- WVWilliam· October 23rd, 2019My thoughts on Romania: Romania is an unpolished gem waiting to be discovered by not only one's eyes, but also the mind and a sense of curiosity. The melding of many great empires in history and political tension has resulted in a paradoxical collage that appeals to a true explorer and not the typical tourist. It's not branded with the typical European glitz and glamour, but offers deeper facets of beauty and charm hidden within shambles of its past glory. My thoughts on the tour and the service it provided: Overall, I would say it wasn't the best tour I've signed up for, but was a good tour and we had a good time. From arrival to departure, all of our logistical needs and accommodations were well taken care of. We were provided with a flexible and knowledgable tour guide who was passionate about sharing both facts and his perspective on country's history, culture, and traditions. However, I think there is still a lot of potential for this tour to be even better and more engaging. We covered a lot of different cities and towns within a short period of time, there was often insufficient time to truly see and explore the major sites like Sibiu (we arrived pretty late and left pretty early) and the UNESCO heritage site of Sighisoara. The itinerary may have been too ambitious for the amount of days we had and the distance we needed to cover. Maybe eliminate some of the less significant stops to create more time for the more interesting sites. The second thing was the mode of transportation provided through out the Transylvania leg of the tour. The combination of bumpy and curvy mountainous roads, a vehicle with sub par shocks/suspension and bad air circulation (windows don't open in the back of the vehicle), and a highly reactive and aggressive driver (last minute brake slamming, taking sharp curves super quick, etc..) made the ride very unpleasant on most part. My wife was constantly getting really car sick and dreaded getting on the road every day of the trip. The third thing was the arrangement of meal time and food suggestions. Food is a huge part of experience the local culture, and the tour did provide a meal at Caru' Cu Bere. However, for the rest of the trip, there was never any time arranged for a proper meal during lunch time. We were often told to just pick up some bread and snacks at a local market before departing to the next destination. Food recommendations provided by the tour guide were often sub par and were often tourist traps (I started researching restaurants and where to eat at each stop). The final thing is the format and delivery of information at each site. Our tour guide is highly knowledgable of every aspect of the country and its history, but the delivery can definitely be improved. I personally prefer a more cohesive and comprehensive format that enables me to fully engage with the information that is being shared. But our tour guide's style doesn't always include providing background information about a place before spewing out random and now well constructed facts about some building, site, monument of significance that we pass by. He also likes to walk and talk, while being at the front and facing forward... making it kind of challenging to hear what he has to say when you are at the back of the group. Again, these are just my personal thoughts, and not every member in the group shared the same consent on everything I shared here... except for the food thing.Show moreTrip2ro commented on this reviewHello William, Thank you very much for your feedback. I would like to clarify some aspects noted by you: The itinerary it isn't very ambitious since the average distance per day is 200 km. We have done this tour even with a bus with much more people... - Anna· May 23rd, 2019We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Bucovina Monasteries and Transylvania. We were a small group of travellers and we had very good guides who were very attentive, professional, courteous, and well organized in planning our days. Alex and George offered us an in depth and comprehensive tour of the sites we visited; they went out of their way to add extra visits such as the interior of the Roman Athenaeum and a visit of a family owned winery which a fellow traveller requested while touring. I have no reservations in recommending Trip2Ro to travellers who wish to learn about the Romania's culture and explore the beauty of Romania's landscape.Show moreTrip2ro commented on this reviewHello Anna, Thank you very much for your review.
