- MDMax· July 26th, 2023I am single and booked a 9 day gold package private tour of Cairo which included which included the Pyramids and Egyptian Museum. This was part of a 9 day trip. I have no complaints of the part I was on the 3 day Nile cruise. The Cairo leg of the trip was a disaster. I had the Hilton on my itinerary as part of the gold package and I booked this package months in advance. However when I landed I was told that the Hilton was not available and I was put in hotel Le Riad in Old Cairo which is a very noisy part and not recommended. What I received when I landed in Cairo was completely different from what I had booked with Nouran the agent I booked the tour with. My handler in Cairo Ahmed Amin kept saying that the Hilton was booked and did not offer any refunds. They also dropped me off for my final night at La Passage hotel which was a terrible hotel not on my itinerary. I cannot recommend Memphis Tours after this experience.Show moreTrip date: March 2023
- EEstela· August 6th, 2019Awesome experience with Memphis Tours. They were attentive and knowledgeable. Small issues that we encounter were corrected. All our tour guides were very knowledgeable and ready to provide as much information as feasible. Attentive and courteous. Land transportation commendable! Special recognition goes to our tour manager, Reem, a very young lady, competent professional, super friendly, organized, smart and willing to make each visitor stay very pleasant! Her services goes beyond her duties. Thank you, Reem, you make us happy!Show moreMemphis Tours Egypt commented on this reviewDear Esteemed Guest, Thank you so much for sharing your views and experience with Memphis Tours. - Robbie· June 2nd, 2019Our guide Sam was amazing in Cairo, and things went quite smoothly with transportation and pickups each morning. The days weren’t packed (maybe could have been a bit longer), and our guide in Luxor wasn’t quite as good but still very knowledgeable.Memphis Tours Egypt commented on this reviewDear Esteemed Guest, Thank you so much for sharing your views and experience with Memphis Tours. - JJonS· January 27th, 2019Though we are seasoned travelers, Memphis tours was the first tour we ever booked. It will be our last. Thinking it would be much easier to have someone else take over the details of planning, as well as transportation and logistics in what seemed like it difficult country in which to travel, we were happy to see the schedule which they provided for us. Amir was very responsive in our planning and said yes to most everything, but it seems that many things were said just to placate us and did not happen. Things we were told were not always done, and it was mainly through being on top of everyone and double checking everything that we were able to get most of what we wanted, though there were many things we didn’t get or want. The flights onto which we were booked left at the most inconvenient times, such as a 5:30 AM flight to Jordan or a 1:45 AM flight home. When they said they would check us in and get us seats together, they didn’t, so on several of our flights we could not sit together. The cruise onto which they booked us was clearly the cheapest one, as we often had to walk though much nicer cruise boats to get to ours, moored on the other side. The extra excursion we booked to Abu Simbel was supposed to leave at 5 AM, and at 11 PM the night before they changed it to 4 AM and wouldn’t refund any of the excursions the rest of the tour saw that day, even though we paid extra to go to Abu Simbel. On the day we arrived in Jordan at 9:30 in the morning, there was nothing else scheduled for the whole day, and it was only because we arraigned with the driver to take us places that the day didn’t become a total waste. But the absolute last straw was the unscheduled stops at cheesy overpriced touristy boutiques they made us go to during the group tours on the cruise. We were having a wonderful time at the Valley of the Kings when we were told it had to be cut short so we could visit an alabaster ‘workshop’ which wasn’t on the itinerary. This entailed a touristy 3 minute ‘demonstration’ on how alabaster was carved, followed by more than an hour of selling us cheap looking low grade alabaster, all while the tour company takes a hefty commission and we are left not being able to visit the tombs of the Valley of the Kings we were hoping to see. This was a once in a lifetime trip and we don’t know if we will ever be able to go back to Egypt, and because of Memphis Tours we spent more time in a rip-off ‘perfume factory’ than at the actual sight on the itinerary, and the quality of the perfume was so laughable that the scent was gone from your skin within 5 minutes. Had these trips to the alabaster workshop, the perfume factory, the papyrus workshop or the touristy gift stores been on the itinerary, we wouldn’t have been so upset, for we would have been able to make an informed decision about our travel plans (and probably wouldn’t have booked on Memphis Tours if we knew about them). This utter lack of transparency makes us believe that the company was far more concerned with their commissions than giving us an amazing experience. Clearly the best part of the experience were the independent contractors they hired to take us around (guides and drivers especially