To begin with the visa issues, I got the details for it too late to get my visa on time. But Penguin sorted it out so I could have a visa on arrival, it was a bit of a stress around all that. But when all that was sorted out the trip was great, the local guides and crew was perfect. Sometimes some things felt a bit rushed. Maybe it would have ben better if the whole trip was a bit longer so there was some time to relax between the long drives. But in all a good trip and I will probably go with penguin again

So glad I chose this 3-country tour. I enjoyed the cultural experiences, the nature walks, historic places and the shopping. The poor roads and heat made traveling a little uncomfortable but the group was small, the guides caring and everyone seemed to go with the flow with their good nature and good humor.

My second trip with penguin and the pre departure contact and information had definitely declined since the first last year. Quite slow at responding to questions and provide out of date visa information. The tour itself was good, with the local guide being invaluable for different languages. Could do with reducing the length of some road trips, or working out realistic travel times, as road conditions meant we didn't keep to the itinerary schedule at times. Enjoyed the places we visited and a good taste of all three countries

This was a fantastic tour. The sights and sounds were out of this world. Our tour leader, Nesi, was wonderful. Helpful, friendly, even tempered, eager to see that we all had a good time and at the same time keeping us on track to be where we needed to be when we needed to be. We had two guides – Confidence and Alex. Both were very good. Confidence seemed to be more a reactive guide, answering any questions we had. Alex was more proactive in that he pointed out interesting places without being asked. Both knew an enormous amount and spoke very good English. The trip itself was wonderful with some amazing surprises as well and everything on the itinerary, with a couple exceptions, being followed. Since this is an area not frequented by tourists that often some last minute changes were inevitable. Hotels were all OK. Clean and air conditioned rooms. Electricity was spotty at times. Internet access also varied from excellent to very poor. One night the power went out for the whole community and the night was quite hot, but chilly in the morning. For most of the trip the only option for dinner was the hotel. Food varied it its quality (local chickens are quite scrawny) and the waiting times were long – sometime over an hour between ordering and service. Menus also tended to be limited. Nesi helped with this as we ordered food on the road, and it was ready when we arrived. All of this was also true of the lunches. No one went hungry but I would recommend a stash of energy bars as a nice supplement. There is a lot of travel as we covered quite some distance on some less than smooth roads. But we never got stuck as all the drivers knew clearly what they were doing. It helped too that our traveling companions were all friendly and good natured. Just a wonderful trip. So glad we got to go. It will live in our hearts forever.

It's a great tour. It covers a lot of ground (by road - so be prepared for long drives!) and plenty of sightseeing. Very good combination of culture, nature and shopping/markets. The hotels were all decent ranging from a great resort to a basic lodge but on balance very good and most importantly clean. The guides were great and very knowledgeable. My only suggestion would be to manage expectations/ communications in preparation for things such as sun exposure, mosquitoes, long lunch waiting time. Overall, good job Penguin! I will definitely look at travelling again with them.

The tour had highlights and lowlights. West Africa is an extremely difficult place to visit so a tour company has to be VERY prepared. The people on the tour and guides were very friendly however. It was most challenging when things like having too small a vehicle and not getting the correct information from tour company happened. Most of the hotels and restaurants were good to great. I would improve the trip by trying to do less traveling and focus more on sites in the south of each country.
