The trip notes additional information was not accurate regarding prices. As this trip has not run very often it is understandable but needs altering before the next trip. Costing - beer ranged from £6 - £9 per bottle. Hiring of snorkelling gear on the Island is very expensive, so it would be cheaper to buy your own before going. Mask and snorkel was 150 per day, fins were 100 per day, in total nearly £20 per day to hire snorkelling gear. Apart from these small points, this is a fantastic trip with a range of activities and fantastic value for money.

Fantastic tour with variety of wildlife and meeting locals. Highlights included snorkelling with stingless jellyfish, meeting locals, seeing how people live in various places, lots of boat trips and of course the orangutans. Take your own snorkelling gear as it was very expensive to hire things on Maratua Island. Beer is very expensive and not available in all places.

Tour notes are inaccurate and it was billed as a wildlife tour, and yes there was some wildlife at the beginning, seeing the orangutan and at the end with the marine life but in between that wildlife was virtually non existent. We spent a lot of time on boat trips looking at local people living in poverty, and whilst this was interesting it does not constitute wildlife.

It's a rare chance to really get off the tourist map (apart from the first 2 days on the river with the orangutans). We went 6 days without seeing one other foreign tourist. The downside is that the tourist infrastructure (hotels, transport, food quality) is not up to what you might expect elsewhere. Travelling by road in Kalimantan is slow going and not particularly pleasant. The hotel on Maratua Island is in a spectacular setting, but service and facilities there are poor - over an hour's wait every time we ordered food. That said, there is no obvious better alternative. Our bus driver for most of the tour was downright dangerous. So if you are OK with all that, there are some wonderful experiences and the chance to get close to nature in some quite unique ways. The Indonesian capital is due to move to Kalimantan in a few years, and after that, the place will be changed completely, so if you want to see it, I would definitely say go now.

Thanks for your review. I was in Kalimantan in 1996 and sounds like nothing has changed! What an adventure it was! One of my greatest experiences was seeing the orangutans