Sayed Wassel in Cairo), but as for the tour company itself, we would never use them again.Show moreMemphis Tours Egypt commented on this reviewDear Esteemed Guest, Thank you for taking the time in reviewing your experience with Memphis Tours. - SSeasonedTravelers· January 22nd, 2019The most poorly organized tour! Very disappointing. Our guide was extremely unprofessional and had a terrible attitude. It was a tour from HELL. We were scheduled for a morning tour before our 2pm flight that same day. The scheduled pick-up time was at 4:15 am from the Aswan cruise, the guide, Mahna, didn't show up till 4:45 am. It was supposed to be a 3 hour drive to the temple. It turned into 3.5 hours because our driver was extremely slow – all the other buses and cars kept passing our vehicle. Our guide, Mahna, was nonplussed about being late for the pick-up and fought with us about what time we had to return from the tour site back to the airport for our flight in Aswan. She claimed that our flight was originally scheduled at 2:30 pm instead of 2 pm. Even when one of us showed her our physical boarding pass, she said that the physical evidence must be wrong and what her tour office told her over the phone is right. Several tour members got on their cellphones and called the airline to verify that our flight was indeed at 2pm. When we relayed this evidence to Mahna, she still did not believe us. She said “Egypt Air is always late. You don’t need to be at the airport on time”. I believe she was trying to make up for the time lost because she was late picking us up and because the driver was so slow. When we challenged her and asked her if we missed our flight as a result of believing her claim that Egypt Air is always late, would she be responsible for booking us a new ticket? Mahna said, “That is not my problem. I am not responsible” Can you imagine how furious we were to hear this response? Here she is telling our group that our flight is always late, so we don't need to be at the airport on time. But she is not taking any responsibility for her words. She is only trying to cover up her fault of being late for pick up and cutting into our tour time. As I mentioned before, our bus driver was very slow. We saw all the other tour buses and cars pass us. As a result, we were not allowed to stop at any rest areas to use the toilets. By the time we arrived the temple entrance, our group had to use the toilets badly. This cut into the limited time we had left to see the site. When we booked this tour, we were promised 2 hours to visit the site. BUT because our guide, Mahna, was 30 minutes late and the bus driver was very slow, we were forced to spend ONLY 30 mins at the tour site! After we raced to the toilets, it still took 10 mins to walk to the main temple attraction. Obviously, our group was extremely upset that our 2 hour site time was cut to 30 minutes. I cannot imagine anyone booking a tour that lasts only 30 mins and tolerate the travel time of 6-7 hours bus roundtrip. Had we known that was the way it turned out, none of the tour members would have agree to go on to this trip. Most problematic was our tour guide, Mahna. She argumentative, intolerant and all of our concerns fell on her deaf ears. I cannot believe that a tour guide would argue with you about your flight departure time when you show her your physical boarding pass and phone confirmation from your airline (One of the member actually called Egypt Air to confirm that our flight was leaving on time that day). Making a blanket statement that “Egypt Air is always late” is an unacceptable answer. Mahna was trying to cover her tracks. It was without a doubt, her fault that our site tour time was cut short from 2hours to 30 minutes. She was late picking us up and her driver was extremely slow. Rather than own up to her error. She tried to cover her mistake by attempting to drop us off at the airport past our departure time. As strongly as we argued and as much evidence as we presented (boarding pass, calling Egypt air, etc.) that we needed to be at the airport on time, she would not listen. I have never been on such an unprofessional tour where your guide is fighting against you. I do not recommend Memphis Tours and would highly caution anyone from using them.Show moreMemphis Tours Egypt commented on this reviewDear Esteemed Guest, Thank you for taking the time in reviewing your experience with Memphis Tours. - EJErich· March 12th, 2018Memo Made Memphis Tours Magnificent Memo, our tour leader, led our group (n = 33) for 10 days from Cairo to Aswan via Luzor, on a fun and fact filled journey along the Nile River in Egypt. Between our American tour leaders, Tammy and Mike Scheuer of Capital Area Travel Leaders we enjoyed many (n = 18) ticketed visits to temples, monasteries and more as well as a hot air ballon ride over the Valley of KIngs, a carriage ride to the Temple of Horus in Edfu, and camel ride to the St Simeon monastery ruins in Aswan. The 3 day NIle River cruise and resort hotels in Giza and Elephantine Island were first rate and luxurious accommodations. Thank you for this excellent partnership with Memphis tours. P.S. Our tour manager Fadi was always on point with everything waiting for us including great drivers and knowledgeable site guides. Security is well taken care of with absolutely no concerns.
