Simran· November 8th, 2024Our family of four recently completed an 11-day tour of Italy with Wingbuddy Travel Operators / Fantasia by Carrani tours, and while their logistics of organising pick up and drop overall for the group was quite well timed, we were dissatisfied with the experience overall. 1. Inadequate Vegetarian Food Options: Despite informing the operators well in advance about our dietary preferences, the availability of vegetarian food options was severely limited and purely an after thought, instead of being well planned. For example: the only veg options we did get at breakfasts were cereals, 1 kind of bread and some fruits and other pre-fixed meals basic pasta. This however improved in the second half of the tour, starting with Montepulciano and the last hotel in Sorrento (Michelangelo) had more options. 2. Lack of Key Inclusions: While most key towns did have guided tours, in some of them these tours were limited to roaming around on the outside instead of entering - Florence and Venice namely, wherein the entry fee for those top priority historic places were over and above if we wanted to go in. For a tour that boasts of doing Italy north to south, covering some of these places from inside would have felt cost effective. Some of the places had optional tours available for additional money which we realised could have easily been included as part of the main tour. Also while they did tell us about each hotel asking for a city tax, those amounts could also have been accommodated in the large sum of money we did pay per person without too many entry fees of historic places included. By and large, we felt for the money we paid, a lot of the smaller things could and should have been a part of the price already paid. 3. Transportation: In every key city, we were dropped off at the city centre and expected to find our way back to the hotel on our own - Rome, Florence, Venice. This crucial detail was not mentioned in any of the pre-tour information. While we understand the objective was to give people free time and have them come back whenever they were ready, a good idea here would have been to organise 1 common pick up time for those who would have managed to plan their leisure time and preferred to be dropped back. 4. Cancellation of Naples Tour: The Naples tour was cancelled at the last minute without any prior notification or compensation. Only when we brought it up to the tour guide and the emergency WhatsApp number was it acknowledged, but that too with a very evasive response. After seeking compensation for skipping something we had paid for, the best they even thought of offering was a beverage in its place. The customer support for this was extremely poor and failed to address our concerns effectively. 5. Different rooms in the same hotel: The 4 of us were of course put up in 2 rooms, however in some hotels the size and facilities in both the rooms were quite different from one another, for example coffee maker & electric kettles were there in one room and not in the other in the same hotel, size of shower areas etc. Again, the last hotel in Sorrento was much better in this aspect too. We chose Wingbuddy Travel Operators / Fantasia by Carrani expecting a smooth and enjoyable experience, but what we encountered wasn’t all that great. We advise future travelers to explore other options if they are looking for a better defined traveling experience, value for money with all key inclusions in place & especially those who are vegetarians.
