- CCannes· May 20th, 2023This 'cruise' was easily the low point of our honeymoon vacation, and perhaps the worst vacation I've ever experienced. While the weather was not ideal for sailing, we only got to see one island in our itinerary, the other two days we were docked in an ugly, industrial port called Ploce. The cruise manager encouraged everyone to race to the sundeck to view this port, and it was quite difficult to conceal our disappointment. While some decided to disembark and explore the town (and reported nothing worth seeing), my newlywed husband and I retreated to our cabin for a good cry. No other cruise company chose to dock here. This was not what we signed up for. Little accommodations were made to explore this beautiful country. We were bussed to an oyster port and given 3 oysters and about an hour to walk the 'third longest wall' in the world. There was one stop asking the way for us to take pictures of a modern bridge. Apparently, the Croatians are very proud of this bridge, which circumvents the Bosnian border, but none of the passengers were interested in this bit of history or economic development. The following day we were bussed to Dubrovnik. What a relief it was to depart. We were sold on a bespoke itinerary, with few touristy attractions, and what we experienced was quite the opposite. The entire crew only talked about how strange the weather was and all of the activities we were missing out on. The jacuzzi was never in operation, even while we were moored. My husband, a first- time cruiser, experienced seasickness during a rough patch in the journey. Normally, a crew offers motion-sickness medication, but instead he was chastised for drinking too much (he had just started his second beer and only chose to have it out of boredom and noticing other passengers doing the same), and his drink was taken away. While the crew was lovely, and we were technically on a boat, I can only think back on this experience with heartache. I am embarrassed to recount any part of this trip to friends and family.Show moreTrip date: May 2023
