Back in 1989, two guys from Melbourne, Australia by the names of Darrell and Manch set off on an adventure to the other side of the world. They travelled to Africa and without air conditioning on their modified truck, they filled it with supplies, some beer, a bunch of aviator sunglasses, and...

- SESuzanne· October 27th, 2024I was a bit skeptical booking this trip on Touradar as there wasn’t any recent reviews but I took the chance and all I can say is.. I’m so glad I did! It was my first Intrepid Tour but will not be my last. I have done previous tours with a younger cohort but really enjoyed the mix of ages. India- The Golden Triangle Tour up to Agra. My Group Leader was Juhi, a really sweet, patient and knowledgeable group leader. The first hotel we stayed at was very basic. The area wasn’t great but I’m guessing because it was close to the metro subway, that’s why we stayed in this area. We took the metro to a few activities which was pretty cool. There were a few days where we spent a lot of time walking in the sun which I loved but it might not suit every one. For a lot of the temples we had guides which was brilliant but I suggest looking up some the history prior to going so you can really engage. We visited a gem factory, a carpet factory, silk factory and though these sound boring, it was super interesting and no obligation to buy. I regret not buying something in the silk factory- all traditional silk ways of making things. We did a food tour as an additional activity booked through intrepid and it took us to amazing street food! The Taj Mahal was incredible, I thought it would be jam packed but we went at golden hour and it was perfect. For those wanting to get a snap without people in it, you can ask a photographer there to photoshop people out! Jaipur the pink city was so nice after the chaos of Delhi. The hotels we stayed at for the rest of the trip were lovely! For the second part of the trip, some of us who were continuing on, joined another group. Our group leader was Neeraj (Nicky) a very patient, hilarious inclusive leader. Nicky was very experienced and even organised outside activities and accommodation for after the tour (I was able to get a discount so would recommend talking to intrepid about accommodation before and after to get the best out of your trip). The highlights were seeing 8 one horned rhinos in Chitwan National park, being so close it looked at us a few feet away ( set your expectations low and you will not be disappointed). Kathmandu was incredible also. If you’re wondering if this tour is for you: There is a night train that isn’t every one’s cup of tea but Nicky made it as relaxing as possible. There is a bit of physical activity-walking, climbing in and out of boats, camping, tuk tuks, Nepalese roads are extremely bumpy also so if someone has back issues, it may not be the best tour (best to speak to intrepid prior to booking). My only criticism was that when we went camping on the Ganges river (prepare yourself to be do wee and poo in a hole) was that the boat we took was a row boat and it took a fair while to get there (they were sleeping in between!) would have been a far better experience if it took less time eg a motor but it was a brilliant experience none the less. Clothing wise: I brought some cotton pants, scarves as you need to cover up going to the temples. Go with no expectations to both India and Nepal and you will have the most amazing time! Food is cheap also! Thanks for a trip of a life time intrepid!Show moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewThank you Suzanne for your in-depth review of your time exploring India and Nepal. - AHAndreas· December 22nd, 2019The Intrepid itinerary as advertised is slightly incorrect both on Intrepid and TourRadar Website. They have changed 1 night at Chitwan to Madi Valley honestly which Intrepid sponsors. Lovely philanthropic gesture but takes almost 2 days out of a 17 day content tour. Would have liked to have known before I booked.Show moreTrip date: December 2019
- Kayleigh· July 15th, 2016I have travelled twice with them and yes they do do excellent packages. However when the going gets rough such as my Road Traffic Accident caused by the driver they provided which they had performing a long journey on treacherous road with minimal rest stops when the journey when the trip could have been done over two days without effecting the overall trip duration. I would gladly have pad for the extra nights hotel. They gave half truths to my solicitor when I went to make a claim via my insurers and claim because I accepted the itenerary they were not responsible even though the itinerrary failed to go into such specifics. All I wished to claim was two for loss of pay due to PTSD but apparently this was beneath them to offer. I will never travel with this company again.Show moreTrip date: December 2014
- JJenspen_17@hotmail.com· March 11th, 2015I loved the highlights of India and Nepal trip which was split over two tours with two leaders. We saw so much and had great experiences, too many to mention! Very well organised trip, variety of accommodation and transport used to mix it up a bit. Great trip, great leaders who looked after us and had great local knowledge. Would recommend this trip if you want to see a lot and have the time of your life!Show moreTrip date: February 2015
- Tony· February 1st, 2015This was our first group tour and it was amazing! We did so much in the 19 days that I am not going to ramble on about it, but I will say this: - The small group of 12 people were great and soon felt like family! - Our guides were amazing! They really looked after us, had great local knowledge and went way beyond expectations! - We loved seeing the most popular attractions, but best of all were the small villages, local home-stays and intimate river journey! - accommodation was basic but comfortable. It was also well planned so that if we had been in a tent one night we could recover in a more comfortable hotel the next. - Some meals were included & they were all good. Our group chose to eat together most other meals and our guides would always come (& help choose) too! I quote our guide 'Don't worry, eat a curry!' :-) - India is not a place for the faint hearted! It is a country of extremes and you need to be flexible and up for an adventure! - Intrepid's Responsible Travel Policy of supporting local communities, employing local guides, reducing rubbish, no animal cruelty and low impact tourism was also great to see! We loved this trip and will be planning our next trip with Intrepid soon! :-)Show moreTrip date: December 2014
- John· May 25th, 2014This tour can be described in word: Amazing. It takes you to all the main sights of India and Nepal. You visit for example the Amber Palace, Taj Mahal, the ceremonial cremations in Varanasi. Also a lot of wildlife is covered in the Chitwan National Park, since you are going on safari by kanoe and jeep. If that´s not enough you can also go on safari by elephant. The tour ends with an amazing mountain flight around Mount Everest. Everything you can wish for in a crash course India & Nepal is covered in this tour in 19 days. It´s a crazy rollercoaster ride, but at the end you´ll be glad you did it.Show moreTrip date: May 2014

- AAnonymous· February 23rd, 2010Really good well orgainsed trip with a good mixture of activities. I thoroughly enjoyed itTrip date: January 2010
- AAnonymous· January 27th, 2010Overall a great trip. Only downside is the double-up of merely going back to Delhi only to return to Agra, which is something to be put up with (or worked around, like we did, as the train back to Delhi was at night).Trip date: January 2010
- AAnonymous· January 25th, 2010India is a place where one can develop a love/hate relationship with the country. Without a carefully organised and executed itinerary, the relationship that I developed with India would have not been so positive.Trip date: January 2010
