My husband and I added on this 15 day Garden Route tour to the 73 day Absolute Safari tour. Highly recommend both tours. The Garden Route tour, like the Absolute Safari tour, is unique each day. Different scenery, different excursions, different experiences. Always interesting! Absolute Africa's professionalism and organization is excellent. Our tour guides/crew, Peter and Steve, are outstanding! Their knowledge, their work ethics, and their priority to ensure each passenger has a fun, safe, and fantastic time is incredible. The 15 days does go by quickly. Excellent tour. Although wish each stay had more time/days for a more relaxing time.

While reading the Garden Route documents it says to be prepared for detours or adventures you wont be able to do because of the nature of the trip. When I read this I assumed that was because anything can happen to the truck or individuals in my group. I did not anticipate it being because our guides wanted to get from one campsite to the next the fastest. We didn't get the chance to do many excursions because of this. For example, they moved up the day for our bungee jump so we were unable to do the canopy zipline and/or black water tubing which were scheduled for that day. Due to this there were several days that we did nothing but sit at a campsite. We were on the ten day tour with excursions planned everyday. That did not happen and it was disappointing. Also, if you want to see the many supermarkets of south Africa this is the trip for you because you will be eating there for lunch pretty much every day.

Great tour defiantly recommend. First two days in capetown are just your own stuff not really required to be on the tour by apart from that awesome! Expect big cook ups, few nights camping, long bus trips. Highlight is Jbay to surf and Ado national park

I'd never travelled on my own before and I'd never done an overland trip, so started small - the Garden route. I was so nervous, I very nearly backed out of the trip. I'd read so many reviews, some mixed reviews trying to prepare myself and it was slightly overwhelming. All I can say is it was incredible, I didn't want to leave. My tour leader Aly was fab; a great cook, funny, knowledgeable, encouraging and made me feel safe and settled. Dave our driver got us from A to B and kept everything running smoothly. The scenery and experiences were amazing, I was with a lovely group of people, stayed in some lovely places and laughed so so much. To anyone who is unsure ... I would say just do it, you won't regret it, you'll regret not doing it. I'm already planning my next trip a longer trip :) Thank you Absolute for such a special experience.

What our customers ask about this tour

The content in our FAQ section is subject to change.
    • Are flights included?

As we have travellers from all over the world, flights before and after the tour are not included in the tour price and you need to arrange these separately by yourself once your tour is guaranteed. As we specialise in organising the best tours around the world for you, we are unable to advise on flight prices or book flights on your behalf. We recommend that you do not book your flights until your place on the tour has been confirmed. Check out the following link which is powered by Skyscanner to book your flight - https://flights.tourradar.com

    • What are the inclusions of the tour?

This tour is fantastic value for money due to the number of activities, meals and transport included, to see all the inclusions on the tour please click 'What's Included' on the main tour page.

    • How early do you recommended arriving in Cape Town?

On the tour you get 2 nights in Capetown so depending on what you would like to do you might want to arrive a few days earlier as some excursions like shark diving, Cape of Good Hope etc take a whole day.

    • Can you assist with booking additional accommodation?

Once you have a confirmed booking on this tour, we can request additional accommodation for you with the tour operator.

    • Is there anything that I need to be aware when bringing my children with me on this trip?

Please be aware that in South Africa there are certain documents required at the port of entry for children. You can find further details on the South African Government Department of Home Affairs website.

    • Does this tour include a visit to the boulder beach?

The first 2 days of the tour are spent in Capetown, these are free days and you can do a tour to boulders beach with the penguins from there. The lodge where we stay has a travel desk that offers a range of tours in the area including the penguins and also wine tours.

    • When is the best time to travel?

For warm and sunny weather on the Garden Route between December and March is the best. April will be coming into South African autumn so the weather should be still mild.

    • When does the tour start and end?

The first 2 days of the Garden Route are spent in Capetown so you could arrive on day 1 if you want. The operator does recommend to arrive earlier if you want to do any activities in, and, or around Capetown. The trip briefing will take place on day 1 as well

On the last day, usually you'll arrive at Johannesburg around midday and the last night accommodation is included. So you can fly out at any time the next day or if you are short on time a flight in the evening on the last day is also fine.

    • How many people are usually on this trip?

It can depend, but anywhere from 4 up to around 12 per tour.

    • On this tour do you go whale watching?

Yes, we do have the chance to go whale watching on this tour. Usually we do this at Knysna or alternatively at Cape Agulhas. This is a seasonal activity with the main season being June - November for seeing Southern Right whales. Peak calving season is July and August but the whales can still be seen after this through September and October. Humpbacks have a slightly longer season from May to December.
