Back in 1989, two guys from Melbourne, Australia by the names of Darrell and Manch set off on an adventure to the other side of the world. They travelled to Africa and without air conditioning on their modified truck, they filled it with supplies, some beer, a bunch of aviator sunglasses, and...

- AAliciaSpence· August 12th, 2022I have travelled with Intrepid several times before with no issues but this tour was problematic right from the beginning. The tour itinerary was too rushed (leaving at best 2-3 hours of sunlight to explore places before embarking early the next day); we missed a lot of activities (even the included activities); the itinerary published was really only a “guide” as there was modifications almost on a daily basis; the suppliers used were of poor quality (bordering on dangerous in Mozambique and the transfer to the gates of Kruger National Park); the accomodation was really far away in most places (leaving it impossible to arrange alternative transport to grab food / explore activities in the area as the truck struggled to even get in there with the low hanging trees); upgrades in national parks were not upgrades as a new booking was required (park fees had to be also paid again); tour guide was useless with no information given about activities (only really got time that we had to leave the following next day) and there seemed to be a disconnect between ground staff and the people who decide what the tour should cover (appears that decision-makers have not taken the tour to realise it does not work as advertised). If you book this tour, you will see South Africa 85% of the time by sitting in a truck with only 15% of time given to explore places. As a guide most places listed take a full day of travel (you will be up around 5am every day). Mozambique should be scrapped as it takes several hours to cross the border (corrupt and granting visas take at least 20 mins per person before you can queue to get your passport stamped). Hope this information helps in deciding whether to travel with Intrepid as personally I regretted my decision and would have been better off travelling with Nomads, Acacia, Sunway Safaris or Drifters.Show moreTrip date: July 2022
- AAnonymous· January 25th, 2010Highly recommend this trip. Although there is a lot of driving the amount of sights/activities/scenery you see in the two weeks is amazing. Loved it!Trip date: January 2010
