally safe. They fitted right in and became friends to all of us.Do you have any advice for potential travellers?Do it! I loved this trip and I've been on loads of this type of thing. I can imagine it's a bit miserable if the weather isn't good but then it is mountain terrain and it goes with the territory. This is a really easy trip to do alone. I was supposed to go with a friend but she was taken ill and couldn't come. Slovenia is such an easy place to be in and well worth what little effort it takes to be there. Is there anything else you would like to add?Any trip that ends up as a lock in at a local restaurant is OK with me! I would do it again in a heatbeat!ÂShow moreTrip date: October 2011
- AAlexander Jeffrey· July 19th, 2008Beautiful scenery, multicoloured meadows, high ridges, wonderful lakes - what more can you want? The hotel was comfortable and characterful, the guides (Alecs and Mojca) really knowledgeable and professional, as well as being great fun. What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?Walking along the Golice ridge with one foot in Slovenia and one in Austria with fantastic views on both sides. What did you think of your group leader? Both were great, they love their country and it shows.Do you have any advice for potential travellers?Be aware that it rains quite a bit but it won't spoil the trip. We had 2 days' thunderstorms out of 6- the rest were perfect. Take an umbrella with a plastic or wooden tip (safer during thunderstorms) and you won't even notice it.Is there anything else you would like to add?Nothing, just go for it!!Show moreTrip date: July 2008
- ACraig Fullerton· June 18th, 2008Slovenia is an undiscovered wonder! It's like Switzerland ... without the Swiss ;)What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?As much as I loved the hiking, our days off in Bled were amazing. Swimming in the lake with the spectacular scenery, the warm sun glistening off the water, the creaking boats, the impressive church on the island - all too beautiful. What did you think of your group leader?Andre and Clement were brilliant guides - good sense of humour, patience of Mother Theresa and the energy of a tireless machine.Do you have any advice for potential travellers?Live it - dont hold back. and pack in sensible shoes... ;)Is there anything else you would like to add? We'll be back - Annapurna is our next big trip with Exodus. I hope it goes as well as this one. Thanks again for the excellent holiday.Show moreTrip date: June 2008
- AJuliet Payne· October 4th, 2007What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?Slovenia itself. It's been through a lot. And yet despite its history, has a strong identity which is very attractive. The Slovenians that we met were warm, helpful, informative, very hospitable and patriotic. I was delighted to spend time in such a positive beautiful country. What did you think of your group leader? The guides were an inspiration. Mojca and Ales made the week for me. We had a great group, we were very lucky, and M & A adapted to the group's needs immediately. The pace was fast enough and slow enough for everyone. The walks adapted for the weather ,everyday, with no fuss. They thought of everything, were very organised and responsible and yet great fun! And went beyond the call of duty to help us, on a number of occasions. And they were so proud of their country (quite rightly so!) and so well informed, it was a great to learn so much about a country I knew so little about. Slovenia is beautiful and ideal for walking. I'm so glad we chose the lakes and mountains because the contrast was a real pleasure. And I didn't mind the rain! You just need to get yourself an umbrella, everybody has one in Slovenia!Do you have any advice for potential travellers?Go with an open mind. I didn't know what to expect from the walking. But I realised you just take it one step at a time. And I enjoyed every step. Even the tough ones.Is there anything else you would like to add?The hotel was excellent. A real surprise. Very hospitable and homely. Clean and spacious rooms with all you needed and more. We had a ground floor room with a lovely valley view with a balcony overlooking the view and the veg patch that supplied most of the hotel's produce! Tony and his family were really efficient and his cooking is just what you need after a day's walking! We were very sad to leave.Show moreTrip date: October 2007
