- Helene· November 17th, 2024Automatic translation available in English. View in EnglishOverall, the trip was interesting, but I would remove a visit to the dirty fishing village in Baan Mod Tanoi and the dugong village where we spent the night afterwards from the program. There was nothing interesting there either. And I would add these days in Sinapur. I can say from my own experience that this trip is not for people over 70 and they need to be in good physical condition to participate in the program. I see the trip more as a transportation from point A to point B.Show moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewThank you for taking the time to share your review Helene. - Basia· March 21st, 2024With great sadness I have to write this review in order to protect other naive and tolerant tourists. The organization and handling of the tour was disturbing, abusive and inappropriate. We have just completed 3 indochina tours with 3 different operators. Interpid failed in every category and ruined our holiday. Everything from safety, transportation, meals, hotels, guides and content was a failure. Greed and luck of common sense prevailed. Safety: disregard for our health and wellbeing: obscure public transportation in covid, bird flue times using buses without Hepa filters, dirty and stinking of old urine. Senior citizens forced to drag laguage via high sidewalks, pt holes, busy streets in the middle of the night and spending almost 3 days traveling on buses!! Nothing to see along highways. Your office misleading and lying about the length of travels. Your (5hrs) is in fact (8hrs, 20 min without any obstacles on the road) Booking bus for ungodly hours and making us sit and wait for the room after very long ,tiring trip on dirty, stinking bus and denying us breakfast, not making arrangements to get us breakfast boxes! Guide lying to operator about us having breakfast!. Arjan did not make any arrangements. Nobody new anything when group showed up. We were told that she was just following Interpid arrangements. How horryfing that you would allow yourself to treat us with such disrespectful abusive way. Hotels: cheap, usually china town, dirty and uncomfortable beds, and pillows. Bayview hotel rooms were horrific with 10 cm of dirt around walls, smelling of vomit and old stinge. The only decent hotel was in Singapore. Meals: virtually nonexistent. The horrible meal Interpid bought at filthy food market in Kuala Lumpur was shameful! Cost you may be 20 dol for 12 people?? Majority was afraid to eat and went hungry, others had gastrointestinal problems after eating in this dirty place. You saved money at the expense of our health! Your guides can not speak proper english to provide information. It was useless to have them, we learned nothing from them so we did not know what we were looking at.You failed to provide this basic tour service as well. Arjan was extremely poor guide. Not helpful, not informed, disorganized. Very stressed.Several times provided us with false information causing stress and discomfort. Not aware what we are to expect at next destinations?! Means you not doing your job that I contracted you to do! As a group we were insulted by your arrogance to think that you will use our hands to clean filthy village in Thailand. Its not about green movement and cleaning beach. Thats not a problem. This village is littered with years of garbage. Thats their way of living, they can sit and drink coffee by piles of garbage, it does not bother them but you think that I paid so much money to go and clean for them? In the high heat and humidity 80 plus seniors cleaning fishing village?? only infantile adult could come up with such insult. You ruined our day and caused great physical and emotional discomfort. We paid for all attractions, and meals out of pocket, all you did was a guide sending text with 10 things to see in a current place. I could do without this text. We got more info from the internet on our own. Bad hotels, no meals, primitive transport, horrible guides: what did We pay you for? You ruined our experience, you insulted us and you endangered our health and wellbeing. The group discussed these issues at the end of tour and we all share these concerns. I know couple of my friends have already written to you but you have dishonorably disregarded the problems. We, my husband and I, demand refund of at least 50% of 7190.00 paid as you failed to provide even basic services. We hold TourRadar responsible for this situation as we purchased this tour through them. - MKMarek· February 22nd, 2024I would not recommend this trip to anyone. Yes, we knew before we purchased the tour, from Itinerary, that for 15 days duration of this tour, there will be only 10 breakfasts, 3 lunches and no dinner served, but we did not know that, another Intrepid "invention" called, "public bus" transportation (3x) will be in practice very long and there will be very hard to find a place to eat, especially breakfast next day!!! In fact, your organization included 5 full days with no meals!!! It was 2 days in Bangkok and one day in Khao Sok, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka. In Kuala Lumpur for example we had to wander 45 minutes thru the neighborhood of our hotel in order to find a decent place to have a breakfast. In another day, from Melaka to Singapore, our guide told us, the night before, that because of very early schedule for the public bus we have to skip our breakfast which was awaiting at the hotel next morning. After our protest our guide "arranged" early breakfast but the service room was not ready with cold coffee and the toaster oven not working! All three "public bus" transportation, in practice, were very long and exhaustive, due to traffic or long time spent on border crossing, and frustrating to us due to a lack of even basic food not available on food stands on the route. In addition, the one day trip to Baan Mod Tanoy village turned to be another small disaster. The village huts were literally sitting in the middle of huge garbage dump where we supposed to clean the beach …We did not take any cleaning action there for obvious reasons. Our guide seamed to be quite often frustrated with our basic, in reality, demands regarding meals and, paid by Intrepid, afternoon activities which quite often did not exist! The most common guide's message to us could be freely translated, in short, as: "it is what it is and be happy with what you have". In overall, I doubt I will go with, or suggest to my friends to book a trip with, Intrepid in any time soon!!!Show moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewHi Marek, thank you for your detailed feedback. - JPJoanna· February 21st, 2024The trip has a good itinerary in Thailand but the part in Malaysia has very bad logistics. Hotels in Thailand were adequate, except one in Ao Nang (Ibis, rather dirty with very poorly designed rooms). Visit to the Baan Mod Tanoy village on the last day in Thailand was something that needs to change. Walk thru the village was maybe educational but village itself was littered with garbage everywhere – in front of houses and both side of the streets. By the look of discarded pop cans, candy and chips wrappers it wasn’t a poor village. We were told we have to participate in program (apparently going for three years) where tourists walk on a beach and pick up garbage. It was noon, 34C and one of us was 83 years old. We refused, suggesting that based on the garbage littering the village the program obviously doesn’t work. As for Malaysia – we visited three cities and due to the fact that we drove from one city to the other on a highway with palm tree forests on both sides we really didn’t see much of the countryside. We were transported by public transport and that was very unpleasant and time wasting. The worst was trip from Penang to Kuala Lumpur that took from 8 am (starting from hotel with so horrible breakfast that it wasn’t included, and local bars didn’t open until 8 am (??) to 4:45 pm with no break for lunch. It was: van to transit station, bus with one bathroom break, van to the hotel. We wasted the whole day with nothing but palm trees to see. Why didn’t we fly?? The day before last we left our hotel at 6:30 am (no chance for breakfast, after complaining we got some cold coffee and toast). Again transferring – van, public bus, and this time Grab/Uber in Singapore that originally were going to order and pay for ourselves! The guide eventually gave us Singapore dollars and called taxis, but it took a long time to sort out. This should be organized better. We were mostly older group that needs to take medication in the morning with food and those few days in Malaysia made it very difficult. Also transferring our luggage in and out of van/bus/van was hard for some. Not to mention that at time of post Covid and bird flu in Asia putting us three times on public bus was not very safe. I do not recommend this trip, itinerary is deceiving. Before this trip we took one thru Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand with GAdventures and we didn’t have those kind of problems with transportation and meals.Show moreIntrepid Travel commented on this reviewHi Joanna, thank you for your detailed feedback, We are sorry to know of your negative experience and we are happy to liaise with our local teams to discuss your time on tour.
