Places we visited were spectacular! Some of the tour guides were very good and others were only fair. I was expecting to have the same tour guide and group of people throughout the tour and that was not the case.

Nobody picked us up at the airport. We spent 3 hours at the airport trying to contact the organizer. The telephone number given was non-existent. Calls to the first two hotels revealed that our bookings had been canceled in Feb. 24. It was only by chance and the absolute helpfulness of 5 Thais that a solution was finally found for us. The company Destination Service Thailand apparently no longer exists and was probably taken over by TUI. We were then able to go on our round trip, as it seems that drivers, 2 guides and the hotels we had been promised were booked in a hurry. Unfortunately, there is no program for Bangkok on this tour. Why not? Bangkok is the absolute highlight of this trip.

Whilst the hotels themselves were excellent as far as accommodation and breakfast were concerned (except for the hotel at sukhumthai where eggs were obviously cooked very early in the morning and were cold at 7-00 am .Maybe we were spoilt at other hotels in that a chef was provided to cook eggs as one liked along with omlettes and other asian delicacies on the spot ) Further the hotel at Chaing Ria was in a reasonable location considering we were there for 2 days and no early rises .As such time was available to explore the city. Whilst the Holiday Inn at Chaing Mia was probably the best of all the hotels, its location was terrible in that it was about an hours walk to the night market. The hotel at Sukhumthai was 4 kilometres from the old town and 12 kilometres from the new town.Terrible Having said the above and considering the locations of the hotels it would have been helpful to have the tour guide advise how to get to the bustling townships ie by taxi or tut tut and the cost as your tours do not allow for a brief tour and advice as to the attractions in the various townships .Yes we see allthe temples and other tourist attractions however we do not see much of the local people. Finally on the last two days of the tour we were left to our own devices in chinatown Bangkok. It would have been nice for the tour guide to have given us a brief tour of Bangkok city and explained the best method of transport ie taxi or tut tut and even an explanation of how to use the rail system Brian Nichols

The guide in the first part of tour in Chiang rai and chiang mai was not up to the mark. This tour includes too many visits to temples.Could iclude crossing river to Laos while at Golden Triangle.

I wasn't keen on the first part of the ten day tour as we had visited chiang rai, chiangmai and more on a private tour just three years before. However we were not allowed a choice to opt out of it and just do a six day instead. So we had to cancel almost all of the sightseeing. Fortunately we were the only two booked and could replace with three others not on the itinerary. There second part was interesting and we enjoyed the two heritage sites and War museum depicting the building of the railway. Accommodation was good and many of the hotels had beautiful surroundings and nice breakfasts. The van we travelled in was good for two but won't be as comfortable for more as there was not much of legroom.

    1. Grand tour had 2 parts: 1. Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai and 2. Chiang Mai to Bangkok with a different guide and a driver for each part. 2. The guide for the first part had limited English and knowledge of the sights although he would point out that we were in the countryside or the animal seen was a cow. Had we not known, we would have been impressed. Had we not been informed umpteen times, we would be very dense. Overall, he was pleasant enough as was the driver. He made sure we were not lost in the temple crowds. He also took us to the newly opened Blue Temple as we had no wish to see the White Temple again. The Blue is truly elegant but crowded, a far cry from the White of horror sculptures and horror tourists. 3. The guide for the second part would only state what a temple was in few words. He had to pressed for further info. He would also look into the distance when he did not wish to answer. 4. This grand tour has temples galore until Sukhothai and Ayutthaya. Temples littered with donation boxes and trees every few steps. Donation for monks' welfare, animals, upkeep...but we didn't see boxes for hospitals, orphanages. 5. Sukhothai and Ayutthaya are magnificent ruins. We had read up and the booklet picked up the hotels were useful. 5. Hotels were in the 3 to 4 stars range with good breakfasts. One hotel @ Krungsi river hotel ran out of hot water for showers. 6. Lunch on the way was tourist fare, the menu oft-repeated across the route. 7. Visiting several temples everyday with no info about the culture, history and social significance can be tedious with the long drives in-between. If some scenic sights - waterfalls, caves, landforms - were included as a break, the too many temples would be more appreciated. 8. You would have to read up to get more out this tour - the guides are only there to make sure you are not lost in the crowds.
