This is great news for them and consumers. Unfortunately, while many of these small companies look...

- DBDougall· December 8th, 2023Want adventure? Imagine trekking in the shadows of the world’s highest mountains. Picture following winding, mystical paths down into rugged valleys then swaying over long swing bridges as turbulent rivers cascade far below. Envisage a chopper ride over the Nepalese Everest Base Camp and the Everest approaches. This is the epic adventure No Roads is offering and I am just home from the time of my life. The beginning of the venture commenced when we landed at Tribhuvan International airport in the large Nepalese city of Kathmandu. Here I saw no footpaths, just a chaotic traffic of people, cars and motor bikes that incredibly managed to duck and weave with no apparent effort or consequence. We enjoyed a rest day of Newarian coffee and their delicious bakery goodies. Bright and early the next day we flew to Lukla. Lukla is reportedly the shortest and most dangerous airport in the world but we arrived safe and sound and enjoyed an hour or so exploring before we met our guides and porters. These guys are the nicest, friendliest people you are likely to meet and they cheerfully carried all our gear. The next day was the start of the trekking and we travelled the 9 kms to Phakding sitting at 2610m. Here we were treated to very good food and a good night’s sleep. The next day’s trekking was a long hike to Namchang Bazar sitting at 3440m. The altitude demanded slowly, slowly but, providing I remembered this, I enjoyed the challenge the up and down and the swing bridges presented. It was the best sense of accomplished once finished. The surrounding mountains and deep valleys resulted in a background that needed to be seen to be believed. Two days were spent acclimatising in Namchang Bazar. We would trek up to small villages and then come back down to sleep, we also enjoyed the best massage. I felt captured by the ambiance and it made me wonder at my significance against the majesty of the mountains staring down at me. Our next destination was The Everest View Hotel located in the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park sitting at3880m and it was here we finally saw Mount Everest. What a sight! There was also an uninterrupted view of Everest and Mount Lhotse out my bedroom window and I could watch the clouds of Everest snow being swept off the top by the 2 to 300 kph winds. The hotel surrounds captured the adventurous spirit of the Himalayas. There is mystery and splendor in the winding paths that lead you amongst the evergreen fir trees and under the reds of the rhododendron forests. We spent 3 days at the hotel, trekking and exploring, also climbing up to various local villages. Certainly, one of my most satisfying achievements was summiting a local peak, the encouragement and support of the No Roads team was ever-present and most welcome. Our last day was a grand event. We were collected by a large black chopper and taken on a breath-taking sight-seeing tour over the Everest Base Camp and the mountain approaches and then back to Kathmandu. The flight was incredible, amazing vistas along with a wonderful commentary from the pilot. My ten days hiking and exploring with No Roads was the best trip of my life. Initially Everest Base Camp was just another tick of the bucket list but as I trekked it became much more and I can only recommend it, just call No Roads. It should be noted to say Nepalese chilly is cold is an understatement, my heavy-duty puffer jacket became my best friend.Show moreNo Roads Expeditions commented on this reviewWow, thank you so much Dougall. - Sophie· December 6th, 2023The trip of a lifetime! As a family of four we don't always want the same sort of holiday - This trip provided the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, so everybody was happy. The accommodation, the walking, the views, the food and of course our wonderful guide meant we all came home with enormous smiles on our faces. We loved every second and anyone that thinks that taking on a hike in the Himalayas to Mt Everest would be too much - you can do it, and you absolutely should. This trip that No Roads has put together is lifechanging and means you get to do something special, whilst also walking away feeling like you have been on a holiday.Show moreNo Roads Expeditions commented on this reviewThank you so much Sophie for these kind words. This is certainly up there as one of the best attainable hikes that will place people in an iconic area of the planet, Everest. Thanks again.Trip date: December 2023
