- Thomas· November 9th, 2023This was a fantastic tour. The sights and sounds were out of this world. Our tour leader, Nesi, was wonderful. Helpful, friendly, even tempered, eager to see that we all had a good time and at the same time keeping us on track to be where we needed to be when we needed to be. We had two guides – Confidence and Alex. Both were very good. Confidence seemed to be more a reactive guide, answering any questions we had. Alex was more proactive in that he pointed out interesting places without being asked. Both knew an enormous amount and spoke very good English. The trip itself was wonderful with some amazing surprises as well and everything on the itinerary, with a couple exceptions, being followed. Since this is an area not frequented by tourists that often some last minute changes were inevitable. Hotels were all OK. Clean and air conditioned rooms. Electricity was spotty at times. Internet access also varied from excellent to very poor. One night the power went out for the whole community and the night was quite hot, but chilly in the morning. For most of the trip the only option for dinner was the hotel. Food varied it its quality (local chickens are quite scrawny) and the waiting times were long – sometime over an hour between ordering and service. Menus also tended to be limited. Nesi helped with this as we ordered food on the road, and it was ready when we arrived. All of this was also true of the lunches. No one went hungry but I would recommend a stash of energy bars as a nice supplement. There is a lot of travel as we covered quite some distance on some less than smooth roads. But we never got stuck as all the drivers knew clearly what they were doing. It helped too that our traveling companions were all friendly and good natured. Just a wonderful trip. So glad we got to go. It will live in our hearts forever.Show morePenguin Travel commented on this reviewHello Thomas, Thank you for your positive feedback. - Tana· April 4th, 2023It's a great tour. It covers a lot of ground (by road - so be prepared for long drives!) and plenty of sightseeing. Very good combination of culture, nature and shopping/markets. The hotels were all decent ranging from a great resort to a basic lodge but on balance very good and most importantly clean. The guides were great and very knowledgeable. My only suggestion would be to manage expectations/ communications in preparation for things such as sun exposure, mosquitoes, long lunch waiting time. Overall, good job Penguin! I will definitely look at travelling again with them.Show morePenguin Travel commented on this reviewHello Kofi Tana, we are happy to hear you enjoyed your trip with Penguin. - ITIvery· March 29th, 2023Nice small group of 12 of us. Confident, from Ghana and Daniela from Bangladesh were excellent tour guides. Rather rugged trip (all traveling close together in a van) which made it even more adventurous. With a small group you were able to see and do more without have to stop for the bathroom every hour which was great. Not recommended for those with mobility issues. I truly felt the culture of the land from the most remote to the elite. I felt safer on the streets in these three countries than most streets in the United States. I was 72 and loved it. Looking forward to returning to Africa on a similar trip.Show morePenguin Travel commented on this reviewThank you for your feedback, Ivery. - Michael· November 17th, 2022The tour had highlights and lowlights. West Africa is an extremely difficult place to visit so a tour company has to be VERY prepared. The people on the tour and guides were very friendly however. It was most challenging when things like having too small a vehicle and not getting the correct information from tour company happened. Most of the hotels and restaurants were good to great. I would improve the trip by trying to do less traveling and focus more on sites in the south of each country.Show moreTrip date: November 2022
- JWJohn· February 24th, 2019An excellent tour led by a truly great man. He did everything to make sure we enjoyed the trip and importantly in this part of the world, safely and securely. Thanks to him, it was a great experience.Trip date: February 2019