- ARichard Arnold· October 4th, 2007What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?Dawn breaking on Triglav after a long journey through the night. What did you think of your group leader? Both leaders were thoroughly excellent, and contributed extensively to the very sociable atmosphere that developed within the group.Do you have any advice for potential travellers? Most importantly: I travelled by train from London to Slovenia (and back again), in an attempt to reduce the "carbon footprint" associated with the holiday. This mode of transport is not without its issues, but is perfectly feasible as an alternative to short- haul European flights. I would like to ask all Exodus participants in European trekking holidays to consider whether they actually must fly in order to join in, or whether other options are possible. (I don't myself believe that "offsetting" is a genuine solution to the problem of aviation emissions.)Is there anything else you would like to add?My own preparation for the trip was woeful - blighted almost totally by flooding and injuries - so that I wasn't fit enough to do much in the way of sustained or demanding walking. Had I been better prepared, I would have found the walking that we did rather tame, particularly given the stunning views of the Julian Alps, which are spectacularly wild and rugged. At the same time, the guest house was very comfortable, and I had no great inclination to stay at the mountain huts, as required by the other, higher-level Slovenian trip. I wonder if it might be possible to set up a compromise between the two, so that options involving some scrambling, via ferrata, and high-level ridges were available to at least some of the group on at least some days, without requiring a week in mountain huts.Show moreTrip date: October 2007
- AJennifer Metherell· September 9th, 2012The accommodation and food was excellent, the countryside stunningly beautiful, the fellow walkers great company, but I personally found the walks towards the end of the week too challenging for me.What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?I think the views from the mountain huts were very inspirational, and also the visits to amazingly romantic Lake Bled. What did you think of your group leader? The group leader was very competent and experienced. He  obviously really knew the walks like the back of his hand.Do you have any advice for potential travellers?A lot of the walking was more challenging than I expected, so make sure you've got good fitness, or do regular uphill walking. Is there anything else you would like to add?I thought the trip advisor was misleading. It promised us 500m average ascent, with a maximum of 700m.By the third walk we were up to 900m and the next two walks were tougher, so I had to opt out of them. I could manage the 700m we been promised, but 200m higher was too much. Also it told us that we would be walking on well-marked paths with a few loose stones. In actual fact there was a lot of clambering up and down boulders and tree roots.I think if I'd known these things, I wouldn't have chosen this holiday.ÂShow moreTrip date: September 2012
- ASian Clissold· July 3rd, 2012This trip was absolutely fantastic, it gives a chance to mix a walking holiday with seeing such a beautiful and relatively undiscovered part of Europe. Each day is packed with beautiful views, walking can be challenging at times but you are rewarded again and again with the scenery on offer, even the airport had pretty mountains views! For me it was a perfect combination of a group organised walking trip but with some free time mixed in.What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?Slovenia itself - it really is the most beautiful country! I have been to many stunning countries across the world but Slovenia really surprized me, such beautiful scenery, on my doorstep really, that i knew very little about. My favourite day was when we summited Golica and you walk with one foot in Austria and one foot in Slovenia, such pretty scenery, a little tough at times but i could have sat taking in the views at the top for ever and ever. Saying that though every day was fantastic, we had a great group of people and lots of fun. Even the free day which i choose to spend sunbathing and swimming in Lake Bled, as it was over 30 degrees, which was pretty special too. The trip had everything, great walking, stunning views, some free time and a fantastic bunch of people. What did you think of your group leader? We had 2 leaders, David and Micah and they were such great guys. Very knowledgeable, with a real love and pride for their country and wicked sense of humour too. They were very good judges of character and took the time to make sure everyone was looked after and really helped to make the trip as good as it was. Do you have any advice for potential travellers? The food portions everywhere are huge - one of our group ordered deep fried cheese for a starter on a night out - and it came with a side serving of chips - for a starter!! Lovely soups and cakes too - good job it was a walking holiday! Is there anything else you would like to add?Just that i can't wait to go back to Slovenia - normally i'm already planning my next adventure somewhere new on the flight home but i would love to go back to this country. I wish i'd added a stay in Ljubljana onto the beginning or end of the trip as the people who had or went on the free day loved it, but that just gives me the perfect excuse i need to go back!Show moreTrip date: July 2012
