Just came back from an amazing trip to Sri Lanka with Showlanka Tours. Our trip was tailormade, and the office team were very responsive & cooperative to organize a tailormade trip to suit our preferences. Our experience got even better when we arrived in Sri Lanka and met our driver Manju. Manju made sure we had the best experience throughout our visit to Sri Lanka. He was was very professional, friendly and informative. He was also very flexible, usually leaving it up to us to decide departure times, activities, etc. Our vehicle was comfortable & air-conditioned, and the hotels chosen were up to standard. We would definitely choose to travel with Showlanka again... and we would request that Manju be our driver!

First of all this was a great journey with many unforgettable memories. It was well planned and we felt safe. We were very lucky with our guide/driver Mr. Ruwan. He is a very kind and happy person. Without him our journey would have been only half so good. But you should be aware that despite Sri Lanka is a relative cheap country for travelers from the western hemisphere there is a big differentiation between local and foreign people. So you can eat very cheap in local restaurants but in the tourist regions it is much more expensive. And above all in the big sightseeing spots (government run) like the lions rock or Polonnaruwa and the jeep safari in Yala national park you have to pay an extraordinary entrance fee around 40 USD per person. In summary it wasn’t a journey as cheap as we expected. Despite the costs the most trips are worth the money, and we recommend the most. The hotels in summary were good. They are in no way comparable to European standards. But for the Sri Lankan standard the hotels were good. Especially the Grovenor hotel in Nuwara Eliya (a old colonial styled bungalow) and the fresh wave hotel (hotel own beach!). There a two kind of people in Sri Lanka: the one who wants only money at any cost from you and the other one who are very kind and will do everything for you out of pure hospitality. Fortunately you will meet the second kind more often. Following some tips we would been glad to know before the journey: - at the second day our guide suggested an additionally trip to an elefant safari in Anuradhapura. Do this! It was the most magical feeling to see a group of elefants grazing only a few meters in front of you. - In Sri Lanka you are supposed to give tip to everyone. Don’t let you get pushed to give to much money (like we did: we were pushed to give 2000 Rupies. This is very much money for the lokal people!). 100-500 Rupies are good enough unless you want to give more - At the last day we did the Madu river tour (River safari). The tour per se was good, not great. You will drive with a speed boat around 30-40 min. They charged 50 USD for 2 persons and at each included station like the fishfarm were employees which wanted more and more money. So this trip was not great and much to expensive for what you get. We wouldn’t recommend to do it! - Mail your passport numbers at least 1 month before departure to tourradar/showlanka tours, so that they can purchase the train tickets in Ella - Always have enough cash at hand, many shops and restaurants and also many sightseeing tours don’t accept card.

What our customers ask about this tour

The content in our FAQ section is subject to change.
    • Who will pick up the travelers from the airport arrival terminal?

Warmly welcome by our Airport representative on arrival terminal in the airport & He will be introducing your dedicated chauffeur/Guide for the whole tour,& they will be hanging a board written with your name for recognition.

    • If my flight gets delayed, how do I catch my taxi?

We will take appropriate measures so that you are not inconvenienced in case by sending a Whatsapp message to 0094779144664 urgently.

    • If my travel dates are exceeded, is my airport transfer still free?

The airport transfer is your final destination at the time of schedule and if you choose a different date for which you will not arrive the same date at the airport due to any event, an additional fee will be charged.

    • If my travel dates are exceeded, how much is the cost per day for my accommodation?

Charges for additional accommodation will depend on the hotel categories you wish to stay in. We will work to provide the relevant facilities upon your request.

    • How do I change my itinerary during my journey?

You cannot change the itinerary that you have already agreed upon. But, you can change your pre chosen sightseeings in the itinerary according to your preferences. Furthermore, if you wish to stay at the hotel premises reserved for you in destination B instead of staying at the hotel premises reserved for you in destination "A", the hotel charges at destination "A " will not be refunded to you.

    • What are the best network connections in Sri Lanka covering all locations ?

To name a few of the network providers in Sri Lanka, Dialog, Mobitel, Airtel and Hutch are well known. Sri Lanka's most popular and largest network providing partner is dialog. But what is more appropriate for a traveller, as of the best coverage is Hutch. On arrival, travellers can buy sim cards from the counters in the airport according to their preference.

    • How much does food cost and is it too spicy?

From a standard restaurant, lunch/dinner buffet or an ala carte can be bought for around 10$-12$. Rice along with Sri Lankan cuisines are available in plenty of shops much cheaper than standard restaurants but those are too spicy.

    • Can I pay foreign currency for archaeological sites and national parks entrances?

Major archaeological sites such as Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura accept foreign currency and all national parks only accept Sri Lankan currency. So you can avoid inconveniences by having both currencies with you.

    • What is the best place to change my foreign currency?

Mainly you can change from any bank at the airport arrival terminal and authorized agencies in major cities.

    • Can I use my credit or debit cards for local sites?

It is very difficult. Card payments cannot be made at any local sites controlled by the government agencies. For example, Elephant Orphanage/National parks, Sigiriya fortress etc. Card payments can only be made at certain stations for tourism activities promoted by private agencies. The best way is keeping cash on hand.
