- Eead· June 27th, 2017Had a great experience on this tour! Guide & Driver: Ali was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Her patience and positive attitude didn't falter. Could not have asked for a better guide. She was always so approachable and helpful and really went over and above to make sure we had a great experience. Her maturity and leadership were also amazing in handling a group with a lot of bit personalities. Patrick our driver was also outstanding. Very helpful and made it a priority to always look out for our safety which was invaluable. His knowledge of some pretty precarious roads was beyond impressive and he truely was a gentleman to all of us on the tour. The mix of a Western guide and local driver was also great and really helped to cover all bases. Emily (trainee) had a great attitude and was generally pretty approachable. However there were a few instances where it felt as though she was a part of the tour group as opposed to a leader (for example, at times talking negatively about others on the tour) and also some times where leadership was required (e.g. roof of bus beginning to break), where she was preoccupied with socialising with the group as opposed to prioritising this potential hazard. However, totally appreciate that this was her first tour and it is a very steep learning curve, just think a little more time and experience may be required. :) General structure: I thought this tour was run really well! It is most definitely an overland tour so you need to be prepared for camping, going with the flow and working as a team. I have done other overland tours of similar style (with G adventures) and have to say, the Absolute Africa tour was definitely comparable, if not better (particularly as the price of Absolute Africa is a lot better than some of the other companies - definitely value for money). Jobs were shared evenly around camp, tents were really good quality and sleeping matts very comfortable. The facilities at the camp site were definitely better than I expected (most were well maintained with adequate bathroom facilities). The food on the tour was also a lot better than I though! Had some really delicious meals (to the point where I was asking for recipes...). The only complaint would be that some of the optional activities mentioned in the pre departure information were not mentioned at all on the tour, so a little communication around these would be great (e.g. golden monkey trek, grave visit etc).Show moreAbsolute Africa commented on this reviewThank you for leaving a review of your tour - we are really happy to hear you had a great time and were pleasantly surprised by the facilities and food!
