Had a great experience on this tour! Guide & Driver: Ali was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Her patience and positive attitude didn't falter. Could not have asked for a better guide. She was always so approachable and helpful and really went over and above to make sure we had a great experience. Her maturity and leadership were also amazing in handling a group with a lot of bit personalities. Patrick our driver was also outstanding. Very helpful and made it a priority to always look out for our safety which was invaluable. His knowledge of some pretty precarious roads was beyond impressive and he truely was a gentleman to all of us on the tour. The mix of a Western guide and local driver was also great and really helped to cover all bases. Emily (trainee) had a great attitude and was generally pretty approachable. However there were a few instances where it felt as though she was a part of the tour group as opposed to a leader (for example, at times talking negatively about others on the tour) and also some times where leadership was required (e.g. roof of bus beginning to break), where she was preoccupied with socialising with the group as opposed to prioritising this potential hazard. However, totally appreciate that this was her first tour and it is a very steep learning curve, just think a little more time and experience may be required. :) General structure: I thought this tour was run really well! It is most definitely an overland tour so you need to be prepared for camping, going with the flow and working as a team. I have done other overland tours of similar style (with G adventures) and have to say, the Absolute Africa tour was definitely comparable, if not better (particularly as the price of Absolute Africa is a lot better than some of the other companies - definitely value for money). Jobs were shared evenly around camp, tents were really good quality and sleeping matts very comfortable. The facilities at the camp site were definitely better than I expected (most were well maintained with adequate bathroom facilities). The food on the tour was also a lot better than I though! Had some really delicious meals (to the point where I was asking for recipes...). The only complaint would be that some of the optional activities mentioned in the pre departure information were not mentioned at all on the tour, so a little communication around these would be great (e.g. golden monkey trek, grave visit etc).

What our customers ask about this tour

The content in our FAQ section is subject to change.
    • If I am dropped off at the last stop in Tanzania, how do I get to Zanzibar?

There are several ways to get to Zanzibar from Arusha, you can take a taxi and a ferry or take a flight. We can definitely check with the tour operator if they have any private means of transportation to get you to Zanzibar.

    • When is the best time to view the migration?

The prime time to visit the Serengeti in Tanzania is usually regarded as being from late November through to March when the big herds of wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelle and zebra head on to the southern plains of the Serengeti.

To get the best viewing on the other hand in Kenya's Masai Mara July through to September are usually regarded as the best months.

    • How much will this tour really cost me?

The costs to consider when travelling overland are:

      Safari price
      Optional excursions
      Personal spending money
      Visas

We are always very transparent about what a tour will cost and are happy to go through personal, tailored budgets to give you a very realistic idea of what you will spend on your tour - whether you are an adrenaline junkie, souvenir-shopaholic or travelling on a shoestring…
